Roleplay Type: Crossovers (Past)

Name: Sparkseeker (the Sightless)

Sex: Male

Age: Stallion (Likely the equivalent of mid 20s)

Species: Unicorn

Eye Color: Sparkseeker's irises and pupils are a glazed silver, due to being blind.

Coat Color: Moss Green

Mane: As per the code of wizards at the time, Sparkseeker shaved much of his mane, leaving only a small crop of hair up front, which he probably would have shaven back if he could see, so it does not get in his eyes. His mane has a color similar to that of a dulled silver or a stone.

Tail: His tail has been shaven down to a small tuft which is otherwise invisible underneath his cloak.

Physique: Despite the fact that he is normally-sized for a pony, he is a bit on the thin side, due to lack of an appetite, as well as the tendency to lock himself in his chambers for days, sometimes weeks on end.

Cutie Mark: Sparkseeker's cutie mark is often depicted in historical records of his time as an ornately-shaped lightning bolt of some kind, but is depicted in historical books in other forms as well, such as an eight-pointed star, a wisard's cap, etc.

Origin/Residence: It is unknown exactly where Sparkseeker was born, but while historical contexts make very clear that he had a study room in one of Canterlot Castle's towers, it is even more clear from inference that he was more at-home in the Everfree Forest, where his master, Whitewood the Kind, trained him.

Occupation: During the Late Classical Era, Sparkseeker was trained to be one of the Mages of the Canterlot Royal Court, which was an alliance of Unicorns, Pegasi, and Earth Ponies, who dedicated their lives to the finding of artifacts deemed valuable to the kingdom of Canterlot, as well as serving as personal assistants and guards to the royals. Sparkseeker, however, was also regarded as a very ambitious adventurer.

Motivation: Sparkseeker has been blind for his entire life, since his birth. Though he has learned to do without, he secretly yearns to study the secrets of the world, and one day concoct a spell that will give him the sight he never had.

Likes:

- Nature

Character Summary

Sparkseeker the Sightless is a notable historical figure in the history of the Late Classical Era. Though a few texts claim that Sparkseeker was self-taught, the majority of the existing historical documents agree that Sparkseeker was taught by Whitewood the Kind, who was in turn pupil to the incredibly famous Clover the Clever. Not much is known about Whitewood, however many accounts say that Whitewood was actually a deer; one of the last in a race called the Ruebuck, who were able to use their antlers to tap into the powers of nature and use magic. Scrolls and other second-hand accounts (Neither Sparkseeker nor Whitewood kept personal journals, though Whitewood wrote many potion recipes, and Sparkseeker cataloged any spell he happened to discover) never go any further back than when Whitewood began to train Sparkseeker in the ways of magic. Supposedly feeling pity for the lost child, Whitewood trained Sparkseeker in the Everfree Forest, where he learned how to read the auras of things in place of seeing, the art of potions (which Sparkseeker never took a liking to), and the art of magic in combat. Through these, Sparkseeker began to grow a seldom-seen appreciation for the otherwise malicious natural world.

Several years later, Whitewood led Sparkseeker to Canterlot, where he was quickly accpeted into the Royal Court of Canterlot. Whitewood only saw him off, then disappeared into the forest. Records of Whitewood come to a dead halt there. To this day, historians are still investigating what may have become of this mysterious deer. Sparkseeker did however go on to expand upon Starswirl the Bearded and Clover the Clever's research and findings. He constantly pushed the royal families to allow him to enter the Outlands so that he may visit the land of his ancestors, but this was considered forbidden territory, and so his proposal was rejected numerous times. However, with the help of several allies who supported his journey, Sparkseeker and company set off on a journey to the Outlands on their own.

When they returned after three years, They were all arrested, tried, and found guilty of high treason as well as personal betrayal to the Sovereign of Canterlot. Though a few of his allies managed to go into hiding and escaped this punishment, many were exiled from Equestria itself, and Sparkseeker was to serve a life sentence in Canterlot Castle's dungeon, which he did for about five years, before making a daring escape, which nearly resulted in his own death.

He left Canterlot and never went back. As a disgraced pony, many of his works in his tower were burned, so unfortunately most of his research was lost. Whether or not he did eventually find the spell he sought remains unknown, and just like his master, Sparkseeker was never seen or heard from again.

No texts exist that identify Sparkseeker's biological parents.

When he completed his training and made his oath to find the spell that would restore his vision, he supposedly acquired his cutie mark at that very moment.

According to journals kept by his allies, Sparkseeker was seen as a bit smug, despite the fact that his face was almost always using his usual grimace. He enjoyed planning ahead, and while he was very tolerant of non-ponies, he was rather impatient with other earth ponies, pegasi, or unicorns. He was a serious advocate of natural preservation, and in fact he is credited with having the Everfree Forest preserved as a natural reserve, though the validity this claim is not confirmed. He did not pay much attention to authority, and in fact is said to have looked down upon and even pitied the royal family, which made him very unpopular. In a working environment though (such as on the field,) he was very calm and careful, and rarely ever lost his focus, earning him his fame in magical expertise.

Summary: Raised in obscurity, Sparkseeker the Sightless was, as his name implies, a unicorn who was born blind, and sought to find a spell that would restore his sight to his defective eyes. For years he studied, but when that failed to produce the spell he was looking for, he went to the Outlands, against the Sovereign's wishes. When he returned, he was deemed disgraced and most of his research was burned, therefore lost. As for Sparkseeker himself, he left Canterlot and was never seen or heard from again.

Well, I personally don't usually critique an Application until it's marked [Final]. I think some of the staff may skip over [WIP]'s as well. [WIP] characters are still being worked on, so it's kinda hard to say what to change, add, edit, or update, because we don't know what you have planned for the character overall. However, you're welcome to wait for feedback from users or staff. :)

It seems a very good story, I like the idea, and the historical method it's presented - main problem with using it as an RP character, though, even in crossover - is that you've already listed the ending of his story. This doesn't preclude you from being able to RP ... but it does shackle you a little, and makes it hard for others to know where they're fitting into this tale.
