  1. I just wanted to put forth this idea a few friends and I came up with. "Everybody" vs "Everypony" - the form "Everypony" is the PC (politically correct) term, but a lot of people arent very PC or just dont care and say "Everybody" Just like even today we still hear/say "Blacks" instead of "African Americans" quite often in the USA, even in places where technically we should be more PC. As for the original topic... I can understand, I came into the fandom as an obcession (as I do with every fandom) and it's slowly wearing off. I'm not spending all my time thinking about ponies now, I'm starting to want to listen to non-brony music, and I'm not spending every minute of free time reading Fanfics. But I am still looking forward to the latest episode (hvant seen it yet, I wont have a 'block' of time untill late tonight), I'm still writing on ym fanfics and reading on one or two (and I certainly havn't deleted me "to read" list), and I'm still eagerly awaiting and plan to wear my Pony Tshirts and messenger bag. (Not to mention I'm wanting to do some Pony RP on here if I can ever figure out what kind of character I have to make to get accepted >.<) In short, I came in at a peak and now I'm leveling out. I'll still go up and down, excited and obcessive one day and barely still a fan the next. I do fear this summer what will happen. On the other paw, I was also simiarly deep in the old Sonic Fandom, and I continued to love the fan-works long after the SatAM series ended (and I had no access to comics, all I had was the 'net and fan material) I kept that going for over a decade before the fandom finally got to the point I completely lost interest (canon plot changed too radically for my taste and all the fans followed suit) I can easily see the same thing happening with the FiM fandom. (And lets not forget how many fans there still are of the original StarTrek, despite the series having ended decades ago it's still a focalpoint of geek culture) Even if Hasbro decided to do something foolish, such as cancel S3 and create a G5 series that returned to the 'mindless commercial' mindset, I think the bronies would simply declare 'Death of the Author' and continue to crank out material based on FiM for quite some time. (and I dont *think* hasbro is that stupid, they know they have a great potential of $$$ here if they can find the right balance...)
  2. I'm not getting into the argument, I'm just going to respond to the OP. The reason I love RP is that, to an extent, I have no idea where the story will go! When I write a story, for the most part I know what's going to happen, when it's going to happen, and how it's going to happen. But in an RP there are all kinds of things thrown in that you don't expect, sometimes people behave in unpredictable ways. If your the one in charge of the plot, it makes you have to think on your feet and figure out exactly how to handle the new issue, and if your one of the players, it means you get to wait and see how the GM handles the issue (or how the other players handle it if there is no over-all plot and it's mostly one bit free-for-all) It makes a story interactive like a video game, but on a whole new level because your not confined by the limits of the game engine. You don't like that wall there? Fly over it! that pit of spikes? use the rope to lower yourself down then break off all the spikes! It's a wide-open world! The best of reading AND writing a story, you have some control but your still surprised over and over again. Granted this doesn't *always* happen, but that is what the goal is. Even if the end of the RP is obvious, it's a case of "getting there is half the fun!"
  3. Roleplay Type: Crossover Name: Scootaroll Sex: Male Age: Colt Species: Pegasus Eye Color: Grey Coat Color: Orange Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: light Purple with dark purple highlights, sometimes with rainbows striped in (when he can harass Elusive into doing it) Physique: Small, atheletic Cutie Mark: None, actively (obcessivly) looking for it Origin/Residence: Alternate-Universe Ponyville Occupation: Student Motivation: To one day be as awesome as Rainbow Blitz, To Join the Wonderbolts, and To discover his Cutie Mark. Likes: Rainbow Blitz, The Wonderbolts, Rainbow Blitz, Riding his scooter, Rainbow Blitz, sappy romances, Rainbow Blitz and did I mention Rainbow Blitz? Dislikes: Being a 'Blank Flank', being a poor flier. Character Summary: The cosmos itself is infinite, but beyond this there are an infinite number of 'alternate realities' where things can go from 'normal' to bizarre. In one of these realities lives Scootaroll, the cross-gender Quantum Clone of Scootaloo. Like Scootaloo, he enjoys speed and daring stunts, as well as his universe's Rainbow Dash, Rainbow Blitz. Unlike Scootaloo, however, he is quite fussy about his (and others) appearances and his interest in Rainbow Blitz might be a little more than casual idol worship. If pressed Scootaroll will even admit he finds Blitz Attractive, even "Hot". Also unlike his female version, Scootaroll takes every costuming oppertunity to dress up as Rainbow Blitz, and usually refuses to remove the rainbows from his mane and tail untill they start to fade (and once he secretly kept dying them back in so they would last longer). He also is very fussy about his appearance, even though his mane might look spikey and unkept he spends close to an hour every morning styling it *perfectly* and his longer-than-the-average-male-pony tail is silkier and softer than most fillies' tails. Scootaroll is always looking for his cutie mark, feeling empty and ostracized from his peers without it, but he also dedicates a disproportionate amount of time to watching (read "stalking") his idol, Rainbow Blitz. He secretly hopes that when his mark appears it will be similar to Blitz's mark (even if his suspected talents are completely different to the rainbow stallion's) He also aspires to one day join the Wonderbolts, possibly under the assumption that his Idol Blitz will by then also be a Wonderbolt... 4. Roleplay Type: Crossover Name: Dusk Shine Sex: Male Age: 17ish Species: Unicorn Pony Eye Color: Dark Purple Coat Color: Light Purple Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Dark Purple, almost blue, with lighter purple highlight (shoter male version of Twilight) Physique: Average Cutie Mark: One large red star surrounded by smaller white stars Origin/Residence: Alternate-universe Ponyville Occupation: Heir/pupil to Prince Solaris Motivation: Learn magic, help his friends, protect equestria Likes: Magic, Studying, Double-espresso Peppermint Coffee with 3 cream, 7 sugar, and (amusingly) a large marshmallow in the center... Dislikes: Socializing (at least with those he's not familiar with), Braggarts, Sleepiness, silverfish dining upon his books. Character Summary: From the fanfic "On a Cross and an Arrow" Dusk Shine is the Opposite-Gender Quantum Clone of Twilight Sparkle, he shares most of her characterization, including his love of magic and his friends as well as his undieing respect for Prince Solaris, his OCD and his intense love of studying. Unlike Twilight, though, he is slightly more assertive and outgoing, though still a social misfit. He also seems to suffer from a mild case of Attention Deficit Disorder at times and is easily distracted, which is one of the prime reasons that his magic has failed time and time again even on some of the simplest of spells... Dusk Shine is one of the post powerful unicorns in equestria... if he can just master his powers. He's been under the tutalidge of Prince Solaris himself since he was a young colt, and has shown his potential many times over. Because of this he suffers through rigerous study and training to hone his skills and one day live up to the dreams his mentor has for him (though Dusk is completely oblivious to the full extent of his potential future) Unfortunately, all this studying has made him rather... awkward... when he socializes with other ponies not always taking into consideration their feelings and coming off as snarky or outright rude even when he has their best interests at heart. Dusk Shine grew up in the capital of Canterlot, spending most of his time doing magical research. After being accepted into Prince Solaris' Academy for Gifted Unicorns, He continued to study and also, having a direct link now with the Prince, felt the urge to warn him of possible danger. Many disasters were averted thanks to Dusk's eye to detail and keen analitical mind. Most recently he became aware of the date prophecizing the return of the evil Stallion Anarchy Apollo and as usual reported this to Solaris. The Prince, much to Dusk's surprise, did not seem very concerned. However, due to his nack for organization and organization, he was sent to oversee the prepreation for the summer sun celebration with his assistant, Barbra the dragonling, by Prince Artemis. Once there he met the event organizers AppleJack, Rainbow Blitz, Elusive, and Butterscotch, as well as the hyperactive and slightly insane Bubble Berry. However, once the celebration started, it was discovered that, as Dusk had suspected, Anarchy Apollo had escaped from his imprisonment on the moon and kidnapped Prince Solaris. With his newfound friends Dusk recovered the Elements of HArmony from the Castle of the Pony Brothers and defeated Apollo, freeing Solaris and revealing Apollo's true form of Prince Artemis. Following this adventure he requested to transfer his studies to Ponyville so he could remain with his new friends and has since been learning the magic of friendship and sending weekly reports to Prince Solaris on his findings. Voice/Image: EDIT: Can somone PLEASE tell me what I'm doing wrong with the formatting?! I *KNOW* I copied it right! (Formatting Fixed! Thanks Rob! (or whoever you happen to be at this second )
  5. What are you converting it for? Depending on the device it might be easier to use either a live streamer like PMS or add a new program like DICE player... I know I've seen MKVs take hours to convert to other formats...
  6. Lesson Zero is a double-edged sword (though it's my favorite) because it shows twilight come COMPLETELY UNHINGED which she otherwise never does (not fully that is), same goes for Party of One with Pinkie. What got my father to watch the show (casually - he's no Brony but he admits to liking it and would watch if it he were channel-surfing and saw it) is "Winter Wrap Up" it has a great musical number and enough stealth jokes that a lot of people find it really good without being too over the top. I do agree, dont show anyone either season-premier because they're nothing like the series (well 101 kinda is, but 102/201/202 are not) EDIT: He wanted to point out that his favorites were actually "Dragonshy" and "The Stare Master" (Fluttershy is his favorite pony)
  7. It will have the HASBRO logo somewhere on it (usually on the bottom)
  8. I gotta say "Winter Wrap Up" is my favorite, it's the one that completely converted me from just a 'casual fan' to an out-and-out Brony. Second is a tie between Art of the Dress and Becoming Popular (ironic, Rarity is my least favorite pony but she has the best songs!) I'm gonna go against the grain and say I didnt really like 'At the Gala' except for Dash's part *loves 80s rock* I really want to see an all-out Rainbow Dash Rock Ballad! Also, if it werent done so horribly, I'd have loved the CMC's theme song (though I'm lovin' the Fan-dub'd Power Metal version) I really look forward to the properly-done Scootaloo song in S3 Somone mentioned Fan Music, I'm a fan of Mando Pony and the Beetle Bronies but I think my favorite is "We make the perfect team" (Spike +Twilight) dont know who the artist is off the top of my head, second favorite would be "Beginning of Harmony: The End of Equestria" I'm not a big fan of instrumentals (though I do like "Dash's Empty Sky")
  9. I'm agreeing with the majority that I think Pinkie appeals to the target demographic the most (discouting her breakdown in Part of One, in which case I think she would seriously creep out some of the younger kids - at that oone point probably rarity since popular view if girls should be into fashion) Second place ties with Rarity for prestated reason or with flutershy due to how so many young girls are shy and quiet (Though like pinky she has her eppisode (At the Gala) where I think she could seriously creep out little kids... (honestly all of them have these moments except Dash who simply goes catatonic under stress and AJ who just becomes either snappy and slightly violent or borderline drunk...) I think there is only a very small minorty of nerdy girls who would like twilight, and a LOT of them would be pushed away by how often she has psychotic breakdowns (even discounting her completely unhinged Lesson Zero, she still gets a little creepy every few episodes and practically EVERY episode she's the central pony) Second I chose rarity because, as stated above girls are 'supposed' to like frilly fashionista stereotypes and rarity iirc is still the frilliest of the ponies in toy form (though its hard to say since they're all still the 'traditional' pony style minus the molded plastic toys...) my second guess would be either pinkie or dash since all girls like pink (ex: pink celestia *shudder*) or failing that if they're not familiar with the show and dont know who the lad-ette is, they'll be drawn to the most colorful pony, which without any question is Rainbow Dash.
  10. I dont know wheather I love or hate you now... ugh! why cant it be in atlanta! why! I demand video! if you can make a Tshirt Gun I want to see it!
  11. Oh you son of a.... Not fair... *pouts* now I really wish I was going...
  12. Yes, if you want a canon pony you have to call it first, we already've had a few disagreements on here (though they were solved quickly with no hard feelings) so you need to 'claim' your canon pony if you want to use that skin. (and likewise if your playing a canon and quit the server, let everyone know so they can make the pony available again)
  13. If I were closer you'd not be able to keep me away, but I'm down in Georgia (Though I'm still hoping to get to Dragon*Con and *maybe* if the stars all align FWA but that's unlikely) If for some gawd-forsaken reason I end up living closer due to job, I'll certainly be going next year, but for now... meh... WAY too far (especially in a car with >100K miles on it >.<)
  14. Well so far it doesnt look like it's gonna be written, certainly not any time soon, since only 1 pony's shown any interest in it... I'm suprised, I thought discord was popular enough that people would be interested in a story like this...
  15. Woot! Already we've delegated somone else! *hands brian the 'canon characters' list (1 page back and like 4 posts up)* Have fun!
  16. That's odd, I just saw her in Minecraft and she said Artax banned her...?
  17. Just letting everyone know, Starburst was banned from this site, so untill she gets s/he gets the ban resolved or we can delegate somone more responcible than myself to make and update a new thread, I'll be posting updated memberlists/announcements here when somone joins, since I was maintaining the Canon character list,
  18. I think your right on a lot of points, however, I do want to point out two things. 1. the "connection" to furries is that furries like "Anthropomorphasized animals" literally animals with human characteristics. This includes the ponies, it also includes disney characters like Simba (TLK) and Bolt (Bolt) as well as the more traditional half-human/half-animal creatures (Really Disney is a perfect example as their works span the whole spectrum from TLK to Mickey Mouse with one of their most popular series having been "Duck Tales"/"Life and Times of Scrooge MacDuck" about Anthropomorphic ducks). I can agree that to many people the openly sexual nature that some of us like these creatures can be a little creepy, but plenty of furs do not feel or act that way, it's simply a case of the "Vocal Minority" (just like homosexuals are "men in dresses" --- to date I think I've met a total of 5 gay men who wear dresses (not counting niches like transvestites or Transexuals who technically aren't gay) and lesbians are "butch masculine 'guy' females") --- keep in mind I'm not trying to convert you, merely point out that this is a disproportionate stereotype, I *AM* a furry and rather close to a "furry lifestyler" and there are segments of the fandom I... dont care for... (to put it mildly) 2. I'm actually seeing the "rainbow=gay" starting to fade, quite possibly because (1) it's run it's course like most fads/trends and (2) quite possibly due to the popularity of Rainbow Dash as one of the 2 "male surrogate" ponies (the other being AJ, of course) and being a favorite of a large percentage of straight male bronies (I find it amusing in this respect that the gay bronies tend to like a different pony while the straight ones go for the technicolor mare, though aesthetics aside it makes perfect sense). Fun Fact: long ago, pink was seen as the "male" color and blue was the "Female" color (due to association with "Blood" and "innocence" respectively) These things change a lot and really you cant find hardly anyone that doesn't like rainbows, so I suspect this will fade away again soon enough. Otherwise, I 100% agree with you and that's how I live my life, if you dont ask I dont shove it in your face, but I also dont hide it (2 pony shirts and a laptop bag on order with plans to get 2 more, and looking for a show-accurate Rainbow Dash figure/plush to live in my car next to the other plushies in the rear window) If people were open but not forceful about their interests we wouldn't have so many "issues" like this from any group
  19. Just for sake of argument they could also operate on Nichola Tessla's Free Energy Principal, which involves wireless broadcast of electricity. (Though I'm still siding with Magic in terms of lighting, equestria seems to be in more-or-less middle-ages technology wise, minus the indoor plumbing and seemingly modern ovens O_o)
  20. That being said... A lot of people are equating bronies with child mollesters, which is sad but common, really anyone who is interested in something "severely immature" is looked at this way, and the media sensationalism isnt helping (might also be "Bronies = Furries" and "furries = all kinds of bad" (which again is severely wrong) I find this believable, though I have my questions about how legitimate it was. My mother told me as young as 13 that if I ever "decided to become gay" (yes, my radical-right mother thinks sexuality is a choice -_-) that she would throw me out of not just the house but the family! So, I can see this happening...
  21. I love when fans try to find an in-universe explanation for an out-of-universe phenomenon This. Take AJ's unkle and Aunt, while they're *technically* apples by blood, but they're instead oranges and they're socilites, not farmers. Also Hayseed Turnip Truck, he has turnips as his cutie mark but he's a window washer. Another possibly example: Zecora, she's an african witch-doctor but her cutie mark is the endless circle ("circle of life" for the TLK fans) though as she's a Zebra this might not apply.
  22. Ok This is an idea that I originally was going to do as a RP, but Tales suggested making into a fanfic instead, so keep in mind a lot of it's not fleshed out... In short, Discord escapes from his imprisonment in secret and decides that, following his prior failure, he needs to learn about this world before he can take it over. Thus, he assumes the form of the Unicorn-pony "DC" ((D)is( C)ord) and proceeds to attempt to blend in while befriending the residents of ponyville. Also, fortunately for them, Discord also feels that nobody ELSE is allowed to destroy the world untill he has finished learning about it. Thus, while he is not exactly "reformed" he does goe from "complete monster" to "Noble Demon" status. Each chapter is about a new topic or pony that Discord learns about (like the well-known "Progress" series with Luna) and they will alternate randomly between serious and comical. Now, here's the really fun part. Because this is such a wide-open story with so many million plot branches, I plan on posting each chapter with a poll asking YOU to reader, to decide what happens next! Maybe you think that Discord is being too obvious and needs to tone down his 'performance' before people realize he's not really a Pony, or perhaps you think that he should challenge Rainbow Dash to a race or Applejack to an Apple Bucking contest (And then should he cheat?) This is your chance to decide! So, Is anyone interested in this story and social experiment?
  23. Woot! I was responcible for something other than a No-whatever-rule! And I agree! There is a need for a Drama couch!
  24. This raises interesting questions about rarity asking to use the little fillies room... or why there even is a little fillies room... So food goes in... then what?
