Name: Swiss Medley ("Swiss")

Gender: Male

Age: Young Adult

Species: Earth Pony

Pelt Color: Cream

Mane/Tail Color & Style: Chocolate brown with thick, round curls.

Eye Color: Emerald Green

Cutie Mark: A chocolate swiss roll with a swirl of cream in the middle and a cherry on top with one leaf.

(Example, but w/o paper.)

Physique: Petite with effeminate features.

(Smaller than average males. About the size and facial structure of a female.)

Residence: Trottingham

Occupation: Pâtissière (Pastry Chef, which also makes candy.)

Hobbies: Writing (poetry) singing, composing and playing music (violin, harp).

Motivation: Finding the perfect taste, texture and presentation for sweets, expressing himself and enjoying life.

He also wants Equestria to be a more beautiful and cultural place. He's somewhat decadent, though not entirely selfish; he's happy to see other people enjoying the things he makes.

Likes: Beautiful things, fragrances, sweets, flowers, art, music, poetry, luxury, comfort, being pampered.

Dislikes: Being a leader, expectations, damsels in distress, hard work, sour and spicy food,

having his appearance ruined or insulted, being made fun of, picked on, or anything ego-damaging.

Character Summary:

Modest and mannerly at a first glance. He doesn't like to fight and even seems to place himself below others.

Swiss appears sweet and generous, since inheriting his father's fortune.

Often giving roses and other gifts to ponies he meets for the first time.

Doing so as an introduction; out of chivalry and courtesy.

Not one to flirt, he prefers to be thought of as a gentleman.

During a civil argument he tries to be diplomatic and won't walk away. A physical fight is another thing, though..

He's soft spoken, but he's never afraid to speak his mind. Even if it gets him into trouble.

Despite his attempts to appear humble, he's actually quite self-centered. Vain, needy and unadaptive at times.

Deep down, he is a timid pony. Even a coward. He's first to call a bluff, but also first to run from danger.

Since he's not used to being depended on, he's easily intimidated. He hates being a leader in any way.

Swiss lives with his father and their servants in a small manor on the edge of Trottingham.

He knows little about the world and the various creatures that inhabit it, because he lived a sheltered life.

From time to time he's visited Canterlot and Ponyville by carriage; or stopped by to see the scenery

of the Great Nimbusgait Lakes and Whitetail Wood for inspiration for his hobbies or for relaxation.

He realized he wanted to make sweets when he saw Sugarcube Corner in Ponyville.

Swiss immediately asked his personal chef to teach him and got him started on earning his cutie mark.

He has always liked swirly and curvy shapes, which is why Swiss curls his mane regularly.

For this same reason he decided to try making a swiss roll, out of all of the recipes.

When it was finished it had come out perfectly and he even got his cutie mark.

Swiss enjoys working in a calm atmosphere, only working for fun.

His father's income is more than enough to live on, so his jobs are all part-time hobbies.

Mainly he works as a Pâtissière, because he enjoys the taste and cuteness of sweets.

For the same reason of artistic expression he has a part-time job at the florist.

Arranging flowers, but leaving the dirty work up to gardeners.

Both of his jobs give him the chance to make gifts for other ponies.

At home he dislikes studying, but does some research when he's writing. He hasn't published anything, but likes

writing poetry and composing music in his free time. He uses a feather quill and ink on parchment for writing.

Playing string instruments such as the harp and violin, singing and painting are his other hobbies.

Preferring to sing and play when he's alone, not many know of this talent except for him.

He doesn't make friends easily, but he doesn't like being alone. In fact, Swiss can be somewhat monophobic;

scared when left alone somewhere unfamiliar. Even having servants and a rich father, he was lonely as a colt.

Which is why he attempts to make gifts with his jobs and hobbies, in hopes of befriending other ponies.

Though he likes romanticism in art, poetry and novels; he's too shy and effeminate to find a mate.

He dislikes the typical expectations of male ponies and isn't just incapable of being physically strong, he refuses to.

Hypocritically, he doesn't find effeminate or weak female ponies attractive.

In fact, he's more than a bit annoyed by and jealous of the typical damsels in distress..

Swiss's father works at the Kingdom of Canterlot.

It's currently unknown what type of work his father does or has done. The only other ponies who live in his

manor are servants, some including unicorns for their ability to move things with ease.

When Swiss was a colt and was too young to stay home alone, his father would let him

visit his cousin Cinnabon at her summer house in Coralwood Corral when he made business trips.

I know you're still working on this, just had to pop in and say REALLY GOOD JOB at using member effort and jotting down all your ideas to get an extra boost during the character concept. I love love love seeing people work together like this. C:

GOOD LUCK, I'll read more officially/give tid bits tomorrow after my trip!

Thank you, I'm happy to see I did something right; as I've never joined a site like this before.^^

Any mod or member is free to help me out. I changed the thread title to asking for help too.

I wanted him to be a new job/talent that the community would like or that isn't used yet;

though I did see some similar apps about music, sweets and even writing. So it can even be something different.

Thanks, have fun on your trip Ashi. :)

Not sure if I'm allowed to post here . . . but can I advise against simply calling him "Medley" there is already a well-known vintage pony by that name. (she's a green pegasus with music notes as her cutie mark)

You are, as I said "any mod or member". :3

Exactly why I noted preferring his name have 2 words, my brother told me about that character as well.

I don't exactly intend to use it, but it's an idea for part of a name; or an example of sounds/meanings I like.

First I'd like to point out that everything looks amazing so far. I almost feel ashamed to put my own character up in comparison. Maybe I'll polish my own more before submitting it. Second you might want to reformat your submission. I'd hate to see any of this go to waste but there was a fairly clear outline in the Application Form thread. Maybe you can use what you have to fill in the essentials and include this all under 'Character Summary'.

Other than that I think I have a few ideas that I can throw into the ring. For one thing, I look at the picture and think, 'that pony would make delicious chocolates'. Maybe its the color scheme or maybe I'm just hungry but I think it offers some interesting ideas revolving around sweets and chocolatiers. For one thing sweets are a pretty posh thing so if you wanted to have your ponies talents (or perhaps just their current fancy) be candy related. Or you could use it for names if you're looking for something androgynous/effeminate names like 'Coco Swirl' or Chocolate Medley' might fit. As for the cutie mark I'd decide on that last during the planing for my own pony it changed from a pickaxe, to a gemstone, and eventually a rock.

As for the level of his talents it seems fine though he seems to almost be too acomplished at a young age. Its probably fine but if it were me I would either scale back what he did as a young colt or mention that he got his mark at an later age. Though maybe if he was being assisted in these tasks it might be more understandable.

Instruments I'm pretty sure are available though they might be difficult to use or require modification. I'm sure someone of his social class could find a way. I wouldn't worry too much about the family unless they would be exceptionally famous or something. You may want to consider if they're a Earth Pony, Pegasus, or Unicorn. Canterlot is mostly made up of Unicorns though someone who works directly with the court might also live nearby. Alternately you could use Trottingham, its very posh but a far number of the residents are snobs. You can check it out on The Eastern Map.

Also don't worry about your character being rounded. Its almost never a bad thing for a character to have a wide variety of interests. I think the thing about Ponies though is they have one exceptional trait that really stands out. They seem to have one word that describes them on the surface. The vibe I'm getting from your pony is 'Poised', as in composed and elegant even when under pressure.

All in all I think you have an amazing character and are selling yourself short. It's great that you're open to ideas and I'm sure your character will come out great in the end.

Just checking. :P

I like the names "Chocolate Medley" and "Creme deCocoa" as well as the pastry chef idea. Perhaps he could have some sort of chocolate pastry, with a music note garnish on top as a cutie mark.

Thanks for all of the ideas so far. ^^ Although I'm not a fan of "de" in names, for some reason..

I'll probably be picky but come up with a name eventually, even if I have to research.

It seems a chocolatier pony is in order. XD

Which is fine because I like sweets and the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I will probably change his cutie mark to some chocolate/sweet related item.

Also, this goes for how he got his cutie mark. I admit the idea was overdone because I was indecisive.

Suggestions for cutie mark, how he got it and name, as well as anything else is still up for discussion.

Other than that I'll work on them myself and fix up the app until it's ready.

First of all, thank you for your help and compliments.

Secondly, reformat my submission? As in take out the separate sections under character summary?

(Ex. (Personality: Pros) down until (Family)?)

I'l remove the brown notes once my WiP is complete, if that's what you meant.

I did copy the exact application form, though. It has everything, I just sectioned character summary.

The app will be shorter and unsectioned when I post it. Sections just help me develop.

Another thing, I chose Canterlot because I don't know anything about most of the map..

Now that I've read about them, I agree he should live in Trottingham.

Maybe traveling to Canterlot by carriage because well.. I like carriages. XD

I liked the name Hoofington better, but that's more of a sailor/traveler town.

Though a name with "ham" in it isn't exactly to my liking.. (Maybe not his either.)

A name is a name and I know where the suffix originated, so it's fine.

Thinking of leaving family out, unless someone wants to use the role or it helps flesh out his background.

Originally I made up some family, for the reason to have a rich upbringing and residence.

Thanks for the ideas, though I'm not sure if I'd want to name him after a food;

like Chocolate Soufflé or Swiss Roll. Since, I'm sure the food exists in Equestria too..

Bakewell might be giving away his cutie mark too easily..

Stud Muffin made me laugh, but is the opposite of his personality; if you read his app.

Would be a funny irony. XD Though I'd prefer something more fancy.

Really want to use Medley probably, because I'm thinking he'll assume music is his calling

before he learns about baking being an art form. So maybe not something too obvious..

Medley, meaning assortment and seeing as they have assortments of pastries/cakes on displays.

I have some ideas, but I may take some time to think clearly or get feed back before deciding.

Kind of tired..

Swiss Medley

Cream / Creme Medley

Choco / Chocolat / Chocolate Medley

I made an attempt at a new cutie mark btw.

I may use the word Swirl or Swiss in his name because it looks like one of these.

CutRollCakeChocolate2.jpg

I did two versions: Cutie mark with the cherry & without the cherry.

Let me know what you guys think.

I'll consider Medley Swirl, though the name doesn't make much sense imo. An assortment of swirls.

I don't really want it to be Hershey either, mostly because it's a company name. Though a good idea.

I've been busy, so I'll probably pick one when I have more time to focus on it.

Feel free to keep posting ideas, sorry if I'm being picky. It doesn't have to be Medley either.

Cocoa Swirl

Swiss Chip (or Chip Swiss, but personally I like it the first way, rolls off the tongue better)

Fudge Swirl

Cocoa Ganache

Fudge Fondant

For some reason I really like Chip, but there isn't much that rolls off the tongue right with Chip.

Also, when apps are back, I'm planning on joining my unicorn Cinnabon Swirl (pictured in my doodle thread), she's a food critic, and a unicorn, but if you'd like to tie her into your story somehow (distant relations?) that might be fun.

Ah I just saw her pic, she looks very mature and chic. ^^ I could see them being relatives or distant relatives.

I'm not sure of his name yet, but if I choose Swirl as the second part I'll definitely consider this.

She has dark brown hair? Though the fact it's so straight, either she straightens it or she's a distant relative.

Something like a sister, ect. would probably have a curlier mane like he does.

Then again, my pony may curl it himself. XD

Though I'm not sure if mane style and color have anything to do with it.. as Applejack's family seemed varied.

Let me know if you have any ideas or story-related ideas about the relation.

So far I think cousins might be okay.

I have a cousin (I currently live with) and have been friends since we were young.

So it can be as close as a sister at times. Depending on her age, aunt and other relations are acceptable too.
