  1. It wasn't difficult for Sombra to tell that Shadow actually seemed to be seriously considering his jest. It should've been a little surprising, but if he was to be honest with himself, it probably would serve as a good enough plan next to destroying a few frost wolves to scare off the pack. They'd have to deal with a very angry uncle, but he wasn't concerned about the feelings of Shadow's family, or other ponies' for that matter. The king responded with a grunt and took a few casual steps towards the town, now that the field was no longer keeping him trapped. He'd requested it be removed, rather than trying to tear it apart himself; he wasn't strong enough yet, and he didn't want to make it apparent. All he'd told Shadow, and all the pony had to know, was that he needed to regain his strength. That was it. His lips parted to ask a question, about whether Shadow Scribe could read his thoughts and immediately shut his mouth. It probably made sense that he'd think Sombra wanted to keep his cape, rather than discard it. Accepting the logic, Sombra turned his attention to the armor Shadow had summoned. The umbrum quietly studied the metal and the way it was made. It looked like it would fit him, with a few small adjustments to accommodate his height; he was thinking along the same lines without knowing it. "This will be extremely useful, especially when we go north. My old armor was destroyed, unfortunately. I only have an adequate enough knowledge of metalworking, so what I couldn't do, I made up for with magic." It'd explain why his armor had been shattered, the same way he had, by the Crystal Heart. "I will accept your gift. It pleases me, as much as something can please me. Now, send it to your house. I may end up attracting as much attention, if not more, if I walked the streets of this idyllic little town in full armor as I would bare."
  2. Sombra had no sooner shaken hooves with Shadow before he was withdrawing his hoof with a faint sneer on his muzzle. Moving to a tropical island sounded like a very bad decision, to him, and he didn't care for it. Islands were surrounded by water, and the very idea of it made him uncomfortable. "I prefer something better: hiding in plain sight. A place so close to home is always the last place they look." Perhaps he knew this from experience, not that it'd ever been intentional to start with. Shadow's comment about a castle made Sombra twitch and eye the stallion, as if trying to determine if Shadow was capable of mind reading.. or if his spell let him see into his thoughts. Sombra passed off a shudder with a roll of his shoulders and grunted. "Lure him out of his home and let me destroy it. It should convince him," he muttered. It wasn't a serious suggestion, and the closest Sombra could come to making a joke. "Wild animals aren't likely to learn, collectively, to avoid ponies. The Crystal Empire is protected by its magic; everywhere else is free game to frost wolves. Perhaps your uncle has a lesson to learn about his choices," Sombra mused. An ear twitched and the comment about blending in prompted the king to glance over his cape. As much as he didn't want to go without it, Shadow had a point. It was too recognizable, and wandering around with it on with the way he looked was certain to make it evident who he was. It annoyed him to know this. He liked this cape. It was his, and he'd made it with what skills he had. His armor, too, but that had been destroyed. "I suppose," Sombra begrudgingly agreed, and caught the way Shadow was eying him. He shuffled uncomfortably on his hooves and finally moved away, stepping up to the edge of the magical field. Poking at it with his hoof, he sourly glanced back. "You'll have to drop this, first. Shall we go then?"
  3. King Sombra held Shadow's gaze, his body radiating aggressive tension. It didn't seem to ease off much throughout the time that Shadow spoke, and it was only after the explanation of the spell that Sombra gave Shadow a last searching look before he half turned away. An ear was still cocked towards Shadow that showed that he was still attentive, even though he didn't appear to be paying any attention after he'd heard what he needed. "I'm not like either of you," Sombra briefly interjected and fell silent again. It wasn't an important detail and not one he felt like telling Shadow anytime soon. He'd learned to keep everything to himself- it was better that way. Out of Shadow's following explanations, what Sombra could gather about this Tirek was that he drained energy. Whoever he was, he sounded like a troublesome foe if he was capable of that. Shadow's uncle sounded like an.. interesting pony, from what Sombra had heard thus far. Some sort of mage looking into a way of cheating death- or at least cheating the process of aging. Sombra grunted softly, noting that he might have yet another project on his hooves that he'd have to help Shadow with. It sounded like quite a lot to ask from him, in exchange for what he wanted.. or perhaps he was merely being greedy. A wild part of him considered outright asking for a castle to live in for what was being asked of him, but he stifled that particular voice's temptations. "If I decide to teach you more about dark magic," Sombra put in again and glanced up, his eyebrows lifting. Potential colt friend? Did he hear that correctly? Judging by the blush that appeared across Shadow's cheeks, he had. And just like that, the king found another small foothold over his.. new companion. "Twilight. The same Twilight you spoke of, the princess?" A soft rumble rolled through his throat, close to the inequine growl that Sombra was so capable of, but this time with a pleased note to it. "I see." "I am.. uncertain, about whether I should tell you anything about it. I don't need some nosy pony looking for and messing with something he doesn't understand." Sombra focused his unusual eyes back upon Shadow with an intensity that suggested he was trying to pin the pony in place with a look. "I'm also equally uninterested in somepony writing a biography about me. My goals are best left uncompleted, at this point. I've told you, the Crystal Empire is a waste of my time, and my life.. but if I were to ever choose to tie up loose ends, I would prefer to do it myself than hoof it off to a lackey." Sombra pointedly eyed Shadow. "If you merely want to lie to her, this Twilight, so that I may continue to walk free rather than be confined for centuries in Tartarus, as I have no doubt they'd do within seconds of seeing me, then.. fine. I will pretend." The king faced Shadow again with his head held high and offered his hoof. "I will assist you, so long as you assist me. On my own whim, I may decide to teach you, and I may decide to tell you a little about my original intent.. so long as you do not go looking into anything."
  4. The Frozen North. A sliver of dread twisted at his stomach unpleasantly at the prospect of having to go back to the place he'd just tried to escape from. He wanted nothing to do with that place, or the Crystal Empire, ever again if he could help it. It didn't matter if he was the only one of his kind that was free, that there was nothing else like him.. it didn't even matter if it'd been his destiny to free the umbrum. He'd had enough. Sombra's ears splayed out to either side of his head and he averted his gaze, staring down at the earthy forest floor with its layer of leaf litter and twigs while he heard Shadow out. There was something about helping Shadow's uncle who, for some reason, thought the Frozen North was a fine place to live. The king's snout wrinkled and he exhaled heavily. If taking out a few frost wolves was all he needed to do to earn himself a place to sleep and rest.. so be it. "Perhaps you should consider forcing your uncle to move if those beasts are such an inconvenience. The Frozen North is not a place to take lightly. It is a miracle that the crystal ponies have managed to make a home there at all." That would be Amore's doing. He'd heard stories about the frost wolves, and they were one reason to convince foals not to go wandering out of the empire unsupervised, not to mention the icy temperatures. His attention was snagged next by Shadow's next plan: it had something to do with a being in Tartarus. "Tartarus? The prison?" He thought it was just a legend. "You'll have to explain much of this to me sometime, about Tirek.. and Cerberus leaving his post," Sombra replied, expressing that he expected answers later. A pony couldn't just drop information like that and not follow up! "What's so important about your uncle that you fear this Tirek getting a hold of him?" Family importance was one thing, but the way Shadow spoke about his uncle suggested something. A low chuckle escaped Sombra. Evil overlordy ways. It struck him funny, somehow, despite the welling indignation against Shadow for assuming the worst of him.. but yet, he couldn't fault him. He'd done terrible things, and he was fully capable of doing much more if he had the reason to. For now, there were none- he just wanted to get by, to be allowed to experience life as it was for the first time-.. The spell hit him and Sombra released a wordless snarl, on his hooves at once. It hadn't hurt, but it was alarming enough to make him think he was under attack; he had to resist the urge to retaliate. With eyes narrowed dangerously at Shadow, Sombra took a few, slow and threatening strides towards Shadow to loom over him. "I am not your pet to leash and drag around on your whim! I'll only tolerate so much, and perhaps.. you should work on yourself as much as you seem to want to work on me." A snort. "I'll agree to this.. deal of ours, if you keep your magic to yourself."
  5. Sombra made a note of Shadow Scribe's name, and noticed that he didn't get so much as an eye twitch from the stallion for his comment. Sorely disappointed, he briefly looked away with a look of boredom crossing his face. It was soon gone, Sombra's eyes snapping back at the offer of information. Knowledge. It'd be easy to see how quickly his overall attitude lit up. The comment about the Crystal Empire went ignored as he listened for more. "Awfully foolish of you to assume good and evil are the only things in the world," he idly commented in the momentary pause of Shadow's speech. What he'd done in the empire, it wasn't for the sake of evil, although he knew his actions would certainly be considered as such. Was he evil, then, if this pony was offering to.. reform him? Sombra huffed softly and glanced up, catching the sign of dark magic flickering around the unicorn's spiral horn. More intrigue. "Who ever said I wanted a student?" he grumbled. It was entirely possible, the king knew, from the phrasing that Shadow would want to learn more from him, to exchange spells so that Shadow would learn what he knew. Dark magic was one of the things Sombra was best at, after all. "It may surprise you that I have no interest in returning to the Crystal Empire. The place is nothing but misery. It took the magic of the Crystal Heart tearing me apart to see that." Frowning again, Sombra's eyes drifted back towards the town- some of the buildings he could still see through the trees. The shade here in the forest had done wonders to making him feel a little better, at least. "I will make one thing clear: you cannot hope to change me, to twist me to your own needs, to make me a pet. I do not know why you wish to reform me, and I do not think I would care for the answer. However, in exchange for the information you offer, a place for me to sleep and time for me to regain my strength, I may consider helping you with your.. projects, and the magic if I feel like it. Before I can fully agree, I wish to know what these projects of yours are. It does no good for anypony going into something without knowing what it is, first." Sombra had a degree of unpredictability about him, a demon that did things on a whim and when he so chose. Any deal made was less of an understanding, mutual partnership and more of use- it was always for his own gain, and without a single care given in the world for what the other wanted. But he'd play along, for now, knowing he had the threat of discovery hanging over his head. Well played.
  6. The pony's baffled expression was only answered in kind by a flat look from Sombra. Of course not. Any chance of finding a source of information hadn't been possible until he'd found this town. It was possible he'd passed others on his journey south, but he hadn't wanted to waste so much of his time wandering endless green expanses for some sign of pony life. The king was silent a moment longer, studying the other stallion's face while he spoke of something called the Elements of Harmony, although a quiet chuckle escaped him at Rainbow Power. It sounded so utterly.. ridiculous. "Discord.." he murmured. What little news reached the Crystal Empire had mentioned the spirit of chaos. Discord? They had him as an ally? Sombra's expression changed, his brow furrowing. He still didn't know what the pony meant by reformed, but he was definitely going to find out. Red eyes flicked up to the other stallion's glowing horn, and he could tell just by looking that the pony was preparing himself for.. something. No doubt dealing with him. Sombra adjusted his stance, eying the magical field around them. He was feeling considerably.. boxed in. Rolling his shoulders, he exhaled heavily through his nostrils and fixed the pony with his hateful gaze. "I still have many questions, pony," he replied, almost spitting the word. "You seek to offer some sort of deal, and yet.. beyond shelter, none of it benefits me. Threats are not the only way to get somepony on your side. Perhaps you should settle yourself before you make any rash decisions." A frown crossed Sombra's muzzle then, and he eased himself down to sit. It was a move that expressed his sheer refusal to budge- not yet. "What is this.. 'reformed' business you keep talking about?" Sombra asked, an eyebrow arching. "And.. what more do you have to offer me? I need more than just a bed, or shelter. If you want me for whatever projects you have, you're going to have to do better. Seduce me." It wasn't meant romantically, or in any way beyond convincing, but the umbrum chose that particular phrasing just to see how the pony would react. For his own amusement, of course.
  7. King Sombra was pulled from his thoughts by a puzzling thing that had appeared: a magical barrier. In the seconds before he heard the voice, he squinted at the shimmering field with apparent confusion, mid-step. It wasn't as if he thought it had appeared from nowhere, either- it had just been so sudden. At least, it seemed to be when he'd been so lost in thought. His body stiffened when the pony spoke. It sounded like what he was being offered was some sort of deal, but he didn't know this pony. He hadn't even known he'd existed until now. Sombra slowly turned, his expression already settling into a scowl. Briefly, his eyes slid past the other stallion to look behind him and around them both before he deigned to answer, making sure there weren't any others lying in wait if the pony's plans went wrong. There didn't seem to be. It was just them, and the magical field. Snorting, Sombra drew himself up to his full height to look as intimidating as he could, despite looking so travel worn. "Who is this 'Princess Twilight'?" he first asked, his voice a low rumble. This was the first he was hearing about another princess. "Why should I be swayed to do your bidding, when I have never heard of nor cared about a Princess Twilight? The threat of taking me to her will get you nowhere; if you can even drag me before her, or anypony else for that matter!" His tone almost sounded like a challenge, as if Sombra were saying try me. Suffice to say, though he hadn't shown it, the offer for somewhere to sleep did intrigue him. If there was a way he could bend this situation more to his advantage than the pony's, then this silver stallion just might have a chance to get him to budge. Sombra just had a few more questions.. but he'd wait to hear out the answers of the first two that he'd asked before he'd say anything else. Let the pony explain.
  8. It'd been a matter of some months of traveling south into Equestria on hoof before he found anything of interest. It would have been faster if there was another form of transportation, but Sombra had not yet learned of the train- he had only ever seen the odd tracks of wood and metal, crossed during part of his travels. Equestria, Sombra came to notice, was terribly bright and sunny, made up of great swaths of untouched wilderness with pockets of civilization. The first place he finally stumbled upon was a lively, sprawling town. The architecture of the buildings and the material that made them up looked entirely alien to Sombra's eyes, having only ever seen the Crystal Empire. Pale walls, wood trim, and yellow straw-thatched roofing. The ponies, on the other hoof, were nothing new; the only difference was that they didn't have the shine that the crystal ponies had. They were bright and pastel, but dull. Dull, like him. It might've been a nice change, if the mere sight of ponies hadn't set him on edge. It was after some quiet backpedaling that Sombra decided to skirt the edge of the town, wandering in between the scattered buildings and studying what he could see thus far without drawing attention to himself. Or so he believed. It was still, entirely possible that ponies had seen him, and some no doubt still saw him, lurking on the edges like a wolf watching a flock of sheep. For the first time in a very, very long time, King Sombra found himself at an utter loss of what to do. He was still weak. No throne, no crown, and no position of power. He couldn't take what he needed by force, and not in Equestria- if the royal sisters got wind that he still lived, they'd certainly come after him. The thought of being locked away again in some other manner of prison by their hooves filled him with fear, and he hated it. After Sombra had gotten to see a little of this town of ponies, he withdrew towards the dark forest that seemed to border part of it. Having no knowledge of what it was or its history, the only thing that he saw in it was temporary refuge. A place to linger until he had some sort of idea, some sort of plan, on how he would deal with entering this town. If anypony dared follow, he might not see them; he was too wrapped up in his own thoughts, for the moment.
  9. Oooh, those both sound like pretty neat ideas! I'd totally be up for it c: I've gotten to rp my Sombra with a friend of mine's AU one once, that was the only time I'd done that before. So I think it'd be pretty entertaining to see how that goes with ours. xD But I'd be up for Sombra meeting your character Shadowscribe~ It'd be a good start.
  10. King Sombra No Place for the Wicked - For Sombra, being in Equestria is a new experience and the modern day is as confusing as it can be for a being who is, essentially, displaced from his own time. Someone as distinctive looking as him in a land of friendly, colorful ponies is bound to stick out like a sore hoof! Whether he's recognized or not, he's likely to run into quite a few ponies to interact with, with possibilities both good and sour. [Shadow Scribe, Midnight Oil, Raven Shadowfire, Chesster Pierce; closed] Friendship? What's That? - Bitterness and past betrayal has left Sombra skeptical about the legitimacy of friendship. Although he initially scoffs and rolls his eyes over the mere concept, there is a chance that he may attempt to give it a chance- the world has changed from what he knew, after all. Knowing Sombra, there'll be a lot of hoof-dragging and bribery involved. Additionally, if he were to find somepony who he can relate to on similar experiences, somepony he can connect with, may make it much easier! [Princess Celestia, Raven Shadowfire; still open] Confrontation - Be it a crystal pony, someone who's dealt with him before, or just some pony who knows who he is- someone brave enough that wishes to try to confront the arrogant king for what he had done can certainly do so. As Sombra wishes to avoid anypony of importance finding out he has risen again and now roams Equestria, he cannot react as he normally would. How will the situation go? [Chesster Pierce; still open] To Love a Monster - It may become apparent Sombra's heart isn't so black as many might think when he comes to develop feelings for somepony; somepony who he's gotten to know, and who has bothered to truly get to know him past the evil tyrant facade he's put up. Though he is flawed and arrogant, the feelings he has for another may finally be what encourages him to change himself for the better. Alternatively, perhaps Sombra will simply end up having a few, cute flings. [Closed] Other, small goals/possibilities - becoming self maintained with others' help, finding a roof over his head, getting access to a store of knowledge so that he might learn more about Equestria as a whole, assisting others with odd jobs for his own gain, etc. [closed] __ These are about all I can think of so far for possible plots with Sombra! I'm open to talk about any plots with him, and I'll happily help others' out with their plots too, which includes offering up Sombra to play some sort of needed role~. Don't be afraid to ask! I'm eager to get into roleplaying Sombra actively with anyone for any reason.
  11. Ooh, awesome O: Thank you for answering! c:
  12. Roleplay Type: WoE Name: Sombra Sex: Male Age: Adult Species: Umbrum; visibly a unicorn Eye colour: Red Coat: A plain grey Mane/Tail: A long, wavy black mane often kept swept back from his face. His tail is kept short, but has the same wavy quality as his hair. The only noticeable facial hair he keeps are sideburns- all kept well groomed if he is able. Physique: Sombra stands at a height that allows him to tower head and shoulders over most ponies, and his tall stature is matched by a physically fit appearance- what can best be described as buff. Somewhat barrel-chested and athletically toned, without the awkwardness of overly defined musculature; sturdy in appearance. Residence: Previously the Crystal Empire. Currently nowhere. Occupation: While he currently holds no job, Sombra spends his time traveling and it is mostly in search of new knowledge, to see how much the world has changed since he'd been gone, and to see Equestria with his own eyes at last. Being a foreigner, he has a lot to discover about the modern day. Cutie Mark: None Unique Traits: Red eyes with cat like pupils, a curved horn, and visibly sharp teeth. Seems to be able to morph into shadow, but never in the light of the sun. Skills Dark Magic: The only brand of magic Sombra is capable of using. Its source is rage, and Sombra employs offensively or defensively when it's required of him. It is most often used in doing one of the things he is best at, casting curses, as well as creating traps that target a pony's greatest fear. Along with that, he can make doors open up onto small rooms or serve as a portal to another spot, so long as it's in the same area or building. Crystals: Perhaps an addition to what he can do with dark magic, Sombra can make strange, black crystals grow from the ground. Spread by his corrupting influence, or used defensively as a barrier between himself and others. Fear: Capable of feeding off of the fear and despair of ponies the way changelings feed off of love. Weaknesses 'Light' Magic: Any magic considered to be pure, such as the Elements of Harmony, and the crystal ponies' combined magic through the Heart. The two sisters' magic is equally as capable of hurting him more than the standard unicorn's. Love Magic: As an opposite for what he seems to stand for as an embodiment of hate, the love magic that is used by Princess Cadance and her possible ancestor, Princess Amore, can do the worst damage to him. The light and love channeled through the Crystal Heart is enough to destroy him. Other: Sombra cannot swim, and his own arrogance is enough to be his undoing. History: Originally found by the crystal guard outside of the Crystal Empire, a young grey colt was brought to the city's orphanage, run by a mare named Chestnut Falls. With no knowledge of pony language, the only word he knew or was capable of speaking later became his name, Sombra. He had no knowledge of any parents or where he came from, and so the orphanage took him in. It is there that he learned how to read and write, with some difficulty, and described learning to speak the pony tongue 'like chewing peanut brittle'. His broken speech and dull, dark coloration earned him the mockery from his fellow orphans, as he was the only non-crystal pony in the city. Out of all of them, the only one he found a friend in was a fellow outcast by the name of Radiant Hope, a kind and imaginative filly. It is she who he would grow up with as close friends, and together tried to find their cutiemarks; a task that they never seemed successful in. Sombra would first learn a hint of what is to come when he and Radiant Hope visit the Crystal Heart a time before their first Crystal Faire, remembering what they'd been taught about the Heart showing them a glimpse of their futures. While Hope saw herself as a princess, Sombra would only see a shadow with glowing eyes that would haunt him for the rest of his life. It is here, too, that he would meet Princess Amore. When asked of what he saw, Sombra lied and claimed he saw 'nothing, only darkness' and he would feel guilt about lying to the princess. When the Crystal Faire came, the magic of the Faire kept Sombra bedridden by the pain. Nopony could figure out what was wrong, and the pain was gone by the time the Faire was over. Hope would always be by his side no matter how badly they both wished to see the Crystal Faire, and this would continue for every Crystal Faire after. There came a time in their early adulthood that that magic would nearly shatter Sombra, but Hope used her magic in desperation to prevent this. In doing so, she finally gained her cutiemark in healing. The development of such magic earned Hope a chance to study under the princesses, and it was both what she gained and this offer that would drive Sombra to flee in hopes that he would find his own destiny as she had. It drove him out into the frozen wastes surrounding the empire, where he would encounter a strange red crystal that spoke to him, naming itself his mother. She revealed him what he was, and that he was forced into the form of a unicorn in order to allow his escape. She unlocked his dark power and bid him to find the door to the prison and free them all. Driven by this purpose, Sombra returned to the Crystal Empire that night to steal the Crystal Heart. Princess Amore confronted him, and Sombra discovered then that she knew exactly what he was and kept that information in hopes that he would make the right choice, to choose not to be like 'those monsters.' Both her insult and the information she'd knowingly withheld angered him to the point that he lashed out against Amore, turning her to black crystal and shattering the statue. Hope, witnessing this, attempted to reason with him and fled when she could not. Sombra covered up the hurt caused by her parting words and gladly accepted the title of king of monsters, disowning Hope as a friend with unspoken regret. Sombra went on to do what he was known for: enslaving the Crystal Empire's citizens and forcing them to dig, all in order to find the door to the umbrums' prison buried deep beneath the city. It was only a matter of time before the princesses arrived to banish him beneath the ice for a thousand years. His last act of defiance was ensuring the empire disappeared along with him in a curse he cast. A thousand years spent in an icy void would take its toll on the king when he returned disoriented, desperate to regain his throne. It was this desperation and fury that drove him to act so recklessly. He would find his second defeat at the hooves of Twilight Sparkle and her friends, and the new crystal princess, Princess Cadance. The magic of the Crystal Heart would shatter him at last, freeing the crystal ponies of him once and for all. It would only be a few years later that he would rise again, his body reformed but temporarily weakened by the toll the Heart's magic took on him. With nothing but his cape left intact and his mind clear again, Sombra left the Frozen North behind to venture south. Character Personality: Sombra has a passion for knowledge and uses his intelligence to his advantage to manipulate, scheme and prepare against possibilities. His greed and a rage born of lifelong bitterness once drove him to achieve his goals by any means necessary; though his defeats have tempered this, he still holds a belief that he deserves something in life. He is also gruff, self-conscious, and uncertain about his identity, calling himself 'the king of monsters' because of how many times those he once trusted flung the word monster at him. He believes it to be the truth of what he is, not only because of how others choose to see him, but because of what he'd glimpsed in the Crystal Heart. A vision of his future and his destiny, he did not believe that he could choose a different path. Sombra is outwardly confident to the point of arrogance and does not shy from interacting with ponies if he absolutely must. Those who meet him may describe him as rude and rather grumpy. Some of his overall personality and actions are a coverup for how he truly feels- self-conscious, alone, and lost without his intended purpose in the Empire. He is fiercely protective of his true emotions and has a difficulty opening up or trusting others because of his past. His treatment at the hooves of others leads him to believe he is justified for what he has done to the crystal ponies and he refuses to acknowledge that he is wrong for it. He is equally unafraid of lying and being dishonest when it suits him. Notable guilty pleasures, that anypony could notice if they pay close enough attention, is that he has a hidden love for stories and will gladly sit attentively during any that are told, and he adores having his mane stroked or petted to the point that he'll go still and relax whenever anypony touches it. Character Summary: King Sombra was once the tyrant of the Crystal Empire that he enslaved, ousted from his throne twice by the actions and decisions of the princesses and their allies. Once controlling and power hungry, he remains a deeply flawed individual who allowed others of his kind use him to fulfill a purpose, and he hasn't yet learned the importance of choices. Without a way to follow what he believes to be his destiny, he feels he has lost his purpose and chose to travel south into Equestria, giving up on a place that has once been a home and a bane on his life. He mostly intends to lie low and see what has changed in the time he'd been gone. Most of it is based on what was seen in the show and comics with my own interpretations, additions, and development.
  13. I just worked up the courage to make a post for this, but I'm looking to see who's around who wants to rp~? I've already made a couple profiles of the characters that I rp, though I don't have any specific ideas to toss out to garner interest. I mostly just wanna toss myself into rp to see what sticks, and just let things happen as they come along. I'd also be happy to go along with any ideas, just as long as they're not too out there or involve humans, heh. I mainly have interest in rping Sombra for w/e, though I can use someone else if wanted. (If I haven't responded right away I've probably passed out and I'll answer when I wake up; its pretty late and im crazy sleep deprived)
  14. Name: Yunalesca, or just Yuna. Nickname: 'Lady Yuna' Gender: Female Age: Mare Species: Pegasus-zebra hybrid; 'zony' Eye colour: Dark magenta irises Character colour: A pastel fuchsia, with a white belly and white flight feathers. Mane/Tail/Other: Her mane is an indeterminate dark brown sometimes streaked with thin, pale stripes when she forgets to redye her mane and tail hair. Both are worn rather long, sometimes bound by gold rings. Physique: Yuna stands at the average height of most ponies with a slim if rather skinny frame; the latter is the result of traveling often and sometimes forgetting to eat. Residence: Various, as she travels from town to town; she lives out of her wagon. Occupation: Fortune teller. Yuna spends her time telling others' fortunes and trying to predict their future. She utilizes tarot cards, dream meanings, astrology, and clairvoyance with a crystal ball for 'scrying' into for her fortune telling. She may even offer horoscopes upon request. Cutie Mark: A curl of purple smoke coming out of a half-closed green eye. Special Talent: Precognition; Yuna has a way of reading into things in order to predict what may happen, as well as reading ponies given enough time. Mostly manifests as 'feelings/gut feelings'. Unique Traits: Faint stripes slightly darker than her coat visibly litter it, marking her as having zebra blood. Two white spots on each cheek and a spattering of freckles on the bridge of her snout. Other: She wears shawls of varying dark colors and styles, all noticeably worn from travel as well as two, small gold hoop earrings in her left ear. History: Yuna hails from a small village along the Unicorn Range, living only with her mother. She was a shy filly, something not helped by the bullying she received from other foals for being half zebra. It persisted the older she got, having not yet managed to earn her cutiemark no matter what she tried. She eventually got into the more occult side of things when she came across the topic of strange magics, the supernatural and fortune telling, much to her mother's unhappiness. While Yuna came to understand fortune telling was merely all smoke and mirrors and didn't amount to anything, the basic idea interested her: to predict the future. She'd always been more comfortable with pony-watching, so it became a past time of hers to observe the world, and ponies, around her to try to see what might happen, where their lives might lead. It was something she found herself to be very good at, even if most of the accidents and disasters that happened were the results of clumsy or unaware ponies. She later tried a strange shop in town that sold such things like tarot cards just so she might try out the fortune telling side of things. Yuna didn't find it too hard once she learned to ask the right questions and told ponies what they wanted to hear, although sometimes she didn't; Yuna was genuine in her warnings. Once she was an older adolescent, Yuna finally gained her cutiemark after realizing how much of a knack she had for it, and an unusual one at that: a half-lidded green eye with purple smoke pouring out of the pupil. In the years after Yuna would continue doing what she was best at, along with learning many other things. Yuna wanted to see if it was possible to see into the future, as her want to prevent accidents before they happened had never quite left her, though such a thing never seemed attainable without some sort of magic- magic she didn't have. It was mildly disappointing, but it was her springboard into pursuing her other passion: helping ponies. Her desire was born of wanting to be the better pony, and this encouraged her to finally leave her tiring home town behind to travel as a fortune teller. Character Personality: Yuna puts on a friendly face when interacting with ponies, but has never managed to enjoy their company. She is callous and distrustful, usually keeping her distance, and fears others shutting her out; because of such, she keeps to herself. There are rare times she yearns for the company of other ponies, but she ultimately doesn't know how to approach them or make friends. Her experience as a traveling fortuneteller has somewhat alleviated this, but she is only capable of talking to ponies without anxiety in a professional setting. Casual talk and making friends is an entirely different thing to her, and she is hesitant in socializing no matter how friendly the pony; though actually doing so is never a problem. Yuna experiences social anxiety and ultimately fears abandonment, both things that she is capable of keeping from view with an air of indifference. Slow to warm up to ponies, and sometimes too honest to the point of coming across as mean- but she's always quick to apologize. What Yuna desires most in the world is only to help ponies, and she feels she is capable of doing this through playing fortuneteller. Character Summary: Yuna is a pegasus-zebra hybrid with a fondness for the occult and fortunetelling, and a passion for helping ponies. Though she is shy and asocial with no idea how to make friends, she always tries to work around her past issues if it means possibly gaining one. * I don't normally use Yuna's predict-y side of things. If your character comes to her for a reading, feel free to tell me what you want her to see/predict/etc for your character! I never do this without the other person's permission, unless you want me to just make up some nonsense~
  15. Name: King Sombra. Gender: Male Age: Adult Species: Umbrum; 'shadow pony' Eye colour: Red irises Character colour: A plain, markless grey Mane/Tail/Other: A long, wavy black mane often kept swept back from his face. His tail is kept short, but has the same wavy quality as his hair. The only noticeable facial hair he keeps are well groomed sideburns. Physique: Sombra stands at a height that rivals Princess Luna's, and his tall stature is matched by a physically fit appearance- what can best be described as buff. Somewhat barrel-chested and athletically toned, without the awkwardness of overly defined musculature; sturdy in appearance. Residence: None currently; he travels frequently Occupation: Learning about the modern day and all the changes that'd been made over the millennium he'd been gone, including new magic. Being a foreigner to Equestria as a whole, he has a lot to discover. Learning, specifically, is a passion of his. Cutie Mark: None Unique Traits: Sombra is particularly skilled in dark magic and has an affinity for curses, as well as the creation of strange black crystals. Dark magic is the only magic he is ever seen using, and its corrupting influence does not affect him. Certain aspects of his appearance also make it clear that he isn't quite a pony, such as the cat-like pupils he has, sharp teeth, and curved horn. As an umbrum, he feeds off of fear and despair and is capable of sensing the former in ponies. He technically doesn't have to sleep or physically eat. Weaknesses: Any light magic, love magic wielded by Princess Amore and her descendant, Cadance. Sometimes his own arrogance. Long periods of no sleep or food is a detriment to how well he can function. Cannot swim. Cannot stay a shadow in the light long. His broken speech and dull, dark coloration earned him the scorn and mockery from his fellow orphans, as he was the only non-crystal pony in the city. Out of all of them, the only one he found a friend in was a fellow outcast by the name of Radiant Hope, a kind and imaginative filly. It is she who he would grow up with as close friends. Sombra would first learn a hint of what is to come when he and Radiant Hope visit the Crystal Heart a time before their first Crystal Faire, remembering what they'd been taught about the Heart showing them a glimpse of their futures. While Hope saw herself as a princess, Sombra would only see a shadowy, monstrous version of himself that would haunt him for the rest of his life. It is here, too, that he would meet Princess Amore. When asked of what he saw, Sombra lied and claimed he saw 'nothing, only darkness' and he would feel guilt later about lying to the princess. When the Crystal Faire came, the magic of the Faire kept Sombra bedridden by the debilitating pain. In doing so, she finally gained her cutiemark in healing- cutiemarks were something they had always tried to gain, and never were successful with finding. The development of such magic earned Hope a chance to study under the princesses, and it was both what she gained and this offer that would drive Sombra to flee in hopes that he would find his own destiny as she had. It drove him out into the Frozen Wastes surrounding the empire, where he would encounter a strange red crystal that spoke to him, naming itself his mother and revealing the truth of what he was, as well as unlocking his dark magic. Driven by this newfound knowledge and power, Sombra returned to the Crystal Empire that night to steal the Crystal Heart. Princess Amore would confront him, and Sombra would discover then that she knew exactly what he was and kept that information in hopes that he would make the right choice, to choose not to be like 'those monsters.' It angered Sombra to know she'd known all along, and let him suffer, and the hurt of being called a monster would only fuel that fire. Sombra used his newfound magic to turn Amore into a statue of black crystal, and shattered her before the newly arrived Hope could restore her. Shocked by his behavior, Hope would flee, calling him the same as what Amore had- it would be then that Sombra would spitefully welcome the title to cover up how he felt, and disowned Hope as his friend, seeing her as a traitor. Sombra went on to do what he was known for: enslaving the Crystal Empire's citizens and forcing them to dig, all in order to find the door to the umbrums' prison buried deep beneath the city. It was only a matter of time before the princesses arrived to fight and banish him beneath the ice for a thousand years, in which he would ensure the empire disappeared along with him in a curse he cast. A thousand years spent in an icy void would take its toll on the king when he returned, disoriented, desperate to regain his throne and driven by this desperation and his fury to the point he acted recklessly. Character Personality: Sombra is sadistic, greedy and prideful with an untempered rage and a willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, which takes a manipulative, intelligent mind to come up with such plans and strategies as he has employed; he is a creature that never stops scheming. A vision of his future, he did not believe that he could choose a different path. Sombra is outwardly confident to the point of arrogance and does not shy from interacting with ponies if he absolutely must, but he would otherwise keep his distance both physically and emotionally. Once controlling, greedy, prideful and power hungry; a deeply flawed individual who hadn't yet learned the importance of choices and allowed others of his kind use him to fulfill a purpose. Primarily now acts on his own needs and for his own goals. Can you tell I really like Sombra? I could probably go on for days but I'll leave it as is. Most of it is based on the show and comics with my own interpretations, additions, and development. Please don't be afraid to ask to rp with him! I try to keep his general grumpiness and angst low-key for rp enjoyment.
  16. I made my username from something I'd been writing; I was intending to make a pony setting separate from mlp for a friend who, at the time, got tired of mlp for a while bc of interaction with the bad fans. I never finished building the setting beyond some species stuff and a creation myth that has a lot to do with a natural cycle of creation/destruction with the world. The being representing destruction was a dragon, so, when I was remaking a tumblr account and struggling with a username, I ended up thinking about that setting again, thus 'dragonofruin'
  17. I've already been through the playable species list and such, and I just wanted to ask staff specifically about pony-zebra hybrids since I saw nothing about realistic hybrids; would they be generally allowed? I have two of them that I might make applications for, if I can, and I wanted to ask first before I do! Also would they be allowed to have wings (if one parent is a pegasus) or a horn (if one parent is a unicorn)? I'd imagine that their magic would only focus on one parent species' magic depending on which one they lean further towards, and I understand real life horse/zebra hybrids are sterile. @Dio
  18. Thanks, both of you! c: I've been perusing all the info on the site, especially the rules and stuff~ I'll be sure to ask staff about zonies!

    Hiya~

Hey, I'm Mal! If you wanna just call me 'dragon', that's fine too. I just got introduced to this forum by someone I know, and I'm really interested in getting to rp more actively with others again. Roleplay/writing are one of my passions, along with drawing. I'm not too much of a serious artist and the most that I do is just draw my or others' characters. I've got a handful of OCs hoarded away and I hope to dust them off~ I first learned about mlp some years back and I was interested enough to try watching the show. It kinda reminded me of when I used to watch the older cartoons when I was a kid, and I came to love how cute it was pretty quickly. It's kind of grown into an obsession/special interest for me. I'd first gotten into mlp rp specifically when I ran into a then-acquiantance on a little pixel game in a dusty corner of the internet, and it just sort of went from there. It's fun and one setting that I truly enjoy. I'd have to say my favorite characters would have to be King Sombra, along with Celestia. I really ship them too. I suppose the only questions I'd have is if pony-zebra hybrids are allowed? I hadn't seen anything about them/such hybrids in the playable species list, because I have a couple of zony characters. And if so, would they be allowed to have wings (if one parent is a pegasus) or a horn (if one parent is a unicorn)?
