An old-school pony fan reacts to the new show

Through a random search I ended up finding this page: http://mlplexicon.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=mlpfis&action=display&thread=363. I thought it was a pretty interesting read, hearing the reactions to the first shots of the show before it came out. I had to laugh at her surprise at seeing brown and grey ponies XD I never took any interest in the original MLP so I never even considered that that would be weird. Also, were there no boy ponies at all in the old series?

Looking at the screenshots I noticed all kinds of little things I never saw before too, like the cloud trees and that cool mural in Celestia's throne room.

In the second series, there were three main boy ponies. In the first series, there was...uh....there was....the human boy? I can't recall any boy ponies, but there had to be some....

There were the big brothers in G1. They weren't main characters, though.

And there was exactly one brown pony (T.J., Megan's normal pony that she abandoned to go frolic with the rainbow-hairs) and one grey pony (snuzzle, but she had pink hair so that barely counts) in the old series.

Also, this chart (not sure who made it) lists all the connections to the various series for the main cast:

I haven't been into the old MLP stuff in a few years, but when I first got into FiM, I also totally flipped out at Applejack and Spike looking like they did in G1. Also, the furry hooves on the male ponies make them look just like the Big Brothers. It weirded me out a little that Rainbow "Daaaahling" Dash had become a tomboy (and a pegasus), but I can't imagine her any other way now. And, let's face it, the G3 cartoons sucked. Even compared to the G1 stuff, FiM is definitely the best animated series MLP has ever had. It makes up for the big disappointment that the G4 toy line is. (It seems to me like it's just a million different versions of the same few ponies. It's annoying.)
