  1. Roleplay Type: Mane RP Name: Jack O'Lantern Sex: Male Age: Young Stallion Species: Kelpie Eye Color: Sea blue (#008C9E) Coat Color: Soft orange (#FF7E47) Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: His mane is generally unstyled and matches his eyes in colour. However, he leaves it at a long length and occasionally strands of kelp will be entwined with it after a swim. His tail is that of a shark: powerful, but streamlined. Physique: Not particularly athletic, but aerodynamic enough to swim without impediment. Cutie Mark: A carved face on a jack o' lantern. Origin/Residence: He grew up in the Kelpie City located near the Gallapocus Islands. As a stallion, he has relocated to a small town in the depths of the Great Nimbusgait Lakes Occupation: Jack O'Lantern runs a joke item shop on the very edge of the Nimbusgait Lakes. Motivation: To bring fright-based giggles to all of Equestria Likes: Nightmare Night, Scaring ponies, bad puns Dislikes: Taking a joke too far, overly-serious ponies, being treated as childish Character Summary: During his childhood, Jack O'Lantern had always shown a bit more than the natural mischievousness of the kelpies. He would always pull jokes on his friends, giving everypony a good laugh when they recovered from the initial shock of the prank. However, as much as he enjoyed his pranks, the young kelpie always felt as though there was something missing from his antics. The one thing that would make them perfect in his eyes. It was during the Nightmare Night celebrations that he realized what that component was. He had volunteered to be a part of the committee organizing the event and he took it as a perfect opportunity to place pranks around the festival grounds. In the spirit of the night of frights, he added some frightening aspects to his pranks. A manticore-like roar, a cockatrice shadow, Nightmare Moon, everything he could thing of. As he watched his pranks in action, the then-colt realized what he had been missing during that time: a bit of a fright. And so, Jack O'Lantern earned his cutie mark. When he did so, he told his parents that he wanted to move to the Heartland of Equestria to open a joke shop. As they had visited Equestria before, they reluctantly agreed, reminding their son to be on his best behaviour around land ponies. Though he couldn't promise it, he did agree to make an effort on such things. So, when he reached stallionhood, Jack O'Lantern travelled to the Nimbusgait Lakes and set up his joke shop. As a foal, Jack O'Lantern never particularly cared for the finer points of etiquette. However, even as a stallion, he maintains that such things are far too boring and would rather to play pranks rather than dot his 'I's and cross his 'T's. Though he may act rowdy around his friends, he can be rather philosophical when he is in a quiet mood. He is very aware of the fact that not everypony likes being scared and so he is very conscious of ensuring that none of his pranks go too far. He isn't afraid to put his hoof down when he sees somepony being treated unfairly and will immediately try to fix any damage his own jokes may have done. Jack O'Lantern works very hard to be sure that his talent doesn't hurt somepony, only gives them a laugh. Even though it's not his special talent, he does incorporate his pranking skills into creating jokes and visiting sad ponies to cheer them up. He's always cheerful and loves to talk about his latest prank. If he meets anypony who shares his enthusiasm, he'll quickly devise a double prank for the two to pull off. As a stallion, but still a young one, he is a bit immature and doesn't like to be too serious about life in general.
  2. Here's Neoniie! You all probably know I'm on there, but I figured I should post it in here anyways.
  3. Flux laughed quietly at Colton's suggestion. "Such a day filled with rememberance we're having." It was interesting that they were going to be frequenting two nostalgic locations in one day, but the unicorn didn't mind. They were good memories that would be recalled and even the strictly logical side of the scientist couldn't argue with the joy of reliving a time filled with joy. "That sounds like a wonderful idea," she said, making her agreement with the pegasus clear. "We should make haste, however. It is likely to be a busy day in Canterlot." The unicorn took in a refreshing breath of the chilly air that the day provided, just relishing in the moment while it lasted. She remembered a quote that she couldn't quite attribute, 'It's truly the small things in life that bring the most joy.' After a moment or two of silence, she took her weight back onto her own two hooves, moving away from Colton as she stood upright. She took a few steps forward before turning back to the white pegasus. "Shall we go?" However, as she asked, the surrounding snow caught the eye of the mare and sparked a small idea. Though it was a rather strange suggestion from the unicorn's perspective, she couldn't help but feel in a whimsical mood with the spirit of the holidays. With a silly little smile as her only warning to Colton, she gathered up a clump of snow up in a green aura and launched it toward the pegasus. "I suppose we have a bit of time, that is, if you're up to the challenge," she laughed. Tesla watched the bird's explanation with interest, his curiousity finally satisfied. He remembered that the bird and his master were not Canterlot native, so they would have little idea where the various shops in Canterlot were located. Even the ferret had a much more varied knowledge of the city than that of his owner, as he spent much more time roaming its streets. With a roll of the eyes, he returned a series of gestures that communicated a willingness to help him find the right sop. He also agreed not to mention Colton's laspe of memory to Flux, though he did have half a mind to do so. The ferret turned toward the north end on Canterlot and stepped a few paces forward, checking behind him to be sure that the bird had gotten his message.
  4. I had hoped I wouldn't need to use this thread, but it seems that I do. This isn't so much an absence as it is a decrease in activity, but it may well end up being an absense. My computer's OS is stored on a SSD. Unfortunately, it seems that the SSD has decided to break itself and, though my regular hardrive with actual files and such is fine, I can't start my computer with an OS. So, I've been grabbing as much time on my family's assorted computers as I can, but they've all got stuff they need to do as well. My replacement drive won't be arriving until the end of the week or so, meaning this will be a fairly long bit of time. However, after that, it'll be business as usual. So, my apologies to anypony who I was RPing with, but I shant vanish from the boards entirely.
  5. Flux trotted outside, saying with only a hint of teasing, "How gallant, Mr. Cloudkicker." Inwardly, she chided, How sappy. Honestly, you aren't some gooey-eyed filly. However, Flux dismissed the voice and drew the warmers that matched the red dress closer to herself as the chill of winter nipped at her coat. Then, she waited for Colton to close the door and enter the white expanse himself. Hearing the familiar 'click' of closing behind her, the unicorn walked slowly beside Colton. Though it sounded immensely cheesy and she would never admit it to herself, the unicorn wanted to spend as much time with her special somepony as possible, and not just because of social protocol on these matters. She also remembered the Garden with stunning clarity, memories coming back quickly the more she thought about their destination. It was strange how she remembered it clear as day, especially when her memory of events was not the best of her traits. Nonetheless, Colton's words brought her back to the current time. "Oh...uh...not at all. That sounds quite lovely." She smiled at Colton, leaning slightly into the similarly snow-coloured coat of her pegasus. Sappy, sappy~, sing-songed that frustrating mental voice. She merely viewed her actions as getting into the spirit of the holiday. After all, she didn't want her Hearts & Hooves Day with Colton to be disappointing to the pegasus. "Did you have anywhere in mind?" she asked. Flux wasn't in any particular hurry on this particular day. A chemical dissection of love poison could wait until tomorrow. Tesla, on the other hand, had no time to waste in following Sparks. It was an arduous task, since the streets of Canterlot were not the best place for a ferret to travel. So, he stuck to the tops of buildings and the spaces between roofs and exterior walling. There was no way her was going to lose sight of the sparrow until he knew what was going on. Turning a corner from which he had caught a glimpse of familiar plumage, Tesla stood face to face with a bird. He looked impatiently at the avian, non-verbally asking for an explanation to his strange behaviour.
  6. Flux noticed Chillwind's movement and his searching eyes motions as she passed him. She inclined her head toward him slightly, giving her silent thanks for his willingness to help. The unicorn wasn't particularly surprised that Tesla had wandered off, as he was wont to do, but in time that he had chosen was the element that puzzled her. A nocturnal hunter like Tesla would have no reason to bother himself with much activity during hours of light. In Tesla's case, this was why he tended to be rather cranky and disagreeable whilst ponies went about their business. A ferret as lazy as Tesla would have a very good reason to subject himself to any sort of excessive movement. She continued retracing her steps, glancing through the spaces in bookshelves to check for the brown body of her pet. The unicorn was so determined in her searching that she almost didn't hear Inkblot's words. "No need to ask forgiveness," she said immediately. "Nopony short of one bearing precognition could have anticipated such as thing. Do not blame yourself on this matter. The two are surely in no danger" Though she was reassuring Inkblot, the words her also directed at her growing concern about the events that had transpired. However, as she had no luck in the search so far, she called over to the two pegasi who searched in separate corner's of the bookshop. "Have you two discovered anything yet?"
  7. Flux blushed slightly at Colon's wide-eyed look. She had settled on a light red dress that bordered between pink and its darker counterpart. It was an older gift from her mother with the intention of her wearing it to some sort of charity dinner for the Astronomy Board that her mother was a part of. The unicorn had ended up staying late at the Library to research current griffon steam technology and the dress had been left in the dark recesses of the clock tower's basement. It seemed that today was the day that her mother's gift would get its day in the limelight. The unicorn hated dressing up, but she had done so regardless. After all, a repeatedly burned lab coat wasn't very seemly for pleasant company. She considered Colton's question, a list of all the locales in Canterlot running through her mind. There were so many possibilities for a destination that would be fitting for the holiday, but one stuck out in her mind. The Gardens of Canterlot Castle. It was located near the hedge maze, where she and Colton had shared that amazing flight and she knew that flowers and meaningful locations were traditional to the Hearts & Hooves Day customs. Combining the two seemed like sovling two forumlas in one calculation. "Well, I was thinking of the Canterlot Gardens. They are on the Castle Grounds, but the Princess opens them each year for the Hearts & Hooves Day festivities. Would that be agreeable?" Outside, the ferret was following the movements of the sparrow above. He lept from perch to perch on lampposts and tree branches. Tesla's interest had been piqued by the separation of the bird and his master and the ferret would not let his curiosity go unanswered. So, he continued after Sparks, hoping to learn what the bird's destination would in the end be.
  8. Flux looked up from her neatly stacked books with a surprised "Huh?" She looked around her in a wide circle, finding no sign of her ferret or the raven. Her first instinct was worry. Smaller mammals didn't usually get along very well with large birds, and Tesla was sarcastic enough to be aggravating even to the tamest of avians. However, she also knew that Tesla could handle himself, after all he did so each night he went out into the trees beyond the clock tower. Still, she would need to find the ferret before leaving. "Not to worry, I believe you are right. Perhaps I should retrace my path; that should give us some clue to where they have gone." Stepping backward from her place in front of the desk, she began to follow her hoofsteps in reverse order.
  9. I have created an ask blog for everypony's favourite scientist! Some answers will be written, others drawn, mostly depending on how much answering time I have. I'll be mostly using it as an excuse to practice my art abilities. So, get on over there and ask some questions!
  10. I suppose this will do. The unicorn stood in a pool of various articles of clothing, finally settling upon the one that she would be using. It wasn't exactly her preference to dress up for any occasion, but certain social protocols had to be observed. The first Hearts and Hooves day spent with a very special somepony was supposed to be a momentous event and so, there were certain courtesies to be observed. Quickly putting the attire on, Flux trotted over to the slightly broken mirror that hung on the opposing wall. It is rather festive, if nothing else, she thought. With a swish of her tail, Flux returned to her immaculately clean experimental area. She picked up a nearby bottle and continued to apply the adhesive substance, hoping to make the wrapping job seem less rushed. She noticed that the substance seemed to be much less fluid than when she had used it earlier, but such a trivial difference was not worth noting. She glanced around the room, letting her magic to the work for her. Flux sighed, realizing that Tesla had once again vanished from the basement room. He must be off for some sustenance. She turned back to her spellwork and quickly completed her wrapping-related spells. Only pausing to levitate the gift into her saddblebag, Flux took one last look at the worn walls of the clock tower and then ascended the staircase to meet Colton. Here we go. Now, Tesla on the other hand was lazing about in the white snow outside. His brown coat had been protecting him from the cold of the weather and the ferret saw no reason to get up anytime soon. However, he noticed a flapping of wings overhead that compelled him to open his eyes. The ferret found himself looking up at the familiar shape of Sparks the sparrow. With some slightly interest, he got to his paws and stared up expectantly at the bird.
  11. Hearts and Hooves Day, one that had little weight on the life of one scientist mare until recently. The day designated to the celebration of romance had always seemed a nuisance to the unicorn, as she would always be pulled away from her work by some familial event. However, this year was quite a different one. The unicorn had a pony with which to spend the day and it made the mare rather apprehensive. The social protocol for such an event was very unknown to the generally out-of-touch pony. So, she had come about a way that made the whole affair into a familiar situation. Taking the idea to view the day as an experiment of sorts, Quantum Flux did what any good scientist would before beginning a study, she researched the subject. The socio-historical archives of the Great Library of Canterlot proved quite useful in her search for knowledge. She learned about the customs and historical origin of the event, which would make for an interesting conversation in the mare's opinion. However, she still frittered about nervously as she quickly wrapped up the gift that she had obtained for her very special somepony. Tesla looked on with disinterest, finding no reason for the anxious behaviour of his master. However, the mare spoke disjointedly aloud to the ferret, hoping to organize the jumble of thoughts in her mind. “Completely irrational, you know what you should be doing...absolutely unprepared...too much adhesive...what if it's terrible...how did I even get into this whole thing anyway...” Noticing that she had only a few minutes before they were to meet in the upper floor of the clock tower, Flux hastily completed her wrapping and dashed over to her dismally disorganized living space. It was a stark contrast to the pristine nature of her scientific workspace, but the unicorn saw no reason to keep it in order. Until she needed it to be so, that is. Rummaging through her various lab coats and formal attire, she attempted to find the right outfit for the approaching event.
  12. "That would be a lovely opportunity," the unicorn replied, covering her excitement with her mannerly tone. In truth, this may have been the most fruitful visit to a book retailer in her life. A possible breakthrough in the theory that had plagued her thoughts since her first meeting with the concept and a pleasant conversation to boot. However, the stallion continued with their discussion and it piqued a name in the mind of the mare. "Though I was born in Fillydelphia, my fillyhood and brief extent of my marehood have been spent in Canterlot. I do believe I have heard of Lady Chrysanthemum, though it must have been quite a while ago now. I'm not quite the social connoisseur that my family tends to rear. However, you are quite correct on the matter of pegasi; Canterlot is primarily a unicorn city after all." Remembering suddenly that she was still carrying a stack of books with her magical energies, Flux voiced her intent to the stallion. "I nearly forgot, I should be purchasing these volumes. If you'll excuse me for a moment." With those words, Flux trotted over to the desk at which Inkblot sat writing away on his parchment. She placed them down with a slightly sound, ordering them neatly in a row for the pegasus to observe.
  13. Wrong Note listened as the colt's tone became more puzzled and somber. She could relate to his feelings somewhat, even if it wasn't the same situation that she had encountered. She thought back into her past, remembering a time shortly after her self-imposed banishment from Manehatten. As she was only barely an older filly, it was rather difficult for her to find any sort of means to earn her livelihood. So, she ended up taking several unfulfilling tasks to keep herself afloat in a world where nopony knew her name. It was a difficult time and she also wondered why she was forcing herself into such a position. It wasn't a perfect correlation by any stretch, but it did give her a sense of Survey's feelings about the matter. Trying to cheer the colt slightly, she gave him some words of encouragement. "I would not be completely confused, as new experiences should not leave you in the blues. Perhaps you will find that this is something that you enjoy, though it may not seem like a method you would employ. After all, I myself found a new interest, even if at first my choice seemed bleakest."
  14. Flux bowed in response, rather intimidated by the status of the stallion before her. She had read of the nomadic pegasi tribes in one of her old historical tomes, but she was unaware that such groups still existed in Equestria. She listened closely to his words, the excitement of this possible proof dulling slightly as new information and discussion came to light. "And I do not dispute such a philosophy," she agreed. "Knowledge that cannot be used is merely a fact gather dust, metaphorically speaking." The unicorn, for example, had very little knowledge of the exact workings of the pegasi weather systems, as it had no weight on the workings of her own life. Even her own knowledge of the arcane was rather lacking, as she did not posses the magical abilities for particularly complex spells. "Nevertheless, your son sounds like quite the interesting individual. Perhaps I will have the pleasure of meeting him someday."
  15. These aren't all inclusive notes on the characters so if these snag your attention, checking out their applications for more detail would be best. Character: Celia "Wrong Note" Andantino Gender/Age: Mare Species: Earth Pony Notes: Since Wrong Note has a curse that causes her to sing all of her words with...shall we say subpar abilities, it's a bit hard to find some RPs that she would fit into. She currently lives in Hoofington, but she's travelled before and I don't see why she wouldn't travel again. Character: Chocolate Tail Gender/Age: Stallion Species: Unicorn Notes: He's based in Stalliongrad, but his company has outposts all over Equestria. A new character, so I haven't place him in any RPs at the moment. Character: Mirage Gender/Age: Mare Species: Pegasus Notes: A desert-based weatherpony who hates the desert. Her two RPs are seemingly dead, so she's pretty much free for anything.
  16. These are amazing. And I'll be looking forward to your future Artstuffs.
  17. (OOC: Well, I'll put up something short to get the conversations rolling again. Let's get this RP back to alive-ness. ) Neon looked at each pony in turn, now knowing a bit more about each pony. They all seemed like rather cool ponies to the colt, but there was a question that hung at the edge of his mind. "Speaking of dreams, each of you must have one, right?" Though the colt couldn't exactly voice his own dream, it came to his mind regardless. It was vivid, more like a memory than an imagining to the colt. He would see himself dashing across the top of buildings, defeating villains to the cheers of adoring fans. He would be famous and most of all, able to help ponies in danger. Despite his superhero image, Nighthoof was quite a bit less effective in saving the day than Neon would like. He would learn one day, or at least he hoped, what his talent was and then the colt would know exactly what to do with his life. Until then, he was going to do his best as Nighthoof, even if his best was falling off of buildings half of the time.
  18. Did somepony say Aaaapleeossa? I've got a weather pegasus OC who'd definately be up for some adventure. I'll probably pop her into the 'Night of the Comet' if I get some time and a good idea.
  19. We have three topics on this in the Lore section that might give you a hand. Here's some links! Pony Technology Level Electricity In Equestria Griffon Technology Level Hope that helped you out!
  20. Flux listen with rapt attention to the stallion, almost squeaking with delight at his display of the ice-based abilities that his entire line apparently possessed. This was exactly what she had thought was the case with pegasi, as their magical potential was much easier to demonstrate, but having proof standing before her was still something that she could hardly believe. This could be it. The one peculiar case in pegasi genetics that you need. The exception to the rule, as such. She cleared her throat slightly, realizing that she probably wasn't giving off the best impression at that moment. "That is indeed quite a fascinating ability," she declared, reiterating her former speculation as fact. "One that certainly bears further examination, in my view." Then, the mare remembered she had not yet discovered the stallion's name. "Ahh, but where are my manners? I am Quantum Flux. And you are?"
  21. The ability to dance and make people awesome. Line-of-sight teleportation or the ability to manipulate materials made of the element carbon?
  22. (OOC: Sorry for posting out of order, but I didn't want to leave Valen hanging there.) Before the honey mare could answer, a new voice broke through the silence. With a nearly imperceptible start, Neon turned toward the pony who'd spoken. It was a light orange earth pony foal, shuffling about with some apprehension. Some air about the foal reminded him of an orange, not just his appearance. Neon decided that this was not the time to be analyzing the situation too deeply, he did far too much of that at school. He chuckled internally as he registered the word 'officer', it was the first time he'd been addressed like that. The colt had to admit, on a dark night his costume likely did resemble some sort of law officer. "Officer," he repeated, his inner chuckle escaping into the outside world slightly. "No, no, I'm not a member of the police force. I'm a vigilante of sorts. Nighthoof's the name, kiddo." Privately, Neon wondered why so few ponies seem to know who we was. Surely somepony must know of him, as he had been patrolling the streets for nearly a month now. Even though he tended to bungle up his attempted superheroics, he did manage to be competent once in a while. That's it, next time we go out on patrol, we've gotta do something big and become famous throughout Manehatten. It's gonna be so awesome!
  23. Ask and you will recieve. Finalized and ready for critique and evaluation.
  24. (As would I. I believe it is Centauri's turn in the post order, but I could be wrong.)
