  1. Doublepost, gah. I don't see any delete button though. Halp. :<
  2. If someone takes her statements seriously while knowing that she's never watched the series, then they are likely not the kind of people who could ever enjoy the show either, and are just looking for uninformed agreement with their current view of it. Long story short, you gain nothing out of this.
  3. You are very unlikely to convince her of anything if she's exactly the way you describe her to be. As for berating you due to your interests in FiM, I'd say that warrants a slap upside the head rather than any concentrated effort to "fix" her. Pushing your opinion in any way if you are not asked about it is both rude and nosy, and if put together with the other traits of hers that you described, it sounds like a rather unpleasant person really. I know it ain't easy but it's sometimes best to take the moral high ground and just not bother. The more you try to convince her, the worse it will likely get since it's effectively trying to push your opinion, too, no matter how misinformed she might be.
  4. I saw the above picture earlier today, it made me feel incredibly sad about the entire issue somehow.
  5. I hear ya, it can be really frustrating to deal with people like that. However, if she is that adamant and biased without any solid information to back up her opinions with, I'm afraid your RP won't exactly get past her defenses. Those kind of people often are, quite frankly, tossing **** at things because they NEED to feel discontented with something, they need to actively oppose things, even at the cost of any sensibility. So keep in mind that there is a good chance she'll just shove fingers in her ears and go "nananana can't hear you" anyway once you two are done. If you don't mind me asking though, how come you are so invested in getting her to be at least indifferent towards the show? Seems like a lot of effort just to convince someone about a hobby that you could just as well not discuss with that person. Also, apologies if this is derailing the thread somewhat but it's sadly best way I can be of help on the subject I think.
  6. I'm not really a roleplayer myself so can't help you with the main question, however I'd like to point something out. You are unlikely to make her less hostile/disapproving towards the series through fan-made content (which RP storylines are). Even if you stick to pristine canon approach, there is still the issue of slight skew towards what the people participating find most appealing. In other words, you are trying to change her mind with things that in fact are not really the show's actual setting but your interpretation of thereof, no matter how accurate. Now, not saying the RP is a bad idea in itself, if both parties enjoy it, it obviously is far from that. But if you really want to correct her misconceptions, a pointed debate might be better, if she's at all a person you can actually discuss with. Worked for most of my social group that really bashed the show with no genuine knowledge of it, at least.
  7. Pretty much my main concern with this situation. I am not emotionally invested in the character and while I found the fact that they openly called her Derpy amusing, it didn't quite fit the general naming conventions of the show. I mean, it is an internet-specific slang word, after all. However what's going on is quite frankly confusing. I guess it feels like back-peddling out of recognizing the fandom for quite a lot of people. Can't blame them for that, really.
  8. I'm not really familiar with what the Brony Census is all about, however, I would gladly help with translation to polish if niche European languages are at all desirable. That said I have absolutely no ties to any polish fansites and/or communities, if such even exist in any organized manner here. So I cannot really help with the reaching out part.
  9. While I cannot say it taught me anything new, it definitely influenced me in other ways. For one, it gave me a new, awesome hobby. I'm rarely very passionate about things I do, so the feeling of being so interested in something is refreshing and really enjoyable. I can safely say I await every new episode with kid's glee. And not only that. Europe recently got the McDonald's MLP toys that you American folk had available in January 2011. I was quite close to bouncing all the way on my way home after buying the last two figurines today. Secondly, as an anxiety sufferer, the show is an amazing distraction when I feel mental discomfort coming up. So I suppose all in all it just made me a happier person.
  10. Pretty much how I feel about it, as well. I vastly prefer to have a disc and a box in hand, I even avoid digital distribution for games and go out of my way to pick up a physical copy (obviously side of games that never get a physical release like most indies). As such, a (preferably DVD, I lack a Bluray player) boxset release is highest up on my priority list. The country I'm from has way lower prices for media than USA or most of Europe, but I'd happily buy it even for the not adjusted pricing.
  11. There is only a one Toys R Us store in my country so far. I expect Europe to get the toys with a slight delay compared to you guys across the ocean, but I fully intend to do my 8 hour pilgrimage by train just so I can pick up Zecora and Celestia.
  12. Genuinely raw beef can be kind of chewy so it's not really easy to eat in a chunk depending on the quality of the meat, but it's okay, I'd eat it anyway. If only to make them feel a little bit sick about someone devouring large quantities of unprepared meat.
  13. Unintentional mis-speaks using pony terminology rather than the "proper" versions are a big giveaway. Guilty as charged after constantly saying "what the hay" today while cooping with a bunch of non-brony friends.
  14. Don't frequent 4Chan myself and this won't change it. I took a quick glance at the boards just now and it seems hostile to say the least, not to mention that some of the things posted make my eyes bleed. While I do not doubt there are some decent folks using the site, I never found excessive swearing, trolling and overall obnoxious behavior to be amusing, so the general population there irritates me at best. And my acceptance for that kind of behavior is certainly not improving with age. Also, I honestly do not understand the huge deal some people make out of the possible trap thing. If you've not participated in the boards there before, surely it won't be a huge deal even if banhammer crashes down on the entire /MLP/?
  15. 5' 0.2" according to the converting tool I used, 153 cm for those using metric. Yeah, I don't exactly tower over other people.
  16. I do hope it's not coming across as pretentious. I greatly enjoy written communication, seeing as it allows for expressing thoughts in an organized, detailed way. I've learned the hard way that it doesn't work too great in speech, outside of quasi-philosophical conversations when very tired or somewhat intoxicated. >_>
  17. Indie scene is certainly doing well, however it's not just the lack of innovation and sequel plague that bothers me personally about the modern market as a whole. While the raise of indies have breathed new life into certain genres, like platformers, other genres that are noticeably absent or otherwise in poor shape in the mainstream do not get as much attention even among indie crowd. Thinking, for example, about 4X strategies which do not see many new titles nowadays, the more typical turn-based strategy games (what they did to the latest HoMM... sorry, Might and Magic: Heroes, gave me a headache) and increasing scarcity RPGs that aren't at the core of it action games with very basic character development. While I doubt such games are at all popular with most of the current gamer demographic, the slow extinction is nonetheless confining at best and isolating at worst some of the longer-timers with particular tastes. And thank you for the warm welcome thus far.

    Howdy

Apologies if this will seem somewhat disjointed, I'm not too good with greetings of any sort. I've been happily following the show since late October/November last year, if memory serves. I was introduced to it by a friend of mine, who is not, however, an active participant in the fandom and so it is only now that I've decided to give the entire community thing a shot myself. Outside of ponies, I'm an avid gamer (in fact I'd easily call it my primary hobby) who's somewhat disillusioned with contemporary gaming scene and vast majority of recent titles. I also enjoy a broad spectrum of music genres and love horror movies. I'm very particular about the latter, as I tend to avoid the ones employing gross-out tactics over genuine scare due to excessive gore. On personal level, I'm in my early twenties, located somewhere in Europe and preparing for a move abroad on my own. Since I don't want this to end up as TL;DR material, I'll just stop rambling now .
