The Mansion of Mayhem (Closed)

Another year, another Nightmare Night. One would think that the spooky gimmicks of the day would eventually get old to someone like Discord, but of course that wasn't the case. It was by far his favorite holiday, and probably always will be. Seriously, what other day could you be able to do whatever you wanted in terms of pranks and actually get away with it?

The idea appeared in his mysterious mind several years ago. Sure, pulling all the pranks you could imagine was fun and all, but you could only scare so many people in one day. So why not lead some ponies into his traps, and have them constantly be unknown to what would happen next. Why not...create a haunted house?

He was putting the finishing touches on his creation- every room, every corner, everything was perfect. In fact, Discord was so what surprised at how well the plan had gone in the past few years. All that was needed was a rumor about treasure, and they swarmed to the house like ants!

Oh, but it was almost time. The weather forecast? Partly cloudy, perfect for a Nightmare Night. Though all that was needed was the ominous breeze, and then everything was good to go. Discord dove into the shadows, watching, waiting to see who would arrive...

--

This was stupid.

The thought replayed itself endlessly through Blitz Trigger's head as he walked. No way that this place existed, just another dumb rumor that someone in the REA just had to spread across the rest of Equestria. Only a fool would be out here right now.

And yet, here he was. Walking the dirt path that seemed to lead the way. As much as he didn't want to believe it, the stories that the stallion heard...bothered him. Well, not in the usual way anyways. They were told in a way that was so believable for some reason. Not to mention the treasure. A lifetime's supply of bits, and the key to a perfect life? Who wouldn't want that? Besides, it's been a while since the unicorn went on a good solo adventure, even if this did prove to be a bust.

But it it wasn't long before the smaller-than-average stallion reached a clearing, with a strange breeze blowing through his mane. One look at the house was enough to tell him that it wasn't a hoax.

"Well whaddya know, looks like I won't be getting revenge on the guys any timesoon," He muttered to himself, glancing around to see if he could find any hidden clues.

It had been about a week ago when Caber first heard of some creepy old mansion in the middle of the woods. In all honesty hearing about these kind of urban legends were far from the interests of Caber, yet here he found himself walking down the old path to get to the mansion. Curiosity, wanderlust, and an urge to get some ancient treasure were all factors that led Caber to go to the mansion, but little by little he began to feel more superstitious the more he walked down the path.

'Look on the bright side,' Caber thought to himself, 'If there's any monsters out here then maybe they got some job offerings.' The idea certainly gave Caber some comfort but didn't really ease him.

Eventually he came to the end of the path and stopped and stared at the mansion at the end. The fact that it looked like the mansion was just plopped in the middle woods added to the creepy vibe Caber was picking up on. After a minute or so of just gawking  at the mansion he began eyeing the bottom of it for anything interesting, and there certainly was. In fact there was another pony here that seemed to be looking around as well, a stallion in fact.

"What the..." He muttered to himself as he squinted to get a better look at the stallion, he quickly figured that he aught to just watch the pony from a distance since he clearly wasn't very qualified for this.

Quite a few pomnies had been suprised when they say the filly, rather expecting her to wear the same costume she wore every year --- paint herself blue and her mane rainbow with a taped on cutiemark. But this year was different, suprisingly she wasn't hiding who she was, no doubt very proud of her cutiemark, instead she was dressed as some sort of adventurer, no doubt inspired by Daring Do, wearing a faux-leather vest and hat with a whip on her side and fake leather saddlebags (or more likely her own saddlebags just wrapped ion fake leather)

She stood and stared at the mansion and gulped. Now she was wondering what had possessed her to come here... this was such a creepy place, and the stories only made it worse - including one rumor that if you werent out of the house by dawn then you'd dissapear with it for a whole year! But she gulped hard and pushed her hat forward. She wasn't a little filly anymore! She had her cutiemark and now she was going to prove just how brave she could be.

Scootaloo stood on the east side of the house, completely unaware that any other ponies were also entering from other sides, instead she was looking at an open window, she took a few steps back and ran, jumping, using ehr wings to give her a little boost as she hooked her front legs over the window and slowly but surely pulled herself in, looking around she pulled out a flshlight, half expec ting to see nothing interesting and half expecting to see the place crawling with monsters... and at the moment she really wasn't sure which of the two she would prefer....

Great. Another Nightmare Night, another day he had to be on duty. Darky sighed at that. The grey pegasus in black armor was walking around the main streets of Ponyville to make guard during this year's Nightmare night. The cons of being a Night guard. Well, what could he do? Orders are orders. Well, at least he could see interesting costumes and games around, but there was something quite odd around... something about a haunted house and a treasure in it, a rumor made by the REA. Odd that they would do that, but if it was true... what if ponies where in danger?!

Darky shook his head and took those ideas of, but there was something more to this, he knew it. Also, what if he found that treasure? IT would be interesting and rather amazing. He could do a lot of stuff with it! Quit his job and become a famous pony, get a nice house in Canterlot, even ask princess L- ahhh! Stop daydreaming!

"Alright, got to focus on what am I doing..." He calmly said to himself, but by the point he noticed, he was already walking towards everfree to see that haunted house. "Oh well... i am here now... worth giving it a look." Darky said calmly to himself as she walked down the road.

As soon as he arrived, he saw the house. Well, it was impressive for him. Quite interesting in fact, but what was it doing there? And where there more ponies in there? Just one way to find out...

He kept walking until he noticed two more ponies. Two stallions, possibly treasure hunters that wanted to get the treasure also. He couldnt blame them.

Flux loved this time of year! All the festivities, all the ponies having fun, all the candy! And on top of that, she got to walk around without a disguise on! The changeling bounced happily along as she headed for a mansion she had heard about. It sounded fun, and it apparently only showed up once a year, so she wanted to check it out!

When she reached the building, she stopped and admired it for a little bit, giving a small ooh sound as she looked at the building. She noticed what looked like a pony entering one of the windows, making her look at the window and blink slightly in confusion. After a few moments, she headed over to the open window and hopped up to look through to the inside. Upon spotting the filly, she smiled widely and climbed into the building, wiggling her way through the open window and landing on her hooves inside.

"Hiya!" She chirped, a wide smile on her face as her solid purple eyes watched the filly expectantly. "How you doing?"

Nightmare Night at Ponyville! While Fast Track had  missed the previous two holidays in the sleepy little village, it was probably for the best, as one was nearly ruined by an grouchy Princess Luna, and the one after that was actually messed up by a horde of evil changelings. This one was rather low-key. There were plenty of houses to go trick or treating at. The little town had all sorts of fun actives set up for both kids and adults. And the colt had been enjoying the holiday with his friend Wind Walker until she overdosed on gummy. Gummy bears. Gummy dragons (with a cinnamon filling.) Gummy owls. Gummy chocolate covered horns and even gummy gum. It was too much gummy for the filly to handle, so she had to go home and rest her tummy.

This gave the colt some time alone, and he would have spent the rest of the night in Ponyville, but he had heard talk of an actual super-special haunted house that had been set up outside of Ponyville. And being a rather big fan of ‘haunted houses’, the colt didn’t have to think twice before joining the small group of ponies who left to check out this Nightmare Night spook-show. This was something he had experienced before. Ponies would turn their homes into HAUNTED HOUSES or CASTLES..Or Dungeons..Or even ships...There would be spooky music playing...There would be ponies in costumes..And these would always end up with some sort of party a the end. Maybe there would be an costume contest as well! He was sure to win! The colt was dressed as one of his heroes, the great Savery Steam-Whistle, one of the inventors of the steam engine! This involved wearing an fancy top hat, goggles and a brown vest.

Fast Track arrived with the others and could not help but be impressed. This sure looked like a proper haunted house! Maybe someponies fixed up an old and abandoned house just for the holiday. He glanced over at the others and noticed there were more adults than kids for this adventure. He saw an rather stout earth pony that sort of reminded him of his friend Dunder. There was also a cute little orange Pegasus filly dressed as Daring Do. There was also a grey Pegasus dressed up as some sort of guard. And another...Hey wait! The filly was cutting ahead...And skipping a bunch of rooms! That’s cheating!

After releasing his wings, the colt headed up to the open window and room the filly had entered. “Come on! You’re not supposed to go there!”, he groaned, “You gotta take the entrance or you’ll miss the cool intro these things always have.”

Glimmer giggled as she pounced along, her little pet armadillo Lula rolling along, going forward each time Glimmer pounced at her balled up pet.

It was Nightmare Night, and Glimmer had a haunted house to venture through! But of course, no venture can be undertaken without the proper garment. And since it was Nightmare Night, Glimmer had a good idea of what she wanted to be.

With a few kitty eyes to her brother, and a few bits, she had now a home made costume of Aerial Airheart, a famous Griffon explorer and flier. Who also happened to go missing during one of her ventures when passing through a place called Horrors Triangle. Lulu also had a costume, her shell was painted gold so that when she rolled up she looked like a golden orb. What explorer didn't have a treasure with her?

"Oh this is going to be soooooo exciting!" Glimmer cheered, picking up Lulu and bolting off as she couldn't wait anymore.

Glimmer was so excited to go on an adventure. Her brother Razor always had some wild adventure now and then, and Glimmer always wanted to have one herself. But either her parents told her no, or her brother would keep her from anything dangerous or fun; sometimes even chaperoning. Glimmer could understand why they did it, they loved her and wanted her to be safe.

'But I'm a big griffon now. Mommy and Daddy even let me travel alone to meet Razor now. So I'm old enough to go into a haunted house by myself.' She thought, puffing her chest out in a display of confidence before going into a giggling fit.

This was going to be so cool.

Arriving at her destination, Glimmer gulped once and her legs shook at the spooky sight.

"Wow...this is creepy." She said, and she hug Lulu close to her.

As she made her way closer to the house, Glimmer gasped when she saw a familiar face.

It was Fast Track! Glimmer smiled and flew off to meet him; but before she could get to him he had slipped in through a window.

"Oooh, sneaky." Glimmer said, and she flapped her wings to follow through.

Glimmer slowly opened the window, careful to not let it squeak and she looked down into the room.

She then saw that Fast Track was with an orange filly. Glimmer mentally gasped. Was tracking seeing another filly!?! Deciding to act, Glimmer shook her self through and pounced down onto the unsuspecting colt.

"Boo!" She shouted, giggling at the idea of also scaring them. It was Nightmare Night after all. And she landed onto of Fast Track, wrapping her claws around him in a tight hug.

"Tracky! I missed you." She said, squeezing the poor colt like how she saw Miss Pinkie Pie do when she hugged.

Lulu merely rolled up into a ball and sat there beside them, but Glimmer knew her pet was actually in deep thought.

Agile was going around the city as part of his night shift. He was a brave stallion, was not easily scared. Usually. He squinted at a nearby house, no, a mansion. Strange...I've never seen it before. He headed closer to check it out, and saw a few other ponies gathered there, "Hello! Royal Guard Agile Speeds here-have any one you seen this house before? It looks mighty suspicious, and not just because it's Nightmare Night,". Something nagged in his mind, and he decided to stay with the group-so,bathing about this mansion was wrong, very, very wrong.

  • 3 weeks later...

As the ponies arrived, Discord decided that it was tie to deploy his completely fool-proof new spell. He could shapeshifter and heck, even flatten himself into Celestia's stained glass windows, so makining himself completely invisible wasn't too far of a stretch. He had done it a couple times before, but nopony had actually seen him...pun intended.

But as he hovered around his marvelous creation that was the mansion, Discord noticed something strange. Two groups of ponies were gathering- one at the main entrance, and a group of foals...well, and ome mare who acted like a foal, gathering at the east side. The kids would be much more vulnerable targets he decided, and the draconequus quickly teleported himself over to where they were. He couldn't help but let out a chuckle as he watched - so playful, acting as if they had no idea what ever were getting into. Oh, but there was no time to watch. Entertainment came by doing, after all!

But first things first, he had to make sure there was no going back. A simple spell, taking the shards of glass that was broken into and molding them together to form a window again. Certainly enough to get the foals' attention away from their all to idle conversation. They appeared to be in a bedroom of the mansion, ironically one suited for a pony their age. An unmade bed was placed in the center, with ancient looking toys scatter aped around the floor. Even a few vintage Wonderbolts figurines. There was also an open doorway, leading into the dark hallway that lay before then. Of course, everything looked as if it hadn't had a good dusting in a thousand years.Curious, Discord decided to see what they would explore first.

He then teleported himself back to the entrance, making arrangements for what the stallions would see when they walked inside...

--

Perhaps Blitz had been admiring the mansion for too long, but it wasn't like he had anything better to do before actually stepping inside. It wasn't until he heard the voice of another stallion that he had spun around to see who else had shown up. There was an earth pony who was doing the same as he just was, as well as one...no, two more Royal Guards? Well, one was a night guard, but still. Oh well, at least he didn't recognize either of them. "Blitz Trigger, REA comrade. I'm just here for the treasure." he said with a semi-polite nod. He wasn't wearing his own armor either, he never wore it unless he had to, so he at least decided to mention that he was a Guard as well.

But standing around  doing introductions was a waste of time, and so Blitz decided to stop standing around and walk inside. The place was just as impressive as it was on the outside - old, dusty, cobwebs everywhere. Some sound could be heard not too far away, like the scuttling of some sort of animal. Great. He just hoped he could find this treasure before the others.

It didn't take long for Blitz to notice the different amount of pathways before him. To his left was a short hallway, ending in stairs leading downward, probably to a basement. That would be a good place to hide gold. Straight ahead was a longer hallway, he couldn't tell what exactly was on the other end, but it seemed like a big room of some sort. And to his right was a spiral staircase, quite the rickety looking one, but who knows what was upstairs.

Blitz sighed, turning to face his 'party.' "You know what? I'll be nice, the first decision's all yours. Personally, I vote basement." There was a hint of sarcasm in his voice, but then again there always was. Still, if he was a rich mansion owning pony, he'd hide his stuff in the basement too.
