  1. hi hi I'm perfectly capable of accepting a tie.
  2. hi hi I think the off season is cutting down on the liveliness just about everywhere, but I am always glad to see new arts You simply must share some of the details about how you made fly swatting twilight and twilight x fluttershy. I don't recognize brushwork technique at all.
  3. hi hi I suppose that might be why Fluttershy is such a weak flier? Unicorn vs Non-unicorn would be pretty easy, genetically speaking. There's quite a few examples in the real world of animals that variably have horns or not. Wings on the other hand... that'd actually be exceptionally hard. I'm not 100% on this, but you might be able to get away with it if you had an entirely separate Pegasus chromosome. (like how males have a unique Y chromosome) (I know english is a living language and all, and that people are allowed to use words for new meanings, but it still drives me up the wall sometimes. ) You're very right BrianBlackberry, the real life genetic complexity boggles the mind. I don't mind the coin flip method, though the recessive method allows for two identical parents to have a different type of offspring from time to time.
  4. hi hi The more I think about it, the less sense high heels make for horses. I mean, they're already standing on their toes right?
  5. hi hi Ugh... Mongoloid, Negroid? I cringed while reading that. The genetics that cover skin color and appearance number only several hundred base pairs, out of billions. Two complete strangers of, say, european descent can be more genetically similar that myself and my own brother. The whole "three equal types" hypothesis doesn't really mesh with reality either. In reality, genes code parts of the body in relationship to their position on the chromosome, so there's no chance that the genes for a horn and the genes for wings would overlap because they're located in different positions. Of course if that was the case, winged unicorns would be the most common type of pony and earth ponies would be the most rare. If you want to have winged unicorn OCs, thats cool, and you could make it work genetically. Personally I think it cheapens the distinction a bit from a storytelling point of view. It makes it seem like there is one race type that is objectively better than another, and that doesn't jive with me. I think this one's a much more reasonable explanation: ( I realize I must sound awful bitter or something, but the term alicorn always makes my brain want to explode. As a student of classical mythology, Alicorn was the substance a unicorn's horn was made out of. It'd be like calling a winged elephant an ivory. )
  6. hi hi If he's an earth pony, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing is hoof powered. I mean, they pull trains by hoof and pinkie pie has a pedal powered flying machine. Maybe the engine just acts as a magical amplifier? Maybe instead of bombs, they'd be dropping airmail packages?
  7. hi hi Oh, I can't believe I missed this post. I'm digging the art style, your lines are very gestural, even if they don't vary in width. I think your zedonk with no name is my favorite so far.
  8. hi hi If I had to choose a favorite part, I'd say the bit where she left a burst through the cloud layer really creates a sense of how fast she's going.
  9. hi hi I take it Eerie Spooks is a method writer then? If she's easily scared, she must have lots of personal reference material to draw on.
  10. hi hi Comments sent. They sure look like they're having a blast. Also, the gal who dressed up as Rarity has some pictures of herself wearing a cool Spike hoodie around town on her deviant art page. (that I wish I had one of those) Links ahoy:
  11. hi hi I remember lemonade stand! I only ever saw one instance where it was cloudy in the morning and didn't start raining later.
  12. hi hi Honestly, I was surprised that Party of One has proven to be as popular as it is... I think I might have to go and re-watch it and see.
  13. hi hi Y'all are making me feel old... I don't even remember the name of first game I ever played, but it was for the Apple II, you played a rabbit that had to get through a maze to reach a carrot.
  14. hi hi I don't talk about it because it has a tendency to side-track conversation and require explanation, but if it does come up, I don't hide it.
  15. hi hi I grew to have a bit of an aversion to board games as a kid. My brother was two years older than me, two years smarter than me, and I always lost whenever we played Chess, Stratego, Risk or anything that wasn't purely based on luck. (and I don't much care for purely luck based games) I suppose it wasn't until I was older that I realized that getting crushed repeatedly didn't mean I was bad at said games, it just meant that my brother was exceptionally good. Recently, however, I've been playing lots of board games with my friends and some of my new favorites are: • Settlers of Catan • Arkham Horror • Red November • Ghost Stories Edit: And when I say always, I'm not exaggerating. Every. Single. Time.
  16. hi hi New tricks to make art easier are awesome, and I'm sure the great and powerful Trixie would approve. Sometimes I look back at the methods I used to use in the past and wonder how I ever got away with it. But then thats the benefit of pushing yourself to the limit and trying big things, you're more likely to discover something new.
  17. hi hi I think its pretty interesting to see an early version of the song. It seems like this version was made for a scene that would have been longer than the one that eventually made it into the show, probably involving more visual effects that are common with Pinkie Pie songs.
  18. hi hi I enjoyed it, though I've never been on 4-chan ever, so I don't really have an appreciation for why that is always such a big deal whenever people start talking about older pony fans. Also, why is Twilight Sparkle so adorable? They never answered that question.
  19. hi hi • Chrono Trigger is kind of in a league of its own. I don't know if I'd call it my favorite, but it fills a niche that I've never seen another RPG fill, so I guess you could at least say its the best at what it does. • I loved Final Fantasy Tactics, and while the battles confounded me the first time I played it through, having gone back to it again when I was older, it wasn't so hard. • There's a few RPGs and RPG like games I've played where they integrate button combos into the battle system, and I like that mechanic. Legend of Legaia was good though I had to return it before I beat it, a friend and I had lots of fun with Gladius even though the storyline was terrible, and the critical hit system in Mario RPG gave combat some nice flavor.
  20. hi hi I think they layered a bunch of awesomeness into Winter Wrap Up, and the song is just one of the layers. I think everypony can relate to Twilight wanting to belong, I mean, who hasn't wanted to fit in somewhere, sometime? (A sociopath maybe?) When Twilight messes up at Sweet Apple Acres, tries to explain, but stops halfway and runs off I always get a tear in my eye. During the opening, Tara Strong totally nails the excitement factor and I get carried away for the ride just like that.
  21. hi hi ...I'm not sure what you mean by Winter Wrap Up minus the song... It'd be like 5 minutes long without the song in it. How could a 5 minute long episode be anyone's favorite?
  22. hi hi I guess his third wish didn't work out so well.
  23. hi hi Uhg... typography is my single greatest weakness. I can do any other kind of design work, but when it comes to typography its like hitting a brick wall. Examples are nice and all, but there's got to be somewhere one can go to learn the fundamentals, and get an understanding of the underlying theory instead of just seeing pretty results. Here is my contribution:
  24. hi hi Well, I don't know if there is a right way to slice cheese, though this one seems to work pretty well, you're more than welcome to the idea if you like. Thats really not surprising at all Motion Paradox, people learn much better from example than they do from just being told to do something. There's been a number of studies about it, but the basic conclusion is that people pick up on things a lot easier if they see how it works themselves. (Lots of people seem to tout learning from your mistakes, but thats actually not a very effective way of learning because people often learn the wrong lesson from mistakes -such as learning to not try at all- and learning from example or learning from practice are much better.)
  25. hi hi This is the thread where everypony can share the strange, weird, unusual and/or all around unintended lessons they learned while watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I'll go first! I used to have a great deal of trouble slicing cheese for lunch. It is something I do every day, and I have little more than a butter knife to do it with. It has always been a struggle in the past to get a slice that is the right size, or isn't lopsided. However... I watched Winter Wrap Up and I saw Pinkie Pie scoring the lake with her skates. I thought to myself: "maybe this is the solution to my problem too." So I tried scoring the sides of my block of cheese before slicing it and sure enough, the knife stays in the grooves and I get a perfect slice of cheese every time now. I highly doubt that the writers were intending for this to be a lesson in the show, but it worked none the less.
