Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Limelight

Sex: Colt

Age: Stallion

Species: Unicorn

Eye Color: Lime Green

Coat Color: A Lucid, flowing silver that glimmers when shone on by focused light.

Mane/Tail/Markings Color/Style: His hair is done up with the aid of Canterlot Cosmetic products as his tail is equally stylized. He goes for the Wild look, but with a natural tone. His purple haired coloring however is entirely natural, as is the rest of him. He is a firm beleiver of the statement that "The eyes are the gateway to the soul" Which is why he has had a coordinated outfit made to accent his lime colored irises, as his black watch also draws balance and prominence to his pupils, which are both of a pitch black color. Although he was never an absolute diva for fashion, he never hesitates to ask for any style tips from Canterlot's finest; or to aid in costume design for his shows.

Physique: Above average height, he is by no means a star athlete, however, years of performing curtain cues and moving heavy props have caused him to become well toned and defined.

Cutie Mark: A Stagelight

Origin/Residence: Canterlot, he also resides in multiple rented spaces throughout equestria depending on his needs.

Occupation: Theatre Owner, Playwright, Composer, Dancer, Talent agent, and Director. He is one of the biggest names in Broadmane.

Motivation: After becoming a dominant musical performer during his younger days, Limelight decided it would be best to use his talents to bring other ponies into the stardom they have the right to earn. He has also been privately comissioned by the Court of Canterlot to write out musical scores for his home kingdom.

Dislikes: (optional)When other ponies heckle his younger sister Stagefright (Application will be filled in later), when he is let down by ponies riding off of his name, looking like a tourist, being/becoming bored, and having his time wasted (i.e. The watch on his front hoof). Running out of coffee or tea.

Character Summary: Being born born in Canterlot, Limelight has always been right in the mix of things. From a young age he was readily schooled within the musical arts and other higher forms of education. His parents doing there best to impose as many new exciting prospects onto him as possible. Though, he was always tapping his foot, humming a tune, speaking out whenever given the chance, and being what other ponies call "An eccentric goofball". After coming to the realization that he was one of the last ponies in his class to obtain his cutie mark, Limelight pondered long and hard over the things he did best: untill it hit him right in the face, making music! He had never actually writeen a full fledged song before, so he figured that he didn't have anything to lose. After hours of sitting infront of a piano, writing melodies, transposing chords, and readjusting tempo; he had done it. Though, he was troubled, for after writing his first musical number his cutie mark still had yet to become visible. Even though it was a piece suited for a pony with his own vocal qualities.

Distraught by his failure to succeed in one aspect of his life. He tried another. At that time, exposing himself was all he could think about, getting ponies to like him, getting the fillies to chase after him, and becoming a household name within the canterlot commons. To help accomplish this, he would often visit boutiques and salons in an effort to approve his appearance as much as possible. He also trained himself to be able to manipulate instruments, lighting, and to be able to write music with his Unicorn magic. Although he is capable of many other things, he enjoys the task of doing physical labor, and will often use his body rather than magic just for the sake of exercise. After doing all of this and having no success in obtaining his Cutie Mark, the young pony finally decided to sit down and write out his first real show. He was absolutely certain that this would be the final push he needed to get his mark. Taking his account of his own personal distress, his fear of never being seen, and his newfound love of hair products; Limelight composed an upbeat pop musical tsarring the delemmas of a troubled young (and rather uncombly) mare, trying to earn her own fame and take the man she always dreamed of. With several suggestions from his favorite stylist, Limelight fially decided on calling the show "Manespray".

When his first musical was completed, not only did his cutie mark appear, but he also acchieved the fame he had so long been wanting, as in Canterlot, slower, classical music was normally standard. So his peppy and upbeat musical quickly drew the masses. With crowd favorites including songs like "You can't stop the Hoof", "Good Morning Baltimare", and "Mama, I'm a big pony now".

Limelight is also a professional dancer, having taken many years of training from Canterlot's best. He is extremely light on foot, and choreographs the majority of his own shows. The Stallion is also known for his ability to modify his own voice, whether he's singing, shouting, or speaking. Generally it only consists of general pitch changing, with the addition or subtraction of an accent. Though, he has several voices memorized to be use at his disposal, as he is an actor, and has a variety of characters in which he's played.

After reaching his goal, Limelight felt... bored? As if he already had the means of acchieving anything he could want within the Canterlot Community. His Musical Royalties were always coming in the mail, meaning he never had to work to keep his paycheck coming in. Fans paraded him with gestures of affection hoping to become his partner, and often times he simply ignored them, which ironically made them even more dilligent. So what could possibly have been the case? Well, in an attempt to fix his boredom, Limelight decided to go watch one of his shows being performed at a Filly School within Canterlot. His younger sister was aiding the show backstage by being a stage manager, so he figured he wouldn't have anything to lose by going to see an amatuer show his favorite little fily was in! It was there when he decided that he would want to help project younger ponies into the world of Show Business after noticing the talent of several of the young fillys.

Limelight now at the moment runs his own agency, in which he has signed several young ponies to be represented by him. Doing Model shows within Manehatten and Canterlot, and having them privately audition for other shows on Broadmane. He does this free of charge, for the personal joy of seeing other ponies rise to his own level. However, as several ponies can attest, if you would be so called to turn on Limelight, or try to hurt his reputation, you're musical career would be ruined. As he would make it a personal mission, to make sure you'd never work in showbiz again.

At the current time, the stallion is in the process of casting for a new musical, and plans on trying out new areas for holding auditions. His current stop, as proposed by his younger sister, and other denizen's of Canterlot... is Ponyville. Limelight himself decided that it would be nice to give a new talent pool a change. As he was used to giving casting calls within Canterlot and Manehatten. Going in between the two cities often became a bore to the stallion, as he was rather used to the same ponies who'd come to his auditions, some he figured would be much more talented "Accountants" anyway. He's incredibly hopeful that Ponyville will be just the thing he needs.

Personality: Limelight is rather odd but eccentrically gifted individual. He is known for being an individual whose mood swings in and out of tempo, largely depending on where he is, what he's doing, and how much coffee or tea he's had prior.

1: When he’s out on the town with his closer friends, he portrays a fairly accurate “Barney Stinson” from “How I met your mother”. He’s quick tongued, personable, a bit of a horn ball, and always is paying attention to how he looks. You will never, I repeat, NEVER Catch him out in public willingly without his vest. He feels being dressed up at all times to be an extremely important part of his lifestyle. I mean, why anypony would want to look “Alright” is absolutely beyond him.

2: During Rehearsals however, the fun spirited Limelight becomes all business. He is tight lipped, serious, poignant, terse, and will often revert back to his Canterlontian accent. He has developed a mental formula on how to get his actors do EXACTLY what he wants them to. He acts happy and excited during auditions and early rehearsals, as if no pony could do anything wrong, but then out of nowhere, he changes. This catches his cast off guard, and helps him truly weed out who can cope, and who can’t. This tactic of his is normally used exclusively on new casts, and ponies he’s never worked with before. It’s not done out of malice, he just knows that it works. He likes to plant seeds of jealousy and annoyance in his cast, as it makes them work harder. He’ll be often seen reprimanding the majority of a cast, but then going backstage to talk to several ponies about “How you’re doing an incredible job” He knows that he can’t leave them all hanging, so he allows his praise to become something fought over. This gets him results. Though, by the end of the show, when he’s finally had his way with his cast; Limelight will become a much nicer pony, giving compliments regularly, bringing free food, etc. This only occurs however when he finally gets what he wants from his actors. He’s not an absolutely terrible person.

3: When he’s on his own, or with his younger sister Stagefright, Limelight is a caring soul who is deeply in touch with how other ponies feel. He’s a very “Good Older Brother” Type of person, always being around to talk, always knowing what to say, and giving a smile/hug/noogie right when you need it. He’s a very calm and patient individual, who knows that ponies need there space. He even has a separate voice for this attitude, which in this form is extremely flowing, smooth, and relaxed. He enjoys a hot cup of tea and cupcakes in this attitude frequently, and is also known to partake in solo adventures of fine dining. He has a very “What happens… happens” kind of attitude and just prefers to let life happen as it’s meant to. This is also the attitude in which he’s most creative, and will typically be seen composing and such in. It isn’t advised to interrupt him though unless one of three things happens.

1: You’re his sister.

2: It’s a dire emergency.

3: You actually have something worthwhile to contribute.

Otherwise, you will be quickly reprimanded in his “Second” personality in such a way that you’d understand never to bother him again.

Spells: When it comes to magic. Limelight usually only uses it for levitation, amplification, or the manipulation of objects. He is able to lift heavy weights and props with only the force of his will, as he's gotten plenty of practice hauling around grand pianos and stagelights. He also is able to use his magic to amplify his own voice, whether it is by causing a megaphone to float near him, or by altering his sound directly. Normally the latter is only done in fits of rage or when he is trying to get ones attention. In terms of manipulation, Limelight is able to maneuver and play several instruments at the same time. He can organize books, pass out fliers, and style his hair without any form of difficulty. He also has the ability to teleport with "Reasonable" expertise. Though he is rather used to the strain of lifting heavy objects, he is most definantly NOT used to the strain caused by his amplification magic...... he has sometimes given himself blackouts, dizzyness, and rarely, even comas due to it's use.

Hello and Good Morning,

Your character description is very... descriptive! Good work on that.

Though, I do have a few questions about this application!

How did Spotlight first become interested in the musical arts, particularly the creation of musical plays? You do a very good job of describing his passion- but I can't help but wonder: why is it his passion? What inspired him to be the great musical artist he is today? Why did he decide to write a musical performance? Again, you describe his passion well; but I'd like to know why this is his passion, what inspires him, etc.

What drove him to specifically see a showing of young fillies performing a play? I understand that he was bored, but that is a fairly arbitrary thing to decide to do- is there any reason why he went to this particular performance?

Oh, and one more thing. You have a slight typo here:

his tail is eually stylized.

However, other than the questions I asked and that slight grammatical error, this is a wonderful application and I would enjoy to Role-play with this interesting character!

first off, I fixed the typo immediatly, thanks for the spot!

I also added an excerpt in the middle of the second paragraph to explain why he went to see the show, and become a talent agent follow suit.

I'm still thinking how to write out the answers to the WHY'S, I'll sleep on it ;)

Thank you very much for the input!

Hehe, yes, if you haven't noticed, the question "why" is possibly one of my favorite questions ever, that and "how". Great job on what you added about his sister being in the performance though; its little details like that that really can flesh out a character in amazing ways.

And you are very much welcome!

Hello and Good Morning! Your application has been improved a lot since I last read it, for sure. But, I still have a few questions.

I feel that you could put a few more details into the Cutie Mark story. The musical performance obviously must have been good- can you tell me more about it, maybe? It just seems a bit vague- particularly for a Cutie Mark story, which is arguably one of the most important moments in a pony's life.

Also, why Ponyville? I understand that it is a fairly important location in the show itself, but it is actually a rather small town and a bit of an arbitrary location.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding this sentence:

However, as several ponies can attest, if you would be so called to turn on Spotlight, you're musical career would be nigh ruined.

What exactly do you mean here? The structure is a bit odd to me.

Other than that this is a great application and I look forward to seeing your character in action ^^

Typo fixed & Ponyville explanation has been added, as well as a continued explanantion to the confusing phrase listed previously

Looks good so far, be sure to address my other questions as well! ^^

Although we seem to have encountered an issue- there is already another accepted character by the name of Spotlight. Now, this isn't too much of an issue, but you may wish to find a way to expand on the name to make it more unique.

Seeing as the other pony on this board with that name goes by the name of Spotlight is a Female Pegasus, compared to a Male Unicorn, do you think that the name similarity could be overlooked? I apologize, but I'm having a rather difficult time coming up with another name. As When planning this OC, their was Spotlight, and his sister Stagefright, as to whom I have spent several days thinking of a brother sister name having a "Ring" when both are said simultaneously. They were desinged around each other. Plus, his names already been mentioned in posts, as well, as even having a commisioned artwork made for him (My avatar). I'm not really trying to prove difficult.... this is just driving me bonkers -_-

Alright, you can keep the name. :)

It was just a suggestion, making sure you were aware that you aren't the only Spotlight.

Alright, so your back-story is really detailed. You did a really good job on it! But I still have a few more questions, this time on his actual personality.

We know a lot about the character's past and his passions and his motivations, but we don't actually know much on his personality yet. What is it like to interact with him? What does he think about other ponies? Does he get along well with others? What are some of his flaws/weaknesses? His backstory is fantastic, I am just curious on how he actually interacts with other ponies, if he is friendly, what other ponies generally think of him, and so on.

I will reply to this as quick as i can, as i am currently away from a computer, and typing that all out on phone would be monstrous. I actually thought about that earlier, and have been developing his character mentally, taking notes, writing down spells, quirks, traits, etc. I cant promise a definant date on this edition, but ill get it when i get it :)

Sounds good, just make sure to post here once you make the necessary edits so that I can review it one last time. :)

Hello Noctriix!

Since Chapien will be away for a while, I volunteered to take over assisting you on your app!

This is quite an extensive app, which is good!

I like details, and from what I've been reading, you did respond to each of Chapien's questions and I applaud you for this!

One thing that does concern me, the mention of a "Second" personality. Is this a true 'split' personality or was that a figure of speech to mean basically if you anger him, he can become rather nasty?

I need to know what you're thinking here, ok?

:D:D:D:D

Actually, I thought I had laid out his personality variants quite extensively.

He has 3 distinct personalities, Which are all listed in order separated by paragraph. How about this, I'll number them. So when it says "Personality number "?", you know just to look at that number.

Being that I said his "Second" personality, the reader is meant to look at the Personality that is listed after the Number 2.

Hopefully that helps youre understanding! :)

Ok, but here's the deal. Multiple personality ponies are not permitted in Mane RP. It would be difficult for other ponies to interact with a character like this. If a pony has 'mood swings', that could be alright but to say they have more than one personality is simply not consistant with the World of Equestria portrayed on the cartoon show. Multiple personalities are permitted in Crossover RP or Free-For-All RP (the rules in each of those are different) but not in Mane RP.

Since Spotlight is an actor, you could go the angle of mood swings rather than outright distinctively separate personalities. If he's the 'typical' actor, being high strung and moody would be part of who he is. OR, if you really want this char to have split personalities, you could app him as a Crossover char.

Hope this helps!

Though Mojo, is there any way you could link or quote the "Multi Personality" rule for me? I'm not trying to challenge you, but I just looked through the rule pages and was unable to find anything that says such a thing. I was just wondering if you could show me it for reference? :)

I figured I should ask this, generally people don't act the same way they do in public or with friends as they do, say, at work. Whenever I was giving Spotlight's 3 distinctive personalities, I wasn't really defining him as a bipolar (tripolar?) type of person. It's more more less describing him whenever he's "Working", "Having fun", or "Being Natural". As I can guarantee that no person is exactly the same for all three. He's not gonna be a high strung director when he's out with his friends, nor is he going to be a goofy goober when his sister is crying on his shoulder, or being a calm, relaxed pony when his actors screw up royally during rehearsal. However, if this still isn't enough explanation for you, I DO have a storyhook about his character that could very well interrmix all three. I just figured I'd just try to explain myself before going through and making the large amounts of edits.

Hi Noct! I can understand your frustration, so maybe I'll take a shot at clarifying why there is an issue with the personality/different modes thing, or whatever it is you'd like to call it. The World of Equestria roleplay is designed to be as close to the canon of FiM as possible, so we tend to avoid approving characters that stray too far from the original formula of the cartoon. That is not to say that the multiple personality disorder thing isn't a good idea, but it would be difficult to keep in flavor with the roleplay environment, and may be confusing for other players as well.

Since you've clarified that it's not a disorder, perhaps I may suggest that it would not be wise to shoe-horn your character into only having three personality descriptions? I believe your character should be much more complex than that, and the suggestion that he only has three different modes of personal operation seems limiting to me. However, we are not putting your character creation skills to scrutiny -- just making sure that the character you are presenting us with is a good match for the type of game that you're getting yourself into.

As everything is all clarified, if you feel your application is final, and your character does not have a personality disorder, we would be happy to move your application up for further review -- and hopefully -- approval.

All the best!

~ Rosie
