A question to all ye old debaters

Because as Celestia said in the Season 2 Two Parter, neither she nor Luna are actually connected to the Elements anymore? They've transitioned over to the Mane Six, and as a result neither sister has power over them anymore. And when was Celestia ever all powerful anyways? Remember, Season 2 Finale. Beaten by the power of a Queen infused by the love of a husband to a wife.

From your signature, I see what point you're trying to make, and let me remind you of this. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are supposed to be equally powerful.

Celestia is not one to force things onto others. We hear in the intro that she plead with Luna prior to her turn to Nightmare Moon.

Also, there are two connected parts to Luna's Transformation.

1) A physical transformation

2) An attitude transformation

If Celestia had changed the physical without the attitude, the rift would have remained.

The mane 6 used the elements to break the physical transformation, which was the perfect opportunity for Celestia to step in to forgive Luna and offer to restore her. It is not clear that her attitude would have been fixed otherwise.

If the mane 6 had used the elements to break her power 5 minutes after she turned, she would not have healed. How much time was necessary? Likely not 1000 years, but definitely some amount of time.

In the very first episode, it say Celestia harnessed the Elements of Harmony to defeat Luna. All six of them. Yet the effect was different when the Elements were controlled by Celestia (banishment) then by with Twilight and her friends (purity). Celestia had control of the Elements for that time, even though she and Luna don't anymore. At one point they shared the Elements, and then Celestia had them all, and then Twi and co.

Well since they had both used the elements to seal Discord my guess is it was partially due to the fact that 3 were connected to Luna so Celestia could not use them properly by herself and partially that to the elements need more than one Pony to work (think about it, it would make sense that one of the things needed to use the elements properly is Harmony between multiple Ponies) and perhaps the more Ponies that use the elements the better they work; in that case six Ponies using the elements together with the same intent would produce much better reasults than one Pony trying to use all six elements at once (or perhaps not even all six, the episode does imply that you need Harmony for the Element of Magic to appear) when only half are connected to her, against a Pony who is not only connected to the other half of the elements, but that the Pony using the elements knows very well and thus she would probably be holding back a bit.

Not to mention there is the possibility that the elements have some sort of understanding of the intent of the Pony/Ponies using them, after all each reconised the Pony that represents the same trait they do and even took on the same shape as the Pony's cutiemark, and in Return of Harmony they did not work when the Ponies were altered and weren't in Harmony. If that's the case then it would make sense that the elements would send Luna to the moon even if Celestia's intent was to change her back because Celestia was too close to the situation so the best solution would be to allow the moon to be moved, since that needed to happen for life to continue, and allow the conflict to be resolved when somepony who was more removed could solve it and use the elements to their full potential

Way to bring an argument from a different topic here, buddy. Anyways, here was my post on the other forum...

And enough about this "Elements of Harmony" stuff. First of all, we don't know who forged them. For all we know it could very well have been Celestia herself who forged it. Incorporated her own power into the artifacts themselves.

Luna controlled half the elements. Also Celestia never actually seems to do anything so maybe she isn't all that powerful

You're right El, moving the entire sun on a daily basis is not doing anything at all.

Sarcasm x1000

First off, how do we know the sun isn't really moving on its own and she is saying she is moving it? Moon worked just fine without Luna around.

Secondly every time evil needs vanquishing what does Celestia do? Call Twilight. The one time she got off her rump she got beat up in about three seconds.

First of all, the moon worked fine with just Luna around, because Celestia controlled both, it even says that on the show. The celestial bodies do not move on it's own. It even says that the Unicorns were controlling the Sun and Moon before the sisters arrived.

Secondly, Princess Celestia is the head monarch of the largest empire in the known world. So what if she does not get up to face evil? It's not her duty to, and you should not blame her for it. She has already overthrown Discord's empire, and lead Equestria through 1000 years of peace. She has done enough for Equestria, in terms of physical service.

And furthermore, Chrysalis was powered by the love of Shining Armor. Love is a very powerful emotion.

As for Celestia not doing anything, she and Luna defeated Discord together, and she defeated Luna by herself (of course with the help of the Elements). The thing that Celestia has learned is that the Elements are needed and necessary to defeat the big evils. She did try to defeat Chrysalis herself, but that failed, and Celestia likely would have failed against Discord without the Elements. So, since she failed, and Chrysalis certainly couldn't remain in power, she called on the only other thing she knew would work-the Elements of Harmony. If she could have used them herself, she would. But hey, at least she tried that time. And she did help out with Discord the second time, if you recall, by sending Twilight the friendship reports. There wasn't much she could do against a power so strong, but she knew she had to do something. And don't forget in Lesson Zero, when she came and saved Ponyville, or when she was on her way to Fillydelphia in Swarm of the Century to handle the Parasprite problem. A lot of the stuff she handles is not on a national scale, but it's still vitally important. There are not a lot of huge threats because Equestria is a peaceful land. But there are plenty of threats to specific cities that need to be taken care of.

Templar is right. It's not her job to do any fighting. When is the last time you saw an American president actually pick up a gun and start shooting?

It doesn't happen.

Why?

Because, as the Country's leader, he'd be target number one. He would be shot first, leaving us to the hands of the vice president. That's why Celestia sends Twilight, because any enemy of Equestria would attack the ruler (Celestia) first. Going on the battlefield would be suicide.

Actually, the last national leader king to fight in battle was Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden during the 30 years war. After him, there was no other.
