I'd say that's perfectly normal. It's kind of a like a pool, though. If you just dip your toe in, it's cold, but if you jump right in, you get past the discomfort pretty quickly.

Oh ok, as long as I don't have to make an application for it, I'm not really fond of taking applications for a position, anyone can put that they would be friendly, helpful, and involved, then turn around and do the exact opposite of what they said.

Under previous administration applications were required. Under this one, as long as you exemplify what we want an RPH to be, you have a chance at it, but it's not a guarantee by any stretch of the imagination.
So, basically, just be involved and be friendly and helpful where you can! Someone might say "hey, why don't we nab that dashingblade guy to be an rph" later.
