The Grey Wardens[Dragon Age Crossover][APPLY HERE][OPEN]

Recommended Posts

Hey Everypony! Midnight here with a crossover I'm REALLY REALLY exited for! Anyways, this is a Dragon Age Origins crossover, so if you have played the game, you are set! If not, that's okay, just post any questions you have here, okay? So, I shall now write the lore for this RP:

Long ago in ancient Equestria, before the time of Celestia or Luna, a dark force of evil unicorns did the unthinkable: they defied their Maker by attempting to break into the heavens and steal immortality and power from him. In a rage, the Maker left, and never came back, but not before punishing the unicorns. He cursed them to walk as the Darkspawn, not living, but not dead, evil beings who ravage the land. They only appear every few hundred years, and when they do, it is in swarms. These swarms of Darkspawn are called blights. Ever since the first blight, a group of international peacekeepers known as the Grey Wardens have battled the Darkspawn by taking in the tainted blood of the Darkspawn and putting it into their own bloodstream. A simple ritual keeps them from dying from drinking the blood, and having the blood in their body allows them to detect the Darkspawn if they are nearby, and gives them the unparalleled abillity to destroy the tainted souls of the darkspawn, ensuring they never return. Unfortunately, the Wardens haven't the resources to kill every single darkspawn, and if a Darkspawn attacks a pony, the victim too becomes Darkspawn. The Darkspawn also had a leader, the Archdemon, which appeared as a night-black Dragon, and came once every blight. A blight continues until the current Archdemon is slain. This is the tale of the 4th blight. This is the tale of:

THE GREY WARDENS

Okay, now that that's out of the way, a couple more points of lore/background for this RP

-Unicorns have been treated rather unfairly since the betrayal of the first Darkspawn. From birth they are taken to a tower within their district, called the Circle of Magi. This is supposedly to keep them from what is known as blood magic. Blood magic is basicly when a unicorn spills his/her own blood to summon demons (yes demons exist here) and use them for different purposes. The problem with this is it makes the Unicorn nearly defenseless against possestion by demons. Once possesed, a unicorn becomes an abomination, a puppet for the demon. The demon amplifies the unicorn's power and uses it for their own twisted purposes. While not inherently evil, it is the most powerful, most dangerous, most unpredictable, and most unknown form of magic.

-Unicorns in the circle (known as Circle Mages) are guarded closely by Templars. Templars are essentialy "holy" knights appointed by the church (or Chantry) to keep order. To counter any rogue mages that rebel against the Circle/Chantry, Templars consume lyrium, the esscence of magic in mineral form. The lyrium gives them resistance to almost any kind of magic. Templars are playable characters, by the way, so if you want to be a Templar who travels with the Wardens, that is completly acceptable, even encouraged.

-Apostates are unicorns who were, by some way or another, managed to stay out of the circle. Essentialy fugitives, the Apostates are persued by Hunters, Templar knights who have been assigned the duty of finding apostates and putting them away in the Circle. Apostates are playable characters as well, so once again, if you want an Apostate who travels with the Wardens, that is acceptable.

- As seen in a lot of RPG games, your character must have one of the cliche 3 classes. Below is a simple breakdown of each:

Warrior:

A class of strength and brute force. Often using sharpened hoof guards and leg strength to fight, warriors can deal major damage with one well placed kick. Sometimes they also use lances or small buckler shields attached to their lower front legs. Often preferred by earth ponies.

-Rogue

An agile, stealthy class, rogues rarely, if ever, confront an enemy directly, instead using hoof-mounted crossbows/blades to dispatch foes. Given their natural agillity and flight capabillities, this class is often preferred by pegesi.

-Mage

A magic wielding class, mages use different kinds of spell to either distract enemies or harm them depending on the mage. Because of the fact unicorns are the only species able to use magic, all mages must be unicorns. However, not all unicorns have to be mages. You can have a unicorn warrior or rogue if you wish.

And that my friends is just about everything you need to know to get this party started. For the sake of convenience, lets keep it down to 2 groups traveling seperately, that way nopony gets confused as to what's going on. Right now there are 15 slots open for the RP, so feel free to sign up with the character sheet below:

Name: Grim Stride (Unicorn)

Class: Warrior (Vanguard Tree, Reaver specialization)

Background: An apostate who was hiding out in froggy bottom bog until he became a gray warden.

Both of Grim Stride's parent's were earth ponies. In a cruel twist of genetic's the prestigious Grim bloodline gave birth to a unicorn foal. Knowing the the templars and the circle would come for the child Grim Stride's father Gen. Grimlocke took him and went on the run. As the years went by and Grim Stride got older he started to experiment with his magic, but his father forced him to stop. Sensing his son would simply defy him and continue, he decided to tell him why free mages were dangerous, he offered a way for his son to practice his magic but warned that it would not be fun.

One morning, Grimlocke dressed his son in a small suit of chain armor and dropped a sword that crafted in front of the young unicorn. The weapon was large and heavy and impractical for an earth pony or pegasi, but Grim Stride was a unicorn, he was not limited to what his hooves could do. His first task...Lift the blade.

It took him a week, but he finally lifted it with his magic. Once he could lift his weapon, his father could train him in the bladed combat properly. The training helped sharpen his mind to strengthen, when he wasnt running drills for his father he was practicing his magic. His advancement in martial skills was rapid, but his magic seemed to go nowhere, he was just about give up on his Maker given right as a unicorn, but his pride would not allow him to soil his family name anymore. That's when the voices started.

Being rather lackluster at magic, the voices in Grim Stride's mind were easily ignored. Now a young stallion, Grim Stride, had finished his formal training with his father and was allowed to accompany him into towns. Since rumors of the blight had started spreading, the less time they spent apart the better. During a routine grocery trip to a small town that they were familiar with the town was overrun by a horde of darkspawn. The beasts slaughtered everyone in the town, the father son duo fought back to back as they attempted to escape the madness. Despite their skills Grimlocke fell in battle at his son's side. Grim Stride knew that this was the end for him, his birth had shamed his family, but perhaps he could die with honor. The voice screaming in the back of his mind louder than ever now, but this time it didn't go ignored. Accepting the presence into himself Grim Stride felt something change, his fear was replaced fervor and his fatigue was replaced by vigor. Each felled Darkspawn seemed to give him strength. But it wasn't enough, there were just too many and his strength was fading faster than it could be restored. Backed up into a wall he planted his blade into the ground, he prepared for death.

It never came, instead he looked up to see the hoard had ignored him in favour of a new threat, Grey Wardens, only the wardens would willingly enter this insanity. After the attack was repelled, the Wardens approached the lone survivor and extended a hoof of brotherhood to the young unicorn. He accepted their offer managed to survive the initiation ritual. Grim Stride is now proud of the fact that he is the first Grey Warden in the Grim bloodline.

Since his initiation Grim has continued to master his new abilities. While similar to blood magic they require no magic energy to be used. He relishes the fear he imparts on his foes and feeds on death. The young unicorn is a vicious monster in combat, using heavy powerful strikes from his large sword and draining the life from the foes around him to deal as much damage as possible. He is a high risk fighter, and he'd have it no other way.

This is before Celestia and Luna were even born. As a result, no canon characters will appear here; they simply haven't been born yet. As for the state of affairs, Equestria is currently without a proper ruler, because the king had died by the hand of one of the Darkspawn.

Ooh, A Dragon's Age Crossover! Count me in! Dragon's Age is such an awesome game!

Name: Pinprick

Class: Pegasus Rogue Duelist

Background: His mother died during his birth, and his father was always too busy trying to eke out a living for the two of them on the farm to invest any real time with him. As soon as Pinprick was old enough to hold a hoe he was forced to help him, but the work-shy foal would always do his best to dodge away and roam the small town of Hoofton. There he discovered a use for his quick hoof and became associated with the sudden absence of many-a-thing. Soon as he got the chance, he left the village with a freshly pilfered sword and signed up with the nearest group of bandits. There he looted and stole his way to a pretty bad reputation, until his entire outfit was wiped out by a travelling Grey Warden. Pinprick gave the Warden a surprising run for his money in a one-on-one duel with his quick hooves and use of a sword and dagger. The Warden eventually overpowered him, but was impressed by the pluck and ability the young pegasus possessed, and offered to spare his life if he signed up with the wardens. By some miracle, Pinprick survived the initiation ritual and has since honed his combat skills.

Pinprick rarely uses a bow, instead relying on lightning fast strikes with his signature sword and dagger approach. His biggest strength is his very impressive dodging ability, making him an extremely hard target, and his reliance on the wear them down with needles strategy. He has a knack for poisons, and is drawn towards weapons that deal elemental damage. Also while he's on the field, expect no corpse to go unlooted, and no chest to go unemptied, locked or not. Pinprick is hopeless with traps, and has a strong distrust of explosives however. While he can mix some very virulent poisons, even a simple health potion somehow evades his ability.

Btw Midnight is the leader of our little group here, being the senior officer. He initiated both of you. He is also a mage, a force mage, spirit healer, and elemental magic user. His background? He was conscripted by the warden commander while in the circle, so there's not much to tell.

lol okay i will have my app up momentarily(sorry for the bad spelling)

Name: Shadow Seal

Class: Rouge Specialization(Shadow)

Background: Shadow Seal was raised outside of the city and the tower, to two runaway Unicorns, his mother Dark Moon and his father Starry Night. He was raised to not use any magic and instead trained to be an assassin at a young age. Due to him being a unicorn he could not help but use his magic to make his training a little easier. As he became a colt, his mother was attacked by Dark spawn while getting food for the family and his father had ran to protect her. Both of them had been killed and Shadow Seal did not find out until he had went out to look for them only to see there mangled bodies on the ground. After burying them and packing his things, he began a life of solitude, often avoiding towns so he would not be caught. As he traveled he had continued his training, learning how to stay in the shadows as well as illusion magic, which helped him cover up the fact that he was a unicorn,he would disguise himself as a pegisus to protect himself. Running low on provisions, he went to the closest town, which was where the tower resided not to far from. As he walked through the town, he heard word of the "Grey Wardens" a group of ponies who were tasked with killing the dark spawn. Wanting nothing but revenge, Shadow Seal began to look for them and request to join them to rid the land of this evil...

Dragon age/MLP crossover?! Ok, less fan squeeing and more app writing.

Name: Shadow Flare (Pegasus)

Class: Rogue (Sleath based, i haven't played in ages so the specialisations arn't something i remember, the plot is)

Background: Assasin.

Abandoned by his parents at a young age, he was roped into working for many mercanary gangs. It was here he became know for his abilities, recon and fast attacks. Shadow is a silent pony, and lets his actions speak for him. Working alone in most cases, he takes the job and gets it done, bery few questions asked.

His traditional weapons are short daggers that allow him to fly in, do several swings then fly out. His wings are very powerful and allows him to be extremely agile and fast. His endurance is very weak, with long fights being his biggest weakness. Long range fighting, with a bow, is a no-go zone, and he uses the same attacks, making him predictible. He is confident, aware of what he can and cannot do. When the battle starts, Shadow likes to be the first one in, and the last one out. He has heard of the Blight, and knows that its exsistance could destory Equestia.

Name: Hoax

Class: Mage (Currently no specialization, but will become a Blood Mage when the knowledge is made available to her )

History: Hoax is a mage who has recently "acquired" her freedom from the Circle tower. In the tower, Hoax was a gifted apprentice - especially for her age. But her compulsive, single tracked desire to escape the Circle of magi led her into conflict with the stern Templars on multiple occasions. She was regularly imprisoned in the dungeons for months at a time for her inflammatory views and it was decided she was a risk to Thedas and would be put through the Rite of tranquility. Learning this, Hoax escaped the dungeons via a secret passage she accidently discovered and into the world.

Now, Hoax is an Apostate on the run. Her fear and hatred for the Templars is matched only by her coltish glee for the world in which she finds herself. she is an unstable mare, whose immaturity and lack of understanding for the world makes her a risk to those she meets and herself - it is only her brilliance and resourcefulness that has allowed her to evade capture thus far.

I'm getting quite the Anders vibe here.

Anyways, app accepted. Refer to my previous post for more details.
