The only thing that annoyed me so far was the fact that they're doing the same live action host thing they did for the wedding episode. This time with a 'Miss America', which I also found out they still have. Guess we'll get another "BETTER TAKE RARITY TO THE VET!" bit. :scream:

So MLP:FiM, created by Lauren Faust, a feminist, is being hosted by Miss America 2013?

Actually, nope, not gonna touch that conversation with a D&D standard 10 ft pole.....

Also,moar comma's,,,,,,,

Anyone who wins the title of Miss America for a particular year is obligated to show up anywhere the Miss America Organization wants them to show up, usually to perform roles like advocacy or being a spokesperson. There's really no need for concern unless Miss Mallory Hagan yaps about how important it is to look pretty and all that junk.

Miss American or not, I can't figure out why the Hub feels the need to drag these C or D level celebrities out to do these little little bits. Even if they didn't use the awesome and well spoken folks who work or have worked on the show like your Lauren Fausts or Jayson Thiessen, Andrea Libman, Nicole Oliver or ANYONE that works on the show..They could find interesting celebrities who either like the show or at least know it exists...Like Simon Pegg..Imagine a bit with him and Nick Frost going on about the show. I'd pay to see that! ;)

This is a tall order for Studio B. Until I see the ep, I have no faith whatsoever that they can pull off making Twilight an Alicorn permanently. It doesn't help matters that she's already having trouble with her powers every now and then, and that it's inconsistently displayed. Not to mention, this kind of validates alicorn oc's, if we take Cadence into account. If godhood can just be handed out like candy. It won't happen in anything canon on this board, but honestly, I see nothing good or remotely interesting coming of this.

They took the I win button and made it an I WIN button.

I think the gist is that Twilight isn't going to magically be all-powerful once this change takes place. She'll have difficulties to deal with, just on a new level and with a different angle.

I also think everyone's apprehension may be with the fact that this development feels like more of a toy push than a character-driven story push on Hasbro's part. I can understand that. We also owe it to ourselves to actually watch the episode before forming opinions about it -- good or bad -- or it's just throwing unfounded negative bias at the cartoon we love.

No, it doesn't and you will never see alicorn OCs accepted into World of Equestria.

This needs to happen! I adore Simon Pegg. He and Nick Frost have the best chemistry ever, but seeing as how they are real life BFFs that would work so well having them discuss My Little Pony together. My favorite pairing they did was Hot Fuzz, one of my favorite movies ever. Then again I love director Edgar Wright who directed it. The man should be directing the new Star Wars movies if you ask me instead of JJ Abrams.

One has to remember that the people to animate and write MLP:FiM are completely different people then Hasbro's marketing department; the latter has always just viewed things in a stereotypical prism of "what little girls want". "Well all little girls want to be princesses right?" Says the Hasbro marketing department, none of which are fans of the show and depend solely on their marketing backgrounds and grounded stereotypes. What Marketing wants is what marketing gets because it is they who are supposed to figure out how to get all the money, so if Marketing wants the main character a princess and Miss America hosting, well the writers and animators have no choice, because guess who the executives listen to first. All the latter can do is work to make the next story possible with the constraints they have; it has always been this way.

Thank Celestia there is an entire creative fandom that is unrestricted.

One of the assumptions people are making is that Twilight somehow automatically becomes super-powerful and has to immediately leave to Canterlot to be put in a leadership position. Think about Cadance though. She was already an Alicorn when Twilight was little, and she was a babysitter. Not exactly a high governmental position. It wasn't until years later that she seemed to become a leader in the Crystal Empire. I'm really hoping to get some kind of background on Cadance in next weekend's episode, or at least her communicating with Celestia going "She's ready."

Wasn't Cadence's alicorn status also directly linked to Hasbro going for the money? And didn't serve any real purpose but to break consistency within the series proper? Which is broken further now that Twilight can do it? Earlier in this thing, when I said this will legalize Alicorn OC's, I mean that basically, as long as you put the effort into spewing the right excrement, you too can have an alicorn. Twilight's destiny may prove fruitful for her, but if her friends were nothing more than a gambit by Celestia to get Twilight to this point, we might as well call this "Friendship is A Means To An End" and not "Friendship is Magic".

As the wise Snoop Doggy Dogg once said, "It ain't no fun, 'less my homie got some."

Yes, it was a toy promotion, I can't question that. If you really want to get into it, the whole SHOW is a well written toy commercial. But the show writers didn't treat it as such. The characters were introduced with backgrounds and personalities. These writers take the requests that Hasbro gives them, and turn them into something entertaining. Don't count them out just yet.

What consistency? It was never stated in the series anywhere that Luna and Celestia were the only alicorns. In fact they never really established in the show's mythology what an alicorn really is or where they come from, or what makes one. The fandom just filled in the details themselves in headcanon.

I have a song for this occasson (with apologies to AppleJack)

Jump the shark, jump the shark, 1 2 3 4

Now this show has jumped the shark, 1 2 3 4

Giving Twilight wings with horn

That is worse than Discord porn

Time to kiss the show goodbye

Cause with fans, this just won't fly!

Jump the shark, jump the shark, 1 2 3 4

Now this show has jumped the shark, 1 2 3 4

Once this show was cool and great

But alicorn Twi is second rate

Sad to see this program die

All because of winged Twi

Jump the shark, jump the shark, 1 2 3 4

Now this show has jumped the shark, 1 2 3 4

The cartoon writers stole our joy

Just so Hasbro sells more toys

This idea's really dense

Doesn't make a lick of sense!

They killed this show, killed this show, yes they did

Yes they really killed this show, yes they did

They shunned the fans that count the most

Pony fans from coast to coast

All because they cannot see

The end of the line for. My Little Pony!!!

** takes a bow **

It was pretty clear that Lauren Faust intended Luna and Celestia to be the only Alicorns. Princess Cadance was supposed to only be a unicorn, she was changed to an Alicorn behind her back.

You know, I wanted to let the whole "jump the shark" part that you posted earlier go. After all you made your opinion known and we will see how the episode plays out, but with this latest post with the song, now you are just being annoying.

What is "Jumping the Shark"? Well it is defined as: 1) The moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality that is beyond recovery. 2) To the point in a television program's history when the program have outlived its freshness beyond the essential qualities that initially defined its success, beyond recovery.

So that begs the question, what about Twilight becoming an Alicorn causes the show to start to decline? Was it the story around her becoming an alicorn? Well we don't know the story yet so we cannot say that with any confidence. Is it the fact she is one (temporary or permanently)? If so, how so? We can't really say its a Mary Sue moment (another term people don't really understand but love to toss about in self-righteousness), because she already is the main character, established as special with incredible magical potential with a destiny. Would this move kill the freshness and essential qualities of the show?

I don't see it that way. How long can the show keep its freshness and quality without having the characters change in some significant way? Sure they have grown in their character development, but there is only so many routes you can go and still keep the essential characters without some major life altering event. Well now you have that.

Think of the potential new stories with Twilight having to handle suddenly being elevated to this level. Celestia and Luna have been like this for millennia, Cadance grew up always being this way, for Twilight it is a sudden radical change. How will she deal with her new responsibilities? Her new powers? How will her friends react and handle this? in what ways is their friendship threatened and how can they all work to overcome this? What will become of them all? Was this all for some greater purpose and will twilight be ready to handle whatever happens?

I see nothing but story potential.

Behind her back? She wasn't even part of the show's staff anymore officially in season two. What one intended in the beginning is great but that doesn't make it canon.

Alright, alright. I can take a hint. When they move Twilight to the castle, I'll fake a visit from the Crystal Empire, steal her wings in the night, and blame Shining Armor. She'll expect me to understand godhood being thrust upon her, like we've had similar situations and whatnot. Blame will be easy to displace... After all, who doesn't trust this face?

How will Twilight's friends react to her being even more important than she already is godhood?

BLADOW.

All I see in that is more story potential (although fandom driven). Imagine staying the same youthful self while all your friends grow old and pass away.

Actually in Season 2 she was still a Consulting Producer, so she was still a part of the show in Season 2. Season 3 is the first time she hasn't been a part of the show.

Remember how upset people were about the Royal Wedding promotion?

That turned out awesome!!

Just give it a chance. The writers for this show are the best around.

Hey. Heyyyyyyyyy.

Remember Dragon Quest? And MMDW? :D
