Can a show where most of the episodes end with discussing a lesson learned really have a "very special episode"?

It does make look different from the other ponies who haven't been corrupted by evil, but I do see your point

I don't know, if she was inviting people to her party just to make fun of them for being blank flanks then why did Twist get to go? She had a cutie mark and nobody likes her. Diamond Tiara teases but I have a feeling Babs Seed is going to be more deliberate and cruel. There is a difference between a person who is a jerk and teases and somebody who systematically tries to alienate and destroy a person's life. Given how many stories there have been in the last few years about the more serious bullying I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to approach it in some way

Aside from Nightmare Moon none of the other villains where ponies, and if I remember right there was an outside force that changed Luna. That could be the difference. different species have different abilities. None so far have known how to use dark magic

Diamond teases alot but she doesn't do anything too mean. She still invites Applebloom to her party after all. Maybe Babs Seed (ha I get it) will be alot crueler. That would also explain why they brought in somebody new, you don't want to totally trash a regular character who might need to be sympathetic in the future

Celestia just tells people she raises the sun. The sun rises on its own. Her real power is making stain glass windows.

Do people complain that Godzilla doesn't talk or that The Predator doesn't give Arnold a monologue about his motivations? A villain doesn't need to have a personality when it isn't required. A villain can tell a story through actions, which Sombra did well. I think the episode showed him to be not fully sentient, but more of a residual force of power that remained behind. This makes him different and uniquely dangerous compared to other villains on the show since there was no way to distract, trick or appeal to him. When looked at in context Sombra works for the episode plus you get enough of his backstory and old personality to get an idea of what he was.

To a lesser extend the other characters have also been developing as well. Rainbow Dash seems to have reigned in some of the brashness and fear of failure, although it isn't terribly consistent. Fluttershy is is somewhat more assertive depending on the episode, and Rarity's fashion business is growing in success. The Cutie Mark Crusaders also seem to be less obsessive over the crusading

Sombra worked for what he was needed. They could have added an elaborate back story and dialogue and what not, and that would have meant taking time away from the plot and Twilight's journey which was more important. He was a destructive force of nature. We get some impressions of what he was like before he was defeated. Any more back story can be accomplished either in another episode or other medium. Its not like there aren't many other villains in medium that are very similar

Disney seems really good at merchandising. If they took over Hasbro it might have meant the toys would look like the show

It seems like part of the plot hinges on it being a blank flank asked to join the crusaders. Its also possible the family element will be important

Given the limited budget I wonder if the game would have benefited from not having voice acting and a greater amount of choices and dialgue. Of course unless a game is on a console I often watch TV while playing so voice acting is not something I really care about at all.

Could be a ploy to make the best dang Kingdom Hearts game ever

Pinkie Pie started out more complex and then got simplified when the writers decided to just have her do random wacky things. In season one she is pretty street smart and knows things the other ponies don't and is able to find books Twilight can't. Season two devolved her into obsessing about friendship, being random and having her panic constantly even though she was the one who giggled at the ghosties

I think the tech level is overall low with the high level tech being the result of a unicorn's individual magic with little mass manufacturing. Flim and Flam have a magic powered automobile/apple harvester but if you were to give one to an average pony it would be useless as they don't have the magic and knowledge to run it so mass production of automobiles would be pointless. Trains going to Canterlot are powered by coal, or magic but the train going to Appleoosa was not, which is sensible if you think how a tiny frontier town has fewer resources then the capital, so the rail line would be out of date There just seems to be a large disparity although in Ponyville at least there is also quick advancement, which could be a result of Twilight being there seeing as she is both powerful and well connected.

I remember a rumor was that there was going to be a song in each episode which seems forced to me since so many episodes of the past would not be improved with a song. The preview songs I will reserve judgement for until we can see the context. They may be going for a musical thing with the premiere much like how the wedding episode had so many songs

It seemed like the ponies got pretty Flanderized when they weren't the focus but Pinkie was still pretty one noted even in her episodes
