Roleplay Type: Mane Roleplay

Name: Glass Glow

Sex: Male

Age: Stallion

Species: Unicorn

Eye colour: Emerald Green

Coat: Glass' coat is rather important to him. Thus the stallion keeps it smooth and pristine white, giving him a brilliant sheen.

Mane/Tail: Above all things, GG pays more attention to the details of his mane and tail. It's taken him years to grow them out long and straight, keeping the colours as bight as he can. Most if his mane and tail is a deep coal green, while the bangs and top of his tail is streaked with lime green, teal and blonde.

Physique: This stallion is no mare! Don't let his long legs, thin neck and body, and feminine face fool you. About the only way, aside from his voice, that you can tell he's a male, are his larger hooves with the fetlocks.

Residence: GG lives and loves his place in Canterlot

Occupation: Like his name partially suggests, he's a glass maker, specializing in blown glass, stained glass and, high end glass art. In addition to that, Glass owns and runs his own glass shop/gallery called "Heart of Glass".

Cutie Mark: Glass' cutie mark is rather complicated. Its an ornate multi-coloured glass fan, with a gold base that twists.

History: GG was born into an already full family. He is the youngest of four, an older brother and two twin sisters. His parents were both artists, in fact, his whole family consisted of artistic ponies. Glass' mother is a painter, and she paints the most beautiful landscapes of towns and rivers and cities, his father a writer. One that wrote of truth, freedom, beauty and love. His brother became a violinist and plays in an orchestra, and his sisters? Actresses. So it only came natural that Glass would find his calling in the world of arts. As a colt, Glass was very particular as to who he played with, only because, well... he didn't want to get dirty. So the pony stayed close to those who didn't romp and roll, but those who sat learning and socializing over tea. Sophisticated? Not likely, while the family did many arts, only one was a big name, and that was his mother. Ponies from all around came to see his mothers paintings and Glass admired that. He was close to his mother, every night they would spend brushing each others manes and talking about how one day he too would love a gallery of his own. "But a gallery of what, dear?" to which Glass' response was, "Something colourful, bright, and unique!"

Glass had tried many things while growing up, painting, singing, acting, writing, music, dance, but nothing really struck him or felt right. So in between the time of trying to find his artistic niche, GG excelled at most his curriculum in school. At the time he was considered a nerd, bookworm, and the go to pony for help on homework. Though it was never a bother to him, in fact, the recognition was just more to his already big ego and he soaked up the attention. His mother didn't help either, she loved to make it known that GG was a "prodigy", as she liked to call him, and he was always there with her to help out at her gallery when ever she had a really huge gathering of ponies. There, Glass gained more knowledge on just what to do when he would one day have his own, it was just a bit of a problem, at the fact that he still didn't know what his gallery would be.

It was maybe at the start of his early colt years when him and his mother were on an outing together. It was a rather fateful day, there was a small fair in Canterlot, and many ponies came to gather at the event, most to sell their hand made goods. One little stand was hot, and Glass trotted by innocently until he felt that heat. It was enough to make him stop and look at a small crowd of ponies. Curious, he broke away from his mother, pushing his way through the crowd until finally he came to the small gate that blocked off the crowd. GG's eyes widened as he watched a large Earth pony work with a long steel pole and on the tip was red hot molten glass. He carefully watched stallion work with the material as if it was water, and it didn't take long for the pony to put aside his work as a beautifully coloured vase. "That's it!" Glass said as he ran to his mother. "That's what I want to do!"

After telling his mother, she quietly agreed to help him, though she was worried about having him start so young, though she didn't stop him from dreaming. It was everyday that he ran over to watch the glass maker, and eventually, he caught the attention of the stallion and on one slow day, he called him in. It was a small conversation, but Glass told him it looked fun, but his mother would help him slowly to get what he needed to learn since he was so young. The stallion shook his head and told Glass he now had a job as his apprentice. Over joyed, Glass ran home and told his mum, (who was happy for him to a point) and he started the next day, (with mother supervision, of course.)

It was a slow process, he was learning about the different tools, the different temperatures, the different glass, the techniques, and every day his mother watched him grow and became more and more intrigued by the idea of making art with glass, eventually, she knew this was his calling in life. It came the day when her and Glass' tutor agreed to let him get his hooves dirty. Much to GG's delight (and disappointment) he was to make his first vase. It was that day his mother told him, as she watched him wiggle and squirm from the filth and soot, "Dirty hooves means better art. Lose the pride, and create the beauty." Meaning, suck it up and do it... politely of course. That's just what he did, and soon, Glass was starting his very first piece, though... it takes a lot of practice, and his first attempt was not a success. Vase after vase after vase, he broke half way through or ruined it some how and he only found himself getting angry, though patience was what his mother taught him, and her constant assurance and support helped him finally make his first finished vase... albeit, not a very pretty one. Either way, upon completion of it, his cutie mark appeared, and his motivation to do better and practice grew.

His mentor handed down tools he no longer used would eventually help Glass start his own little area with kiln, forge, and everything. Day after day, right after school and his homework, Glass was outside working away and practicing, and even learning to use his magic to mold, heat and cool the glass at just the right temperature. It wasn't long before he was making all kinds of things and decorating their home with his pieces. Eventually, his mother started showcasing his work inside her gallery, and before he knew it, he was getting praise and recognition. All through his years growing, GG focused on his glass work, and eventually moved out with the bits he saved from selling his work. It was a small home, though a two story, and soon he took out everything on the first floor and made it into his very own gallery. His family helped, painting the walls all white, making shelves, counters, and islands to put his things and his center piece was the ceiling, where they put his glass discs on top of a glass casing, with lights behind them, and lighting them up to reflect the coloured lights upon the floor. His best piece of work.

Now he lives atop the gallery, with his workshop in the back and sign above his front door. Still, even to this day as a grown stallion, he talks to his mentor and teacher and together they talk about skill, technique and recent works. Currently, Glass Glow is rather happy and still giggles at the convenience of his name and job, and all this time he thought it was just his obsession with his reflection in glass... well... that could still be accurate~

Character Summary: Since he could trot, Glass has been all about image. In fact, he's more obsessed with himself then anything else! He's vain, by the very definition, but just because he is vain, doesn't mean he's unpleasant to be around. Just sometimes insufferable. While he will often gripe about dust upon his coat, or a strand of mane falling out of place, Glass is actually very nice. He can give helpful advice, when he wants, he can care for others, when he wants, he can be giving, when he wants, and he can be fun, when he wants. Its all about how HE wants to act, despite how you may feel, though his selfishness can be masked or hidden with that charming smile and smooth voice. Glass Glow is very bright, smart and quick on his hooves, and often can spout off intelligent quips or facts that would shock most, and sadly he knows he's smart, but refrains from showing much of said intellectual thoughts.

Even though Glass can be a pain in the flank, deep down, he's kind and very loyal, and he lets his heart get the best of him, often sucking up his own needs to help those who are his closest friends. It may not seem like it, but Glass isn't a pony who likes to see others upset or down, and he will try his best to make someponies day a little brighter, some times with a beautiful piece of glass art. His work is the one thing he isn't all that selfish with. While most artists who are prideful of their work and display it, but never share it, all of Glass' works are up for sale, as long as the piece moves you and invokes some kind of emotion. He won't sell if he knows his work would just collect dust and not be admired, for in his eyes, its very disrespectful.

He's a bit of a drama queen, over dramatizing a lot of things, making a situation seem worse then it actually is, or being overly excited over one thing. This mostly shows when he works. In the back of his shop, Glass Glow has been known to laugh, cry, sweat, and bleed due to his work, and often times what he feels is portrayed through that one piece he was working on. Despite his obsession with his looks, working in back means he forgets his obsession and allows himself to get dirty. After all, he works in a filthy environment, he's gotta get his hooves a little messy, but his reasoning is "A little pride lost, and a better piece of art." With his art, Glass is known for his liking towards octopi and slugs, and he often makes many glass octopi and slugs to show appreciation to the creatures, why? No one knows, not even him, but an octopus is on the store sign in the shape of a heart, among other things in his shop.

I really like this character!

The only things I noticed were a few misspells but I'm sure you'll get that in editing [i assumed you are still currently because of the brackets]

I had one question about his mane/tail. Are they naturally multicoloured or does he dye them?

Ok, caught this one before it was archived.

When this app is ready for review, just change the label from WIP to "Ready" and I'll gladly look it over!

i'm used to my forums where i stashed things at the click of a button.

not sure how this forum works behind the scenes.

guess i should have just changed the app from the start.

thank you for your patients, Mojo!

i appreciate it! <3

Ok, now that this app's ready, I must say that overall, this app is GREAT!

All of the required fields are filled and you have given much detail in the History and Character Summary sections!

I have read through them several times, and unless I'm missing it, I'm not seeing a details cutie mark story.

You did describe the cutie mark, but if you could expand on how he got it, that'd be great!

:D :D :D

It's in the fifth paragraph. Should I just take that out and move it to the cutie mark section?

Iunno, I'm so ocd about having the cutie mark story in the history since having it in the cutie mark section oddly breaks up the said history, least to me. Maybe its just me and how easitly confused and how complicated my head makes things. If you wish, I can move things around.

Hi, Icy! I just reviewed your application for final approval. I like your character -- he's unique, I see plenty of personality about him, and I think a glass artist pony is something that hasn't been explored before. On top of this, the application is written and presented well.

I do have one problem, however. The video showcasing his "voice" needs to go. If you'd like, you can pull out the video and give a worded description of what you imagine his voice to be like. I am asking this because it may be confusing for other players to see a video embedded in your application with Transformers content. We like to preserve a certain modicum of illusion that this is, in fact, a roleplay for My Little Pony, and even though your intent is to give us an idea of what Glass' voice may be like, the content you're drawing from pulls focus away from what really matters: building this character for a FiM-centric roleplay.

Once that is done, please reply and I will provide this application with a stamp. Thankies!

Why can't I make good characters like this?

Is it because I don't like typing long paragraphs?

Is it because my imagination isn't good?

Is it because I just don't try hard enouph?

Probably all 3

This may not be the place for this -- but we do have an entire team of volunteers that specialize in helping you design good characters! Feel free to ask any of us for help.
