Nasty
Okay, call me sick minded for calling out a kid's show, but please tell me I'm not the only one who finds it odd to see a dragon that's attracted to a pony.Any thoughts as to why? Maybe there are actual 'Dronies' XD?
Ginger Mint
hi hiWay I see it, its just one of those harmless little crushes that kids get sometimes. I mean, sometimes people will see a cute fuzzy animal and go "Awww! its so adorable!" so it doesn't seem that strange to me.
Nasty
Interesting. Only, there is a difference between adorable and "She looks sexeh." But, it isn't necessarily me crying out about it, I'd just like to see if others wondered or thought a reason up as to why.
JCtheBrony
Spike's a little kid with a crush on the pony who acts the most feminine out of everyone he spends time with. It's really not all that surprising. You'll see a lot of little crushes that really mean nothing in kids shows everywhere; it's a fairly common trope. Nasty
Interesting thought. I think I needed that considering my mind is a dark, scary place. I wonder is there ARE Dronies though... That'd be cool.
MyLittlePonyTales
It's like the fifth grader who has a crush on a teacher who's like, twenty years older. It's never going to work, it'll never happen, and with time, the crush will fade and the child will look back on that time in their life and laugh. Nasty
Hmm, true. But see, it'd be like if I was attracted to a bear. "Oh gawd, jus' lookat it." That may not be the same, but do you get what I mean?
RarityDash
Spike was raised by ponies. He's always been surrounded by ponies. All his close friends are ponies. He probably thinks he is a pony on some level. Or at least the idea of being attracted to a pony doesn't occur to him as the least bit odd. Davroth
No, I'm sorry, Dranies wouldn't be cool. They would be terrifying. Shrek proofed that already.
DantonDamnark
Do you find it weird that a Hispanic little girl goes on adventures with a talking monkey that wears boots?Seriously, it's just a cartoon.

MyLittlePonyTales
@Tales:Nope, sorry, they are still terrible abominations. I've seen Shrek. Also remember that they are Dragon X Donkey, not Dragon X magical pony.
Davroth
I've seen Shrek. Also remember that they are Dragon X Donkey, not Dragon X magical pony.Same difference Also just because there exists a highly idealized illustration of a crossbread of a pony and a dragon doesn't mean that's how it would turn out. brianblackberry
He could see her as "a rare gem" in an strange sort of way as part of his dragon instinct to desire and collect beautiful and exquisite objects (and hoard them). Because rarity is presented as striking among ponies and own love of gems, he could see her as a living rare gem like object himself even if he doesn't really understand the reason for his crush/desire yet. FIM Fan
I agree with Tales. This just seems like that one older teacher you really had a crush on who is a lot older then you . With time the attraction fades off. I have seen a lot worse pairings in cartoons and movies anyway.
DantonDamnark
Adding to the Dragon/Pony(Donkey) hybrid, in Shrek the Dragon was female. And in nature a simple reversal of gender can make a difference.Male Lion + Female Tiger = LigerFemale Lion + Male Tiger = Tiglon
flutterscotch
I think it's also a reference on Faust's part to the previous incarnation of Spike's relationship with a unicorn who looks a lot like Rarity.

I seem to recall it ending in a rather macabre way as well...
Acynder
It's just a crush. Kinda liked Aht with Stocke from Radiant Hstoria. It will pass.
Nasty
Very interesting replies. I rather like brianblackberry's. That explanation makes it make lot's of sense; I do hope that is the reason as to why. Lovely Shrek refs as well. But I still thinks Dronies would be epic. Willow Whisper
Dragons in fantasy series are always falling in love with everything. They live for so long that it would probably be pretty common for one to get a crush on a lesser race. Pony romances must seem so flittingly bittersweet for a dragons, since ponies live such short lives. Dragons live so long they most likely have a magic all their own as Unicorns do, and in many fantasy universes dragons can take on different forms often to form half dragon children. I could easily see this fitting into Equestria. Also, less like 'dranies' and more like Kirin.Dragon horses/unicorns, mang. I would so role play one.
Nasty
Lovely. I'll start calling them dranies since everyone prefers it.
