[Trottingham] Fairly Distant

Imagination

Pinchy was still in full panic. She knew her mother would be worried. She'd be beside herself with worry! She had no idea where they were going, and now they were saying the brake was broken? Of course the 'fall off a cliff' bit didn't seem to help much at all, the filly's ears pinning themselves to her head. "Are we gonna die?" she asked blankly, but with a hint of distress, to nopony in particular.

There had to be something they could do... The train wasn't being pulled by anypony, so it had to run on fuel... Maybe if they just leave the engine alone it'll stop on its own? But what if it doesn't? The pegasus suggestion got her attention... But she wasn't very optimistic about it. "I-I don't think any pagasus in here can catch up to a moving train..."

Speaking of pegasus, Remington was calling for help to close the door. It was all she could think to do to run over and start pushing, as if closing the door would unlock some kind of secret mechanism that would stop the train and save them all! She pushed with all her itty-bitty might with Remington, but it didn't seem to be working. They need more ponies!

River looked around, slight annoyance paving its way in her mind. The orange pegasus had caused the others to panic once again. Chip joined in, too, but she could tell he was just messing around.

She gave the situation a moment of thought. This was a potentially dangerous situation. She didn't know all that much about trains, but she was fairly certain that they would have to stop it before they crashed into something. The light green filly sighed heavily. Looked like she would have to take charge the situation. The earth pony stomped heavily on the ground, ready to raise her voice over the sound of the rushing wind when suddenly...

"Guys! We gotta push this door closed, help me!"

Oh what a relief. She could just go with that for now.

She stepped next to the red pegasus, helping him pushing the door shut. "Come on yer lot, right, let's close this door." She shouted over the noise, putting as much authority in her voice as possible. She had some experience with that, having a brother like Chip, always looking to cause mischief.

"Just a wee more....yer, too, right, Chip.."

(OOC: this could be really wild RP. Would any of the ponies be tech savvy enough to know how a steam train works? attempts to stop it could get really silly :smirk: )

Snails ulped when Valen ran in, saying a lever broke on the train and.. wait, what?

The lanky unicorn did a panic trot in place as he gasped in horror "R-run off a cliff?! Kin trains do that?"

Remington was now wide awake and being buffeted about by the wind rushing through the door in the side and having trouble making himself heard as well from the wind, untill he yelled for help in shutting the door. Okay, that makes sense and is actually doing something.

Snails jumped in to help, pushing with the others as his hooves clacked on the flooring. Snails decided to ask while he pushed "Um d-does anypony know anything about trains?"

Valen wasn't a colt given to acts of heroism or immediate actions. It wasn't due to cowardice or a lack of personal mental fortitude but rather a desire to think things through before he committed himself to action. Sadly, being in a train with increasing speed somewhat sped up the required moments of action and all Valen could do was stand there in somewhat mute terror after he had spoken. That was, until Remington launched himself at the door. Valen wasn't quick to act on his own but once a course of action presented itself, he was more than able to support it.

Valen threw himself at the door, his meager yet valuable experience with the Apple family showing some dividends as he used his slightly inconsequential mass with as much consequence as he could muster. Back hooves on the ground, he threw himself in with the rest as they tried closing the door.

"ALMOST THERE! WE CAN CLOSE THIS DOOR WELL BEFORE WE CRASH INTO A RAVINE OR SOMETHING!" He bellowed, mind not connecting the dots between closing a single door on a train and somehow not crashing. There weren't dots to connect but his mind was heavy in debt to that silly little thing that they had sung about before, and he rather enjoyed the pleasantness of it. It was certainly more attractive than the non-fiction tale of a train, ravine, foals, and sad faces all around.

One by one, the foals lined up as they started pushing the door closed. They were almost there. Until suddenly, Remington's footing was completely lost, and in an attempt to clap with the car floor again, he was striking out. His body began circling like a leaf as his lightweight body tornadoed through the train car in it's last breath of wind. Remington made a few helpless laps, screaming of course, until his trajectory aimed him towards the open door. Remington covered his eyes as he waited for the worst.

But, the door slammed shut, thanks to the multiple strength that all of the other little ponies had temporarily offered Remington. Instead of flying out the door and experiencing probable death falling out of a fast moving train, Rem ran straight into the door head first and landing on his backside to the floor. His legs twitched with the sudden pain, but then relaxed altogether. Remington started snoring. He was alive and fine, but his encounter with the train door had put him bed. At least for Remington, he was asleep, able to escape the terrifying thoughts of peril in a runaway train. If he was conscious to realize it, he couldn't say the same for his newfound friends.

We need to try some stuff to get these ponies off the train. Be creative, and don't be shy.

Remington was safe and sound asleep! But now what? The train was still moving! Fast!

Think Pinchy, THINK!!!! Think you adorable little bundle of fluff, sugar and magic! AH-HA! BRILLIANCE! "I have an idea! You guys wait here!"

The little pink unicorn quickly zipped back into the box with all the costumes in it! After some intense rustling, she leap out of the box now donning an adventurer's hat, much like the one Daring Do wears! "It's okay, guys! I read this in a book once!"

Yes, Daring Do would know how to stop a train speeding to her doom! Striking a heroic and fearless pose, she proceeded to the end of the car and opened the connector door. Looking down, she saw a hook, a ring, a lever, and the tracks speeding underneath the train. "WooOOOoooOOOooo~" Seeing the railroad ties speed by under her like that, and she was standing so close to the edge... It almost gave her vertigo! Her legs trembled a moment, almost forgetting her plan entirely, but it all came back to her! Yes!

Reaching down to the lever, she pulled on it with all her itty bitty might! "Erff... Come... on... stupid... lever!" PINCHY! It's not nice to call things stupid. Regardless, the hook that kept the car connected to the rest of the train started to jostle a bit! Pinchy was in need of assistance once again! Could they separate the car, or would they go with the train off some cliff? Maybe?

Tune in next post!

(BOOYA! 1,000th post)

Snails yelped when Remington was blown around like a leaf and banged up against the door as they got it shut.

Much to his relief, Remington was not hurt, just knocked back asleep.

Snails lifted the visor of the costume knight's helmet stuck on his head and looked at the others "Um, okay, now what? We stopped some of us from bein' blown out the train at least."

Pinchy suddenly jumped up with a Daring Do hat and ran to the connecting door. She was edging out and looking down at the connection to the train.

Suddenly she reached down and was yanking on something "Erff... Come... on... stupid... lever!"

Snails trotted up and looked out the door at the lever she was pulling on "Will that stop the train? Ah'll help with m' horn..."

The unicorn foal moved aside from the door and aimed his horn and strained to get it to work. Sparks sputtered from his horn as he fought to pull the lever with it...

In the commotion, River had barely paid any attention to Chip. Now that the door was finally closed, she noticed that he hadn't been helping after all, but she didn't see him around. He had probably dived into one on the crates again, searching for some kind of treasure no doubt. She sighed heavily, walking up to the nearest crate and tapping her hoof against it.

"Come out, right, Chip." She began, her tone noticably annoyed. "This ain't the bloomin' time for games."

Since there was no reply, she walked up to the next crate. He loved playing games. She knew he did. She'd have to pull him out of it, by his mane if necessary. As always.

From the corner of her eyes, she noticed what the fluffy pink filly and the lanky, ochre stallion were doing. It was a good idea. If they could disconnect the wagon from the locomotive, they would eventually stop, and leave the train, which would probably be safer. But something was off. She just couldn't put her hoof on it.

"Wait, has any pony seen me bruvver?" She asked into the room loudly. She furrowed her brows, trying to figure out what bothered her.

The door slammed shut with all of the force that the foals could muster, a giant metallic clang announcing with finality that the finale of the door-shutting final was over. The final score was thus adorable foals one, train zero. That was a lie as the train probably had a half-dozen points at this stage but Valen was willing to invest in the lie. He took a moment to gather his breath and re-center himself despite the feeling of despnate movement that shot the train down the tracks at speeds that Valen believed even the fastest of pegasi would have issues breaching. It also allowed him to re-assess the situation that surrounded him. Remington had collided into the door and as he was well known to do had fallen asleep. How did the poor thing function in society?

Two others were working on disconnecting the car from its overlord. It was a sound idea, but did they have a way to get back? Trottingham was a fading memory now and while the train was running wild, it also needed fuel and safety procedures had to be in place to stop such an awful crash. As long as they didn't run into cartoon-style open ravines, they should be just fine. Added to that was River seemingly worried about her brother, who truth be told Valen couldn't remember, It was a poor situation to be in all around and Valen couldn't see an easy way out of it. There was only one option to take at the moment, however.

He kindly tapped the two trying to disconnect the train and spoke in a clear voice:

"Stop. We don't know if one of us is on a part of the train that may be disconnected and even if we knew, we'd be stuck in the middle of nowhere," He spoke as calmly as he could. The situation had become gentle enough for he to realize his previous outbursts had been silly. Ponies needed to be calm; an airship crash proved that. He looked around and nodded towards River.

"Well, I'm not certain I remember what he looks like. But if you're gonna search for him, now would be the time," Valen said as he started trotting towards the front of the train. There might not be a way to stop it but by Celestia there had to be a way to slow it down.

Remington saw a train. He was on it. It was moving. Fast. He picked himself up and looked around. The other foals weren't around but other ponies he did not know were, and he spoke the only name he remembered hearing. "Princess Pinchy? Are you here?"

Instead of an adorable pink unicorn responding, Daring Do appeared in front of him with a smile. "I have an idea! You guys wait here!" Wait here? Wait, what? What guys? Remington looked around and couldn't find anypony he recognized, just Daring Do. Daring, who seemed to be very confident, wore her usual exploring hat and gear. She approached the connecting door to the next car and opened it. "It's OK guys, I did this in a book once!" Could Daring Do be a real pony? Remington had always understood the illusion that she was a made up pony. Daring looked down. "Woah!" Nearly slipping, Daring was a little stunned by the rate of speed under the train, but regained her composure. In a test of strength, Daring was trying to unhook the train cars, allowing the one they were on to slow down safely. With the help from an innocent bystander unicorn, Daring Do pulled and tugged on the hook.

"Has anypony seen my foal!?" A lady screamed next to Remington. He felt sorry for her. Looking forward, however, Remington saw a foal in the car ahead. But before he could respond, a mysterious character emerged from the shadows of the train car.

"Stop!" Knocking Daring Do and her partner to the ground, a very large earth pony, with a dark orange burn of a pelt stood towering over everypony in the train car. "You're not going to disconnect this train." His voice was deep and powerful, his smile menacing and unfriendly, his mane dark and unkempt. "You may have hidden the Jewel Saddle from the ancient tomb of Queen Quasar from me, but you've ruined my plans for the last time, Daring Do! You and your partner and these precious little passengers will parish at the bottom of Peril Pit! And as soon as this train crashes, you will be gone, Daring Do, and I, Valicious, mastermind of evil will find that saddle and rule the world! AH HA HA HA HA HA HA!" The villian grabbed something out of his pocket and aimed for the train car connector. In his hooves, he had a welding torch, and he fused the train cars together, making it impossible to unhook the connector. He looked up and a rope ladder fell from an airship that was being piloted by his accomplices. He grabbed it with one hoof. "Soon, Equestria will learn to respect and honor the best pony that ever lived!" His looked at Daring, evilly. "Valicious!"

Pinchy was about to voice the logical objection that nopony currently on the train has any experience with locomotives and their engine systems, nor do they know when the next station will be upon them and how to use the brakes to stop at said station. Quite clearly the best possible solution was to unhook the car and let the train come to a complete and safe stop while the engine continues onward. After all, the find gentlecolts who she presumed were the engineers will indubitably report the wild train and the car would be found assuredly.

But before she could say any of that stuff, Valen went on ahead to search the cars they were trying to disconnect. Oh well! Fixing her Daring Do hat, she went onward to assist with the search, though her #1 focus was still stopping the train. So they wouldn't... You know, die. It was either that, or the train would just keep going forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever! They'd become train bums! Or the train would run out of fuel, and and and they'd get stranded in space somehow! That'd be cool! To become an astronaut because of a runaway train!

Or the train would stop in the middle of nowhere... Except for the train astronaut thing, it didn't seem all that appealing either way.

"CHIIIIIIP~!" she called, trying to bring her voice above the sound of the speeding train

(OOC: Remington suggested what Snails ends up doing by accident...)

Snails was pointed at the lever controlling the traincar connector while Pinchy worked at it, concentrating hard on using his horn to move it and did not hear River ask about her brother. This might have made him pause and check if Chip was in the train ahead.

Instead, Valen tapped on him and Pinchy, warning them not to disconnect from the train.

He had been so focused, the sudden touch startled him, making him jump a bit and bang his head on the safety railing keeping ponies from falling off the train.

Snails' eyes derped and a bright flash jumped from his horn like lightning, -right into the connector!

"Owww, why do they call these things safety railings, eh? Thet really hurt!"

He ulped at the smell of hot metal and looked down to see what he had done.

"Ummm, Ah dont think stoppin us from unhitchin' will be a problem, Valen..." as he pointed at the lever welded in place...

The front of the train didn't offer any new clues or hints to Valen, being just as much a mess of levers, buttons and signs that meant nothing to him. At the very least he had stopped them from unhitching the cart, which would have alleviated the feeling of chaos a bit but would have left them worse off than before. Being on a run away train is bad. Being stuck in the middle of nowhere was worse, because at least on a train there was bound to be food. And warmth, which was another thing he valued pretty highly. All things considered, food and warmth were major advantages that he was happy to take advantage of.

He was ruminating on these fine things when all sorts of lights started flashing wildly around him and the train lurched ahead. Valen bonked his head on something, but by this point his skull had grown accustomed to such shocks. Something was blinking regarding a connector and lights were flashing with greater colour and intensity. Valen panicked and started flailing against them. Eventually, all sorts of green lights flashed and Stalliongrad appeared in white letters on black border. Another lurch and he was sent flying backwards into the cabin with the others.

"Uggghhh....I guess we're heading to...Stalliongrad...what in blue blazes is going on here?"

"Chiiiiiiip" River yelled once again, trotting slowly towards the wagon in front of them. "Come out! Where are yer?"

There was a commotion up ahead, and maybe, just maybe, it had been because of the combined yells of the other foals and River, but back into the wagon jumped an excited Chip, grinning triumphantly, between his teeth holding a bundle of small objects in a piece of cloth. He put it on the ground carefully, and as the damp fabric unfolded it revealed a bunch of fresh apples.

"I found food! Struth!" He said proudly, like he had made fire in a snowstorm. He grinned brightly, much to the dismay of his sister, who had walked up to him, and now gave him a playful, yet painful punch on the shoulder.

"Foalish bruvver." She began calmly. "We were worried about yer! Oi!"

She glanced around the wagon, into the faces of the other fillies and colts. An orange colt took that moment to come rolling back into their midst. Apparently the next stop was Stalliongrad. She had never heard about it.

"We still don't know 'ow ter put the mockers on the bloomin' train!" Chip squeaked happily.

Before Valicious left the scene, he added a situation to make matters worse. He took a torch and set the inside of the train cabin on fire, but only after he set the destination for Stalliongrad. "Hahahaha! Have fun burning in Stalliongrad!"

"What the blazes!?" Daring Do ran around in circles causing panic in everypony's minds and hearts. Remington started getting really scared and the fire surrounded him. Daring Do just complained. "But I don't wanna go to Stalliongrad!"

The fire reached Remington and...

"BAAAhhhawahhhh!" Remington woke up fiercely. "Get it off! Get it off!" Remington started rolling around violently, trying to put out the flames, before he stopped into one of the standing ponies and realized he was dreaming it all. "Oh, uh. I had a nightmare. Again." Remington rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Sorry."

Remington knew that he could subconsciously hear things in his dreams that were happening in the real world. It was a strange phenomenon to him. "So we're going to Stalliongrad?"

Yuki, a navy blue pegasus who was simply flying around, spotted the train and the worried looks everyone had. Seeing that they were in trouble, he decided to try and help

"Well, looks like they're headed to Stalliongrad... yeah that doesn't sound good. DON'T WORRY GUYS I'M COMING!"

Yuki dashed toward the front of the train, slightly waving at valen as he crashed into the door behind him.

"owww... that hurt"

Yuki sloppily stood up, and came back to most of his senses.

"Right, uuh, whats the problem?"
