A Tournament of Magic?! What is a Tournament of Magic, you may ask? Well, back in ye ole Classical Era, the Magic Guild of Canterlot hosted a biannual competition inviting wizards, mages, and sorcerers from across the land to prove their mettle. Such competitors engaged in magic duels: one-versus-one contests of magical one upmanship. Whoever dazzled audiences the most with either an epic display of power, a faultless illusion, or an alchemical miracle earned victory in a duel. Each round of duels, contestants were eliminated until only one remained to be crowned as Champion.

 

These grand tourneys disappeared hundreds of moons ago however, along with the Magic Guild itself... until now. The Magic Guild of old has been reborn once more, and one of the first items on its agenda is the restoration of the Tournament of Magic. Although the march of technology has done much to displace the importance of magic wielding in daily life, there is still nothing like two magicians dueling one another.....

WHO CAN SIGN UP?

Anyone with any sort of magical gift. Spellcasting, stage tricks, potion brewing, magitech gadgeteering; you name it! The right to use a cast character is determined on a first-come, first-serve basis.

 

HOW DUELS ARE ARRANGED

Characters who are signed up are put into a championship bracket by the judges, which determines the opponents that character will face throughout the Tourney. For this to be a dynamic Tourney, we need at least eight competitors.

 

QUALIFYING ROUND

If anywhere between 9-15 characters are signed up for the Tourney, we’ll mandate that competitors make one post in a Qualifying Round topic, which will be kept open for one week. This post should have your character performing any spell or other impressive task. Based on the quality of these qualifying posts, the judges will then determine who gets to move on to Round One.

 

If 16 characters are signed-up, we will forgo the Qualifying Round. We will not accept any more sign-ups after 16.

 

HOW MAGIC DUELS OCCUR

1. The judges will be responsible for creating each Magic Duel thread. Once posted, contestants have one week in which to post in their assigned thread.
2. Each roleplayer makes an introduction post for their character before the actual Duel commences.
3. After the introduction phase, the goal of each character is to magically one-up their opponent by any means possible... EXCEPT by inflicting physical injury.
4. When the week ends, Duel topics will be locked, and the judges will determine the winners. Judges are to select winners based on various factors like post quality, plausibility of magic used, and etc. Once the results are posted, the judges will begin the next round of Duels.
5. For the Final Round which decides the Champion, a special two weeks will be granted once the topic is posted by the judges.

Magic: He has basic magic that he has honed a bit, such as levitation, but he also has lightning magic, just enough to start machines or stun a pony. He also works heavily in the fields of chemistry/potion making as well as engineering.

Why not add her to the mix. 

 

Fire Heart can create and manipulate fire, whether it is creating a fire shield, fireballs, or even giving herself fiery wings (decorative only)! Her goal at this tournament would be to not only show what she can do, but overcome her fear of losing control of her potentially dangerous magic.

Chipper here is a specialist in necromancy and dark magic, with a bit of alchemy thrown into the mix.  This includes the raising of small animals, manipulation and ensorcellment of the same, a few blood-rites (which I will totally understand if they are forbidden), along with some dark purple fire and potions of varying levels of nastiness.  Service delivered with a smile!

Magic: With magic ability leveling even the Princess of Friendship's, Starlight specializes in changing/taking away the cutie mark of somepony.  Her basic spells (telekinesis, magical barriers, magic blasts, etc) have been perfected to precision-to the point of self-levitation and other seemingly impossible feats.  She is adept at learning and being able to alter spells for her own accord-and made a relatively unknown breakthrough (because nopony would remember from a few timelines ago save for Twilight)-in time travel.  With all the magic up her sleeve:  this mare ain't somepony you want to challenge~

Hmmmmm, seeing that not enough users have signed-up for the Tourney (I needed a total of 8), I'm putting all further preparations on indefinite hiatus. Thank you to everyone that expressed interest in this concept; hopefully we can make this work at a later date.
