  1. “What have I gotten myself into?” thought Seeker, making his way to his start position. He’d heard of course of the strange traditions1 of the ponyfolk living on the plains beyond the desert, dealing with the changing seasons with elaborate rites.. “On your Marks!” …but that wasn’t at all what he had pictured. On his way he had heard that the Running of the Leaves was ‘one of those events one definitely shouldn’t miss’, that's what the locals had told him, and his way led him here anyway, so he entered. But it seemed so chaotic to him, all those different ponies from all over the plains and beyond. And he was almost certain he had seen the shape of a griffin somewhere in the crowd… “Get set!!” …and of course he had taken Blacky aside beforehand to make sure he understood that a dog can’t just run among galloping Ponies, but now it didn’t seem to be so much of a difference anymore. It would have been a feeble attempt to hold the dog back, of course, but on the other hand he was trained good enough trust Seeker. He would run along outside the main track. Everything would be fine... “GO!!!!!” …the forest isn’t that thick. And we traveled past the Everfr… Seeker felt dozens of ponies pushing past him and he had to press his hoof into the ground with all his might not to fall over. The sudden realization hit him that he missed the start! The main field already pushed past him. As he decided to start the race with a sprint. As he quickly accelerated into a gallop, he glanced to the left, looking for Blacky. The dog ran level with him, just outside the treeline. “Good dog.”, he thought. And then “Great, just Great.” OOC: 1:Seasons in deserts a very different from the ones in temperate regions, that's why this seems so foreign to him.
  2. There are other kinds of glue even the ancient greek knew about. I can believe that they make their glue without animal byproducts. I think one thing we have to take into account here is that lots of the animals in the show are domesticated animal. What I mean by that is that they are a product of artifical breeding. Cows, AJ's dog, Rarities cat, chickens, and while we are at it, Ponies themself. At this point, the only real possibility how all of that can work together is if Equestria is the success of a large scale genetics experiment (Or was created by a god, exactly as it is right now). The shows writers clearly don't apply realword logic onto the world all the time, and we probably shouldn't either. Tell you what, how about this, and I'm not being cynical here, there once was a Unicorn whos special power was to understand the "makeup" of stuff (basically could "see" the atoms they are made of), and then used his special talent create all that complicated food chemistry needed to make vegetarian food for carnivores and vegetarian gelatin and all that good stuff, and the recipes are now just handed down generation to generation, but noone really knows anymore why it works, since the society doesn't really swing into the direction of science (unless it's about researching magic appearently). It's like island tribes in the Caribbeans, that build perfect rafts(after modern standart) because that how they learnt it from their fathers. Just throwing that out here.
  3. You should do that. There are no obvious problems in your app, and calling it "finished" gives you the best chance to get someone with actual say look over it.
  4. Where we playing a game? I'm sorry... No it's my fault... I didn't pay enough attention....
  5. brianblackberry seeded that idea in my head, and I just went with it. Again, sorry.
  6. First time I hear about something like that. Sorry. I guess there is still some for me to learn about how eyes work. edit: Oh, on different eyes. Yeah, that makes sense. The natural order has been restored.
  7. Thank you kindly for your time. I can't access the pictures in that thread, but I assumed that it wasn't so much a bug and more of me not being in the right group. I've come across countless dead links in my short stay here, though. I'll report them from now on.
  8. The Doctor. I know he has been kinda reimagined for Mane RP here, but I love the idea that he is an actual timelord, having crazy adventures most of the ponies don't even know about, save for his companion.
  9. No, I don't hide it. However, I'm not the type trying to convert people either, so most of my friends and family are oblivious of it nonetheless.
  10. So my first app has been moved to the accepted application forum, and I'm quite excited about that, but there is one thing I couldn't sort out yet, which is the question of where exactly my family originates. I wrote in that they lead sheep down a trail along the mountain outskirts of a desert. I'd love to specify that, but the links in the geography section don't work for me, which I guess has to do with the forum having moved recently. Could somepony with a tighter grip on Equestrian geography lend me a helping hoof with that? I wouldn't have opened a new thread for that alone, actually, but I can't post in my application anymore, so I didn't quite know where to turn. Thanks in advance. p.s.: you can reach my application by clicking on the picture in my sig, if that's a help.
  11. Being German myself I can tell you that the German intro is unbelievably bad. I don't know how they did it, but they managed to undermine what I love most about this show, that it is'nt patronizing towards their target demographic. Most german dubs are atrocious, but this especially rubs me the wrong way.
  12. As you exit the stage coach that brought you to Canterlot, you hear the soft, but stern voice of princess Celestia, projected through a plethora of suspiciously new looking speakers all over the central courtyard. "Welcome, welcome to Canterlot, you have chosen or been chosen to relocate to one of our finest remaining urban centers. I thought so much of Canterlot that I elected to establish my administration here, in the castle so thoughtfully provided by our benefactors. I have been proud to call Canterlot my home. So whether you are here to stay, or passing through on your way to parts unknown, welcome to Canterlot. It's safer here." It is now that you notice a rather unusual amount of new guards, and you feel a certain unease radiating from the general populous trotting around the courtyard. As the stage coach takes off behind you, you are suddenly alone with your thoughts. So, enjoy your stay. It's better then I make it sound.
  13. Funfact: If you are nearsighted and become farsighted because of old age, your eyesight sometimes becomes normal again. It's one or the other, at least according to crummy real world logic.
  14. So she waits for worms to die from natural causes, too? Invertebrates feel pain, too.
  15. Why thank you. I will turn this into a real application right now, to get some progress on this. edit: oh, I got it now. My OC is like a RL friend of yours. That's crazy indeed.
  16. Interesting. Is he around here, too? I was thinking more clockwork, rather then Steampunk. But I guess those are Steampunk-goggles, huh.

  18. When the 10th Doctor regenerated into the 11th, he thought for a moment that he regenerated as a girl that time, so I guess it's possible. I don't think that a Timelord can regenerate into another species, actually, because he never did. He always stays gallifreyan, which just so happen to look exactly like human. But his inner organs are different to a human. What would be possible is if a different species conceives a child in a TARDIS, it might become part timelord, since that happened before. If you got a part of the Doctor, you might be able to create a hybrid, too, like the Doctor-Donna from the fourth season. Also, all humans look timelord, not the other way around.

  20. Name: Seeker Sex: Male Age: Stallion Species: Pony Pelt Color: Dark Grey Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: short and sturdy, brown Eye Color: light grey Cutie Mark: two broken, light grey gears with a yellow lighting bolt Physique: Well built, now out of training Origin: Nomad family, Painted Pinto Desert Roleplay Type: Mane Occupation: Former self-proclaimed archaeologist, tinkerer (both self-taught) Motivation: Finding traces of forgotten civilizations, and their supposed machinery Likes: New things, engines and machines of all kinds, his dog, adventure, ruins Dislikes: stagnation, vanity, trickery Character Summary: Although he usually seems slightly preoccupied and grumpy, Seeker is always glad to help anypony. When exploring ruins, though, he seems like a completely different pony altogether. He becomes ecstatic and can't be bothered with worldly problems. That rarely happens, though. Origin Story: Born into a family of nomadic shepherds, young Seeker traveled with his family, leading the sheep to the meager vegetation growing between the Painted Pinto Desert and the mountain outskirts of the Raptorclaw canyon. The Shepherds and their dogs would protect the sheep from the dangerous creatures of the mountains, and seek for water and grass, and as a payoff would harvest the sturdy wool of the sheep, using their unicorn magic to spin it into yarn, which they would then sell in the towns along their route. They entertained trade relationships with ponies, buffalo and even the griffins from time to time. From a very young age, Seeker was driven by a curiosity, leading him in dangerous situations. He would wander off sometimes, drawn to place far away, towards the mountains that outlined the track. Luckily both his parents and the various herding dogs around the caravans kept a close eye on him. As he grew older, his interest for machinery started to bloom as his family taught him the use of the portable spinning wheels, refining his telekinetic capabilities operating them. He quickly picked up basic woodwork proficiencies, helping with repairs. One day, as he was playing with his siblings in the mountain outskirts near the encampment, all of the sudden he felt the draw again, leading him away from his siblings. Not properly paying attention to his step, the inevitable happened. Seeker stumbled and fell in a hole in the ground, landing in a small cavern under a heath. It was there Seeker came to his senses, as he felt a sharp pain in his hind leg. It was broken. Unable to walk properly, he lay down, scared and alone. Seeker wondered how far away he was from the camp. He tried to cry for help, but his voice was low, and he had little hope anyone would hear him. And for the better, probably, since dangerous creatures roamed the mountains. As he looked about, he seemed to notice lines in the stony surfaces around him, but he was far to hungry to concentrate. He saw that in the light coming through the hole he fell into, grew a little patch of grass. With all his strength, Seeker stumbled towards the grass. Now that he came closer, he saw that the grass wasn't the only thing in the shimmer of light. Underneath the straws, a round metallic object, about the surface of hoof print, glimmered in the light. As Seeker tapped it with his hoof, it sounded curiously empty. Hunger, pain, fear, Seeker couldn't be bothered by them anymore now. His magic overtook all his senses, and seemed to sense the inside of the weird object. He sensed tiny metal parts, interconnected in a familiar but endlessly more complicated. He forgot time, absent mindedly gnawing on the little patch of vegetation right in front of him, while moving he metal object with his telekinesis. Eventually, fatigue overcame Seeker, and he fell asleep. As he woke up he was back in the camp. His parents told him that they searched for hours for him and almost lost hope, if it hadn't been for Blacky, one of the shepherd dogs, that lead them to the hole. He had slept for 3 whole days. While Seeker tried to remember what happened, he looked around the hay bed that his parents fashioned in the shadow of one of the wagons, and found what he was looking for. The metal object lay there, carefully placed on piece of cloth. He was told that when they found him, he was still firmly holding it in his maw, unwilling to leave it behind. He noticed a weak ticking sound filling the air, and he realized it was the object. He inspected it like he saw it for the first time properly. On the top side, an intricate set of spirals and lines was engraved, and at one end, a little chain was connected to it. There seemed to be a lid, but it was firmly shut. Seeker looked up to his parents, and noticed they had a puzzled expression. So he followed their eyes to his flank, which, to his amazement, wasn't blank anymore. It now showed two broken light grey gears, and a lightning bolt between them. He knew what he would do with his life. He would travel around, searching for lost objects like this one, and tracing their origin. Although his parents had hoped he would follow the family tradition, they were very supporting of his new passion. He stayed with the herd until he was old enough to travel the land on his own, and after a heartfelt goodbye, Seeker went into the mountains, taking with him Blacky, the dog, and a set of saddle bags fashioned from the wool his family produced. He would travel far through the mountains, letting his horn lead him, and indeed finding traces of civilization, but to his frustration never anything more substantial then the object already in his possession. Still hopeful, though, he decided to travel outside the mountain range towards the center of Equestria, for he heard that there were comprehensive libraries near in the central cities. Maybe there he would be able to find a new lead. He continued studying the object, going so far as to dismantle and rebuild it several times, never really understanding what it actually does. He now earns his income repairing wagons and wooden machines and doing basic metal- and leather-works. He mostly sleeps under the stars and lives from the land as far as possible. One thing that never crossed his mind, though, is that maybe his special talent isn't finding lost civilizations (although he has a certain talent for it) but rather repairing broken machinery. Note: the object would look like a large pocket watch, with spirals and line engraved on the lid. It might very well be a remnant of a lost civilisation, one thing is for certain: It's absolutely 100% useless. I would like to stress that.
