Character Summary: There are many patches of trees and rough terrain that dot the landscape around Hoofington. Somepony needs to take care of them, and that pony is Wind Rider, the quiet and calm Ranger with a knack for navigation.

It was as if he was born for his job. His mother was a successful Weather Patrolmare, and his father was a harbour pilot, leading the great ships through the reefs and the rocks of the bay, allowing them to safely enter and leave the port. Both of them were amazingly good at navigation, his father using it to get the ships safely through the bay, while his mother used her navigation skills to get her safely out of clouds, where a careless pony could end up flying in the wrong direction, either off to the middle of nowhere, out over the sea, or straight down to the ground. It was only natural that he would have some innate navigational ability just from his parents alone.

And this skill all came together to help him earn his cutie mark. Wind Rider was one of the few blank flanks left in his class, and with he and his friends soon to enter the colt stage, he wanted his desperately to acquire his. With a break from school one day, he and his friends decided to go out for a hike through one of the forests near Hoofington. Despite their young age, the group of four were reasonably mature, and would often go on long hikes, hikes that would last for almost a full day. Once, they'd even spent a whole night out in the forest before returning home. Something, however, went wrong on this hike. A patch of freak, heavy fog had kicked up as they were planning to turn back, and the group ended up turned around. They went much deeper into the forest than they ever had before, and none of the trees were marked like the others - they would often tie ribbons around trees to help find their way - which meant that they were totally lost.

For a while, the young foals walked around in circles, trying to find a way out. This led them to walk around in circles for a while, until a sense of despair caught the group. Wind Rider, who up until this point had been silent, eventually spoke up. Wind Rider had always been a little quiet, but he knew he had to take charge.

Ordering his friends to stand still, he took off. With both his parents accomplished flyers, and needing to be for their jobs, he was taught at a young age to fly properly. Nonetheless, it was a struggle to reach the altitude he needed to...his mother had taught him to navigate with the sun, but to do that he had to get above the fog. He knew that without doing that, they would be stuck for quite a while.

Miraculously, the young foal managed to get up above the fog. Spotting the sun and memorizing the direction, he quickly worked out where Hoofington was in relation to them. Exhausted from his flight, Wind Rider slowly came back down, and with his friends carrying him, they eventually made it back to town. They were all happy though...Wind Rider had his cutie mark, and they were all back safe and sound.

Before he entered his colt years, like every young pegasus Wind wanted to be part of one of the famous jobs...Weather Patrol, Air Force, or maybe join an aerobatics team. That was as a foal. When his father explained the significance of his cutie mark, a Colt aged Wind Rider decided on a new job. He had come to realize the significance of what he'd done on that hike. Wind, as he got older, had begun to read the news, and he would read many stories of how ponies would get lost, be it at sea, in the forests, or anywhere in between. Knowing that the sea was covered by the ship captains and the harbour patrol, it still left the area between the rivers unpatrolled for lost ponies. Knowing that just wouldn't do, Wind took it upon himself to do something about it.

Within the year, he was being trained for the job of Hoofington's park ranger. His domain was the land, and he was happy. Before long, he got his hooves wet when a couple had gotten lost and the colt had stumbled into the river. His patrol let him spot the filly, and after she'd calmed enough to tell him the story, he'd flown downstream to catch the colt, who was unable to swim. Wind caught him just in time and pulled him out of the water. The young colt was safe, and the young ranger was happy. He had found his calling in saving people.

Nowadays, it's a common sight to see the young stallion gliding slowly, as per his name, patrolling the rivers and woods to make sure everypony gets home safely. The silhouette of a pegasus in a wide brimed hat is now a common sight to travellers and campers outside of Hoofington, as Wind completes his daily patrols.

Just a heads up - it can take around two to five days for any official response to drop in and provide commentary - usually, feedback happens more readily on apps that need work. Though I am currently a little addled with a headache rightnow, I'd say this application is probably fine; it's well-thought-out, quite reasonable, interesting, fairly distinct, and rather well-written! Looking forward to seeing how this character turns out in various threads!

Thanks. And I know it takes a while, but with the new apps coming in, my was heading quite low down the page. Wanted to make sure it was still up somewhere to be seen ^^

I swear I'm not a compulsive attention whore  lol

Actually, the mods are usually pretty good about checking the ones that were created first that they still haven't looked at. It just takes them a few days, so no worries.

Hay there, just wanted to stop by and lend a helping hoof. Your character seems pretty well thought out and developed. You might want to ad a little about his personality, but that is a side note. What I wanted to talk with you about is the 'CASAR', this seems to be a grand organization. While this is not a bad thing, it is however subject to approval, you need to write up a post for the Lore & Organization section. If the organization is approved then you can use it in your character's application. It is a very long and arduous process to have an organization ratified for 'Mane RP', so if you are looking to RP in a short amount of time, I would highly recommend removing any references to the unapproved organization from the application, you can always go back and tell a helpstaff that you want to edit it if the organization gets approved. As to the 'CASAR' in and of its self, it is a wee bit redundant. The REA, since Equestria is not at war, usually takes care of domestic disturbances such as the ones that you have outlined that 'CASAR' does. There are units in the REA that Wind Rider would fit into very well, you might want to take a look over their organization and see if it fits Wind Rider here.

Roger to that, Sage. The reason I created the organization was that I didn't see Wind Rider as being a military man (nor did I intend to make him so), so I definitely want to get some kind of civilian air search and rescue organization created. Simply because the military by nature is a bit of a bureaucratic thing, so calling in the troops every time a pony took a wrong turn in the woods didn't seem logical to me. Also, I couldn't really see the military dispatching troops across Equestria to do school presentations. To me, at least up here in Canada, this kind of stuff is handled first by civilians, with assistance from NatGuard/LEOs.

I'm fine with the time it takes to get an organization approved, seeing as the way I imagined his character pretty much centres around the existence of a civilian branch of search and rescue. Where would I submit an application for the organization? In the Proposed Lore and Discussion section?

Edit: In addition, I didn't really see it as a "grand organization" so much as maybe like a half-dozen full time workers, with the rest of the organization made up of people that show up every time there's an emergency, like a ship lost at sea or something, and that help with but are separate from any REA duties that overlap.

Edit 2: Also, not butting heads with you or anything (least that's not my intention), just that I don't want to come up with a new character/background.

Hay again, I assure you that you are not stepping on anypony's hooves. Really I just wanted to inform you that it will take a while to process the 'CASAR' idea fully, and there is the chance that it might not get through. So if you were looking to RP in general within a short time-frame you might want to either rework the character or maybe start a new one. Although if you are a patient pony, more power to you! You would post the idea for the 'CASAR's in the Proposed Lore section, which it seems as though you already have, kudos!

Again you are not stepping on any hooves, I just wanted to let you know that the process for ratifying an organization may take quite a while!

Looks real good and of course if CASAR gets approved, you can have him join in the RP, or add a paragraph here having him join (if you want to retcon him into the group at a younger age).

For Great Justice! :D
