I was actually trying to make a simplistic picture for Lani's banner that will eventually go up in my character log, and it morphed into...this. Lani's ferociously enthusiastic fire dancing practice. For her banner, I'll probably end up taking out the fire and highlighting, and maybe change the expression to make it seem like Lani is just experience a pretty intense yawn and stretching session. Fire and ember brushes don't belong to me.

When designing OCs, I tend to have one idea or core concept that I want to turn into a pony. Inkbrand (the forum where he was first created) was designed to contrast the myriad sunshine and rainbow-y characters I was RPing with. Yuri was created with the idea of 'nice' not being equatable to 'right'. Fabled Archives was made around the idea of a pony's looks being entirely unfitting for their special talent. Lani was drawn up and apped because I wanted brighter and more vivid colors amongst my OCs. That's it. That's all. She's actually a redraw of the very first picture I uploaded in this gallery, of a random unicorn I drew to test out a color scheme that I ended up really liking. I did say I might app her eventually - which is what I did, though I reimagined her into a tropical island type pony. I'm honestly not sure if I'm actually going to RP her at all - I literally have no ideas about her at all - but her job was to add color to my OC roster, so...I feel accomplished anyways!

Realized today that I hadn't drawn any "thank you" gift art recently, so here's one for PyroBlaze, another person who's been leaving "Like"s for my art pretty much from the beginning. Its his Changeling character Flux, in the middle of a transformation. I really like how this one turned out, the half-Changling, half-pony shot. I did something similar for my own Changeling character - it's pretty fun matching up the two sides that so startlingly contrast each other. Flux © PyroBlaze

I've been getting into the holiday spirit it seems (Christmas is my favorite time of the year!), which prompted me to draw two ponies sharing a scarf and standing in the falling snow. Xiphos and Meadowhawk aren't actually together anymore, but Xiphos doesn't let little details like that bother him. Meadowhawk © Dio

Nocturne's participating in the Hearth's Warming Gala hosted by Spellbound. Attire is formal, so I designed a sort of vest and shirt combo. Turned out pretty well, in my opinion! We'll see if sharp fashion will be enough to get him some more friends, though.
  6. When you catch someone looking at your character log, and idly wonder what it is they're looking at/for. Is it chickens? I bet it's chickens.

  7. Japanese? Hmmm. The licensing stuff that pops up whenever you open the program is in Japanese, but everything else is in English for me. I downloaded it straight from the website and it runs in English for me.

I've been needing to update the intro picture on my character log, so I had the choice to draw some sort of banner thing, or stuff all of my characters into one picture while making them all seem cohesive with one another. I chose the latter...and cheated a bit. This, actually didn't take me as long as I thought it would, probably because I drew all of them as foals and not their proper ages. And probably because I sped through it and didn't pay much attention to making it look really pretty. But it came out alright, rushed as it was. Me, personally? I like Ori's picture the best. Any younger and he would have literally been a ball of fluff~
  9. Check out Paint Tool SAI and FireAlpaca. I always forget if SAI is free or not, but if it's not it probably has a trial program you can use just to see what it's like. FireAlpaca is like a watered down version of SAI, and it's what I mainly use to do my drawings. I love it because of its Pen Correction feature (a feature shared with SAI) which smoothes the path of the brush as you're drawing. So if you have shaky hands that result in wobbly and uneven lines on your drawings, the Pen Correction tool is a really nice way to help correct that.

Felt like fiddling around with animation today, so out came this little doodle. Click on the picture and scroll a bit to see the animation! For those of you that don't know, my eastern dragon Yuri is just a little bit fascinated with ponykind. She and another dragon are currently traversing Equestria in hopes to meet several different kinds of ponies, and their first run in is none other than Prince Blueblood. For having to deal with two strange dragons essentially barreling their way into his home (including one that has a very poor concept of personal space), he's being a pretty good sport about it. (Also no, I didn't forget about his horn. It's there...somewhere). Prince Blueblood © Hasbro

Not good with backgrounds, but I gave it my best shot darnit. Inkbrand usually spends the holidays with his family in Manehatten, but this Hearth's Warming he's got a little charge to take care of. The two of them (plus friends) are going to make the best of it though. Fun fact: I almost took the lazy route and drew easy and round snowmen on Inkbrand's scarf, but in the end I committed. Because snowponies > snowmen. Applejack © Hasbro

    Lux New Portrait

I really like the background/portal on this picture. The gradient on the portal really gives off a nice 3D effect, where it feels like the portal is getting smaller in the distance and I could actually step into it if I wanted. Really cool effect.

I created a character as a background pony for a recent picture I drew, with this same cutie mark. I liked it so much that I decided to make another, entirely new character, which turned into this Earth Pony who's been tentatively named Moonshine. Much like with Starlit Shimmer, I tried to give her a very glossy and shimmering look...though, I think I went overboard with the highlighting. Makes her look almost white instead of a shimmering silver. I'll probably try playing around with colors later, make her a darker silver, and maybe change her hair color to ashen or black. But still, I like how she turned out. Dunno if I actually want to app her, or just give her design up for adoption or something else, though.
  14. Taking a break from Canterlot.com for a while. Shouldn't be for too long. Apologies to RPs I'm involved with, feel free to skip over my characters.

I wonder what's going on here... ... On second thought, no. I really don't want to wonder what's going on here. Instead I have to wonder why I designed such an incredibly creepy pony. Like. Seriously. Meadowhawk © Dio

    Human Sketches

I have no idea who Zed is or why you keep mentioning him, but that's Inkbrand. And QueenCerali, thank you for that. Your comments, your 'Like's, they really do mean a lot. It's always gratifying to see comments that are about the art itself and not just a random comment about the picture, if that makes sense.

And by human, I mean mostly bust shots, because bodies are hard to draw. I felt like I was getting rusty with humans since I've been pretty much pony-focused with my drawings since I came to this site. So, a little practice with human faces, expressions, angles, etc, was what I needed. Pleasantly surprised that I haven't completely forgotten how to draw humans, I honestly half-expected to have to refer back to tutorials and anatomy guides. A few people let me borrow their pony OCs to transplant onto the human faces I'd drawn, as well. Which I like, since I tend to have trouble coming up with hair styles. Also, there's Inkbrand with a yukaza-inspired tattoo, because why not? Mesmeric and Dubstep © Dubstep Ice Storm © IceStorm

So I was finished with Okami drawings, but someone mentioned that I was missing a character and linked me a picture. I think he's just off his rocker, but I went ahead with it anyways, just to humor him. Something about shy butterflies, apparently... On a side note, I think I need to spend some time drawing pony heads from different angles. Profiles are usually okay, but from pretty much any other angle I find that I tend to draw heads too circular, instead of making them a bit more oval-looking. I'll probably do another sketch session soon to try and practice that. Fluttershy © Hasbro

    Omnomnom.

    From the album: MLP Characters

I have completely forgotten who I had this conversation with, but it basically started from discussion about a grass, then the image of a pony going to town on a patch of grass, then the inclusion of said pony being majestic and otherwise dramatic while chewing on grass like a cow. Naturally, it turned into this.

Uploaded a small size so the gif should be viewable right from the album. If not, click on the picture and scroll a bit to start up the animation! I'm still doing frame-by-frame animation - haven't even begun to look at actual animating programs - but I wanted to practice hair movement. And, what a pain that was. I can visualize and see how hair moves...but then trying to break that movement down into individual frames that, when put together, will create the exact movement, is extremely difficult for me. Still, this actually came out a lot better than I imagined it would. Obviously rough and unpolished, but for my first time animating major movement, not too bad.

Mmm... Mixed feelings about how this one turned out, but, happy that I tried something new and different for myself. The rainbow color schemes, from her mane/tail and the trail she's leaving behind, all sort of melded together. I have to say, as much as I tend to dislike rainbow color schemes on ponies, the mane and tail were fun to draw. Rainbow Dash © Hasbro
  22. Whelp. If you read the description, you'll notice a link to a first compilation picture. Inkbrand is there, along with the other four OCs I have in addition to these four. So nine in total. I'm not making any more OCs though. I mean it. Really. ...
  23. From the album: OC Art

I've almost doubled the number of characters I've created since my first compilation post, so I thought I'd upload the second part. This is art I've drawn of my characters for their character logs, and as before, I decided to upload the newer ones into one picture, rather than four separate ones. I feel like I've branched out a little with the color palettes and designs I tend to use on OCs - though, comparing it to my first compilation, I seem to have a tendency to use both blue and 'neutral' colors quite a bit. I need to add some brighter, vivider colors, like oranges and yellows. And smaragdine of course, can't forget about the luscious smaragdine!
  24. From the album: MLP Characters

Yet another character I've never drawn, because I don't really draw cast characters, ever. But I like how she turned out, even if I couldn't really get a good 'bouncing' pose going. Her hair is as wild as Rarity's, but it was a lot of fun to draw! Pinkie Pie © Hasbro
  25. From the album: MLP Characters

Nothing very intuitive about this one, except the hair. First time drawing Rarity, and my goodness that hair. The front bit ended up being almost twice the size it is now, I had to resize it about three times, heh. Rarity © Hasbro
