  1. // sorry i should've linked the page earlier. That's the Canterlot.com canon for bat ponies //

Rose was honestly relieved. This was the first time she met somepony new and they didn't so much as mention her race. Normally, by now, she'd be explaining herself to them and answering questions. She didn’t mind it, really, but it was nice to just be, for once. She smiled as the spa pony talked about the service she recommended, when somepony in the back called out.

She thought about the invitation for a second, and laughed a little. "It'll be nice to have somepony to talk to." She decided. She happily followed the mare into the back, excited to meet this other pony who'd invited her to join. "Thank you." she offered with a smile as the spa pony lead.

// PS. I only know thestrals from the Harry Potter movie where they're introduced, so it just seemed like something totally different, to me haha //

  2. // lol guys she's an Aerion (aka batpony) I don't even know if Thestrals are an accepted race on Canterlot. Tho that would be pretty cool. Her name (the first one) on her introductory post is a link to her character application if you want to check it out. //

Rose smiled "My name is Compass Rose." she introduced "You can call me Rose." she glanced at the pamphlets she'd seen earlier but decided she didn't need them "As for what I would like, um..... I don't know. I've never been to a spa, before. I just see this place at night a lot and thought I'd come try it out during the day." she realised she hadn't thought ahead about this part. She'd never been to a spa before, and she didn't know what she might want here. "What would you suggest?" she asked of the spa pony. She figured she knew their treatments well enough, and probably had something she would suggest for a newcomer.

// oh also i thought Thestrals were hairless? //

  3. @Aisede I would not have guessed you were a "greenie" from how you were roleplaying in that post I joined! I suppose a second welcome is in order. Welcome to Canterlot. ;)

(PS. I'm not sure if you're aware, or if it's just your character who isn't, but Compass Rose is not a thestral. lol Click on her name to see her application ;) )

  4. Welcome, Blueberry! I'm not an admin, but please do read the General Rules and the RP Rules and Etiquitte. They seem to have been (perhaps accidentally) moved from their usual place on the homepage, but are still just as important. We are all eager to see your contributions to this site! Feel free to browse till your heart's content and when you're ready, make sure to apply one of your own characters to get started (here's a guide to making a good application).

In any case, welcome to Canterlot! I look forward to seeing you around! ;)

Compass Rose still wasn't all that used to being out in broad daylight, but she'd made a commitment to check out at least one of Ponyville's businesses while it was open, for once, each couple days. Today, she decided the spa was a great option. She'd seen it many times at night, and even once when it was just being closed for the day (that was an early night for her). But she grew tired of seeing places and not getting to meet anypony. She'd already mapped out Ponyville rather exhaustively, and even mapped a vast majority of the Everfree Forest, mostly from the sky, but not always. But she needed to put all that aside, today. She was going to make the most of her first visit to a spa.

She frowned. She wished she could fly over there like she did at night, but the day's sun was too hot for her wings to spread comfortably. She was already getting uncomfortable from the sun as it was. She looked in the general direction of the sun with a little contempt. She wished she had some way to make the daytime more comfortable so she could meet ponies more often.

As she approached the spa, she sighed in relief. Indoors would definitely be better, she mused. She almost knocked on the door, but remembered that kind of courtesy wasn't expected at a business during hours.

She walked inside and looked around. It was nice enough. Cozy. Warm, but not hot. Best of all, the sun wasn't beating down on her sensitive, nocturnal skin, anymore. As she examined her surroundings, committing it all to her near-perfect photographic memory as always, she noticed a coat and hat rack tucked in a corner. Perfect. She shed her protective sun hat and sun glasses and hung the hat on the rack, slipping the glasses into the hat's band.

Now comfortably exposed, Rose went to the reception desk and rang the bell, eager to meet her fifth pony since arriving in Ponyville months ago.

  6. Flower Love prepped herself in the mirror, taking extra care to make her appearance presentable today. It's not every day you get to influence politics in Equestria, afterall. She cursed herself for not having had the presence of mind to visit Carousel Boutique or at least the Ponyville Spa before today was upon her.

"Oh well," she thought "It's just as well. I am just taking a stroll down the street. I wouldn't want to overdress."

Though she did like to dress up on the occasion, she figured this may not be it. All the same, she fussed in the mirror. When she finally decided she was presentable, she opened her flower shop door and cantered down the street toward City Hall.

Now was the time to think about her candidate choices. If she was honest with herself, she was torn. On the one hoof, you have an experienced businessmare who knows the ins and outs of politics and who will, no doubt, do great things for Ponyville.... but who is quite frankly not a likeable pony. Flower Love may be biased against the high society types, but even a blind pony— "no offense Myth" she silently offered her not-present blind friend from Canterlot —could see that she was.... sour. for lack of a better word. And while her expertise was needed, she knew that another important job of any government body was public relations, and just generally being somepony others can get behind.

On the other hoof, she had the option of a friendly amiable pony who, tho he wasn't from Ponyville, also came from Canterlot— "I mean..." she thought "I may have been born in Manehattan, but Canterlot is more familiar." —which wasn't that big a deal, but it meant a little to her. However, he did not have experience on his side. He had some good ideas for a starting point, and he'd likely enlist some help no problem, but experience was pretty important.

And so Flower's thoughts continued as she maintained her graceful canter toward the Hall.

She greeted the odd pony here and there who she'd seen about, and offered friendly pleasantries to any who would stop long enough to hear them. When she arrived in line, she could see a booth of sorts being held by a friendly-looking pony she hadn't met before. She figured she'd give it a look before she headed in. She was always up for supporting local business, and meeting new ponies.

As she waited in line, she saw a pony with a rather nice looking sun hat trotting by "I am loving your sun hat!" she offered genuinely. "Almost makes me wish I'd brought my own!"

"O-Oh, this?" the pony stopped to gesture at the hat "It's just to protect me from the sun. I'm not used to sunlight...."

It was only at this moment, Flower realised she was speaking to an Aerion. She'd studied about them in Celestia's School, but never really met one in person. "Oh! Yes, your eyes. Hence the sunglasses as well. I've never met an Aerion in person! Tho then again, since Twilight's school opened I've been meeting a lot of creatures I've never seen in person. Why, just the other day, i had a dragon come to my shop! Imagine that! A dragon!" she went on excitedly

Rose was happy somepony had addressed her species correctly, for once, but she been out in the sun a few minutes too long already. "Hey, I'm glad you're excited and all, but... I've gotta get home...."

"Oh. Right. I'm sorry. Maybe another time? After Dark?"

."Sure. I'd love a good chat. My place is out that way" she gestured "just outside the forest. If you feel up to it, I'm usually awake sundown to sunup."

Flower and Rose exchanged goodbyes but forgot to exchange names. Probably never to meet again.

Just then, her attention, like everypony else's, was stolen by a rather.... royal arrival. The new ruler of Equestria, and— in Flower's totally not biased mind (sarcasm) —the only princess who'd actually earned all the respect she got. She happily bowed to her highness as she arrived and wondered who she'd be voting for. Having grown the most in Ponyville, it made sense she'd want to cast her ballot in its election. Flower thought a moment and realised the answer was simple. She's the Princess of Friendship. Of course she's going to vote for the one who makes the best friends. It was in that moment, Flower made her final decision. She'd decided she knew who the Princess was voting for, and that was enough to make her own decision.

As soon as the Princess had gone inside, she decided it was okay to move to catch up with the line.

She had finally gotten close enough to talk to the pony running the vendor cart. "Hello! Wow! A visit from Princess Twilight! We must be doing something right if she respects our election enough to vote."

"I mean... you know she used to live here, right?" the pony responded

"I know. But my reason makes Ponyville feel more important." she reasoned

"Haha!" the shoppony laughed "That it does! Care for a free chocolate? In honor of our princess-approved election?" she winked

"Don't mind if i do!" Flower accepted floating a Ponyville crest-shaped chocolate into her mouth "Mmm! That's... fantastic!" she praised raising a business card to look at it "Cocoa, eh? You make these yourself?"

"It's my passion!" Cocoa beamed "You're welcome to come back after you vote for a free cupcake, courtesy of Sugar Cube Corner!"

"Well, I'll tell you one thing. This won't be last you see of me." she winked

Flower headed into the election hall, and did her due diligence, offering peasantries as usual. Merely nodding at the candidates outside before heading back to her Flower Shop to retrieve some bits. She hadn't figured she'd need them.

  7. Cocoa's cart sat in front of the Town Hall, between the two forward doors, laden with sweets. Mostly her own creations, but a few of Mrs Cake's cupcakes on top (to show varieties, she kept most of what she got from her inside the cart).

Of her own, she had chocolate cookies shaped like each of the candidates' heads, some shaped like the Ponyville crest and several assorted other curios to whet the sweet tooth's appetite. From chocolates of various kinds and flavors, to expertly crafted candies and taffies. While her expertise lay in chocolate, she did also make some pretty darn good candy, she thought.

She'd placed cards on the cart's shelves to label the wares as follows:

Cupcakes: 1 bit (courtesy of Sugar Cube Corner)

Candidate and Ponyville Chocolates: One free per pony

Small Candies and Chocolates: 2 for 1 bit

Larger and specialty confections: 1 bit

Also displayed was a box of business cards that said:

    "Cocoa Nut: Chef at

    The Cocoa Hut

Exotic chocolates and candies for the adventurous tongue."

and had a map on the back to direct ponies to her shop.

She stood and awaited her next customer. Eager for positive interactions to bring in future business at her shop.

    ==============

// If you wish to interact with Cocoa's Cart, to reduce the amount of responding i need to do, if you just want her to offer friendly pleasantries and do business, then feel free to try to keep with what little of her character you've seen here. Otherwise, if you want me to respond as Cocoa, please tag me. Thanks. ^v^

PS. Remember that each pony who gets anything from her cart will also be offered the same free cupcake with their 'I Voted' sticker "courtesy of Sugar Cube Corner" //

    ==============

Rose came back around the Hall to meet her new friend again. "Hey, Cocoa!" she called, she pointed at her chest where the voting sticker sat and winked as she came up to her "Don't worry, I don't need any cupcakes. I'm not particularly fond of cake. But I MUST have more of those mango Chocolates!" she said excitedly "I never thought a chocolate could taste so good!" she praised

"I'm so glad you liked it!" Cocoa beamed "They're a bit a piece."

"And so worth it!" she responded, producing three bits "I'll take three."

Bits and waves were exchanged and Cocoa said as she hoofed Rose a business card "Be sure to visit my shop later!"

"I wouldn't miss it!" Rose called back as she left.

  8. Rose.png

Compass Rose was not used to being out in broad daylight. Her sensitive Aerion eyes were not well adjusted to sunlight. However, her friend Stellar Drift had been adamant that she participate in what he described as a "very rare and important opportunity in Equestria" she'd asked if he could just go in her stead, like she'd asked him to do on other occasions for errands, but he said that, technically being a Canterlot resident, he couldn't.

She sighed. "Sometimes, I wonder about that pegasus." she thought to herself. She had conceded that, she supposed, she should at least give the candidates a fair assessment and if one stood out to her to do her due duty as a Ponyville resident. And while at first she was only into it for Stellar's benefit, she had become somewhat invested in the outcomes of this election. She'd learned some pretty revealing things about the candidates and come to her own, very confident decision about who she would support. One who she felt represented her well, as a Canterlot transplant, and as a resident so close to the Everfree Forest. Not to mention, the opposition just felt.... abrasive, to say the least. While she could respect experience and knowhow, it's as she'd always said. "You can't teach character."

All this and more swirled through her mind as she waited in line. Her sun hat blocking her vision of all but the back hooves and tail of the pony in front of her. She was so lost in her thoughts that she almost didn't hear when somepony called to her.

A strange brown earth pony mare pulling a cart waved at her and called her "batpony" which kind of made her eye twitch, but she decided to let it go. She wanted her to watch her cart, which Rose was okay doing, but she wondered why she would trust a random stranger. When she'd offered candy, Rose sighed. She was about to say she didn't much care for chocolate, but before she could get a word out, the mare had gone.

Rose excused herself from the line she was in and stood by the cart. She looked around and a tight came to her.

    ====

After a few moments, the strange mare came back around the Town Hall to retrieve her cart.

"Hello, friend!" she called to her, trying to be more friendly than she'd been the first time around (than she been given chance to be, she reasoned) "I hope you don't mind. I took the liberty to position your cart where I felt it could get the most hoof traffic while also leaving the lines enough room to go unimpeded." she smiled. she may not get around town much, but navigation was her specialty. The other mare just stared at her for a moment, and she feared she might've overstepped. "I mean... if you do-" she was interrupted

"Oh. My. Gosh! That's exactly where I would've put it!" she exclaimed "Are you sure you don't have mind-reading abilities?" Rose blinked for a second "Wait. Quick, what am I thinking?"

Rose stammered "I-I.... don't know what to say, here..."

The brown mare gasped "You are so spot on!" she lied "My name's Cocoa Nut. You can call me Cocoa. I run a confectionery down the street called the Cocoa Hut! Big sign, red letters, can't miss it." she winked

"I'm Compass Rose... or just Rose. and I'm guessing this" she gestured to the still closed up cart "is some of your wares?"

"Well, yes and no!" she answered "I went to Sugar Cube Corner, and i bought some of Mrs. Cake's things to promote as well!" she pulled a lever on the side of the cart that opened it up to display a wide range of sweets from cupcakes to candies to chocolates. On the top shelf sat some of Mrs Cake's creations with a card that labeled them as such. in the bottom, an assortment of Cocoa's confections and a box of business cards. "As a relatively new resident and business owner in Ponyville, I figured this was as good an opportunity as any to show the Ponies of Ponyville what I do! Plus, i thought having some stuff I know my fellow Ponyvillians like would help sell mine."

"Oh! Well, that is a good idea!" Rose responded "I don't normally go for candy, I prefer the fruit kind of sweets, but i goes to support a new local busine-"

"That's the best part!" cocoa beamed "My candies and chocolates aren't all conventional. The free ones are, but since you watched my cart for me, I'll give you my special mango-flavored chocolate!" she winked

Rose hated a stereotype as much as anything, but she had to admit. Mango was, in fact, her favorite. She smiled and accepted the offered candy. "Thank you, Cocoa!" she said

"No problem, Rose." cocoa replied "If you promise to visit often, I'll keep my store open late for you." she gestured to her sun hat, knowingly

Rose smiled "Consider it a deal." she replied

"Oh! Before i forget! Make sure to swing back around with your 'I Voted' sticker for a free cupcake, courtesy of Sugar Cube Corner!"

Rose waved at her new friend going back into the line a little more light-minded than she'd been before.

After her interaction with the nice pony she'd just talked to, she was more sure than ever this kind of friendliness was exactly what Ponyville needed in a mayor. and only one of the candidates had given her the impression they'd provide that.

When her turn arrived, she marched into the hall with confidence in her choice. She accepted the ballot and stamped the appropriate square with her approval before carefully inserting it into the box. Giving the poll worker a friendly smile before exiting the building.

"You ponies both sure made this a difficult decision, but I'm pretty confident in my choice." she offered, in as unbiased a tone as she could, to the candidates waiting outside as she left, trying not to give away her feelings on the matter.

  9. Cocoa-Nut.png

Cocoa Nut pulled a small vendor cart down the Ponyville street, walking just a bit too briskly for the underkempt dirt roads. She was just excited about this election. She heard the cart bump particularly badly on a small pebble in the street, and she slowed down. "Be careful, Cocoa..." she reminded herself "This cart is on loan." she had gone, the day before, to Sugar Cube Corner to ask for the cart. She may be another provider of sweets in Ponyville, but being Cocoa was a confectioner, and Mrs. Cake a baker, she figured there need be no competition. In fact, she figured, this first interaction could open the door to being business partners in the future! .... provided she could bring the cart back in one piece. Having such a well-known and liked pony and businessmare in Ponyville be her business partner could only be good for business in the future.

As she approached the town hall, she sighed to herself. While distracting herself with business thoughts was great, she did have a vote to think about. She thought she'd exhausted the subject pretty well when she'd decided on her candidate, but it never hurt to go through your thoughts one last time before making a decision final.

Most ponies thought of Cocoa as a carefree filly with little regard for things like social norms or looking foolish in front of others. A sort of eccentric chocolate-slinging fairy, if you will. While this was true, in some respects, she was also an avid businessmare and very serious confectioner. She'd made a home for herself in Ponyville and wanted more than anything to make herself a good fit and to do her part to make Ponyville work for her, as well. Hence using this gathered crowd as an opportunity to spread the word of her relatively new shop.

She had heard the candidates' words and thought hard on them. What they would mean for Ponyville, but also what they might mean for her business. While she liked one candidate a lot more than the other as a pony she could relate to and somepony she could totally hang out with, she had to think about her business. It made her frown to think about her candidate in a position of power, but she had to admit. One sure had a head for business over the other.

She stopped before going in through the door. "Oops!" she said aloud "Silly me! Can't go in with a cart!" she looked around for a minute before she settled on somepony.

"Hey! You!" she called "Bat pony!" the poor mare in the sun hat was taken by surprise. "Yeah! Could you watch my cart while I go vote, real quick?"

The mare seemed a bit perturbed by the question so she added in a singsongy voice "There's free chocolate in it for you!"

The Batpony mare sighed, but before she could get a word out,  Cocoa responded to the assumed agreement "Thanks! I'll only be a minute!"

// Don't worry, this other character is mine, and I'll be posting her go soon after. //

She dashed back to her place in line and when it was her turn, true to her word, she sped quickly through the process. Instead of closing herself in the booth, she merely poked her head in, and stamped her ballot, tossing it at the poll worker before heading out, also leaving the worker a small chocolate as a thank you.

Upon exiting, she was met with something she didn't expect, she loved surprises.

"Oh! Hello, there, Mr and Mrs candidates" she greeted then she snorted "Oops, that made it sound like you're a couple. Whoever wins, I know we'll have good hooves in the Town Hall! For different reasons! And that's what's so great about this election! Here! Have a chocolate!" she tossed each of them a piece of her homemade chocolate before adding in her singsong voice "There's more out froooont!"

She skipped away, not waiting for any responses, knowing she's keeping somepony waiting with her cart (which in retrospect probably wasn't the most clever idea she'd come up with).

  10. Interested in having more members of The Steel Wings.

If you want to make a character, or you think you have a character who fits, let's talk (here or in DMs either way). While The Steel Wings don't canonically do recruitment like this, I just wanted to give y'all a chance to see this and possibly add your character(s) to the roster.

If you want, you can give me some info on your character, or link to their application (even if it's a WIP or pending approval, you'll just have to get the approval before rping them is all).

  11. I can't post these in the gallery because I use bases, so I decided to go ahead and just make a thread here, instead. You can follow the thread if you like, and I'll just post any future vectors I do here as replies.

I do vectors using Inkscape. It's honestly something anyone could do, it's just tedious and most people don't like doing it. But I do, and I like to share my results with people. Unfortunately, I don't have many friends who appreciate pony sh!t, which is all I do, so.....

Anywho, without further ado, I'll post pictures in replies.

(Oh, also, most of the pictures in my character apps are my vectors, so there's that, too)

  12. Silver Haze

    image-3.png

    Roleplay Type: WoE
    Name: Silver Haze
    Gender: Mare
    Age: Adult
    Species: Pegasus
    Eye colour: Blue
    Coat: Lavender
    Mane/Tail: White/light blue
    Physique: Athletic
    Residence: Nomadic (Steel Wings)
    Occupation: gang member
Cutie Mark: A silver wing engulfed in a blue flame, which she got from doing some flight stunts. Hart talent is stunt flying.
Unique Traits: A tattoo of her father's Cutie Mark on her neck. Wears a denim jacket with an emblem that signifies her membership in The Steel Wings.

History: Silver Haze grew up with her mom and dad Radiance and Swift Lightning. She loved her dad more than anything. After she got her cutie mark (first in her class. booyeah), she got a little sister Silver Bolt. She was excited to have a sister. They spent a lot of time together, and were pretty close. But never as close as she was with dad.... which made it all that much harder when he got sick. He had a heart attack, and stayed in the hospital, but just didn't seem to be getting better.... he was on his deathbed. He pulled his foals in to tell them each he loved them. Gave them each one final piece of advice.
His advice for Silver Haze was "Haze, I need you to be strong. Your little sister is counting on you. You're the toughest little filly I know. Don't let anypony ever tell you who to be. You be you, and make things happen."
Then he spoke with Bolt. But Haze wasn't hearing, cause she was reflecting on his words.
The machines started beeping and doctors rushed in. She wanted to see what was going on, but-
She walked home that day by herself. She needed time to think. She knew her dad was right. She needed to be herself. Unapologetically and firmly herself. And nopony was going to stand in her way.
She decided there and then that she was going to find her own way.
But she couldn't leave yet... Bolty still needed her.
After a month or so. One day. Bolt came home with a few new scars... but something else, too.
    She had her cutie mark!
"Turns out, I can take care of myself, huh, Haze?" She said.
    "You sure can."
Not long after, she left a note and left the home in the middle of the night (She didn't know, but bolt watched her quietly and said nothing).
After a while on her own, she encountered The Steel Wings. They saw that she was alone and doing quite well for herself. So they asked her if she wanted to join them. Well, she thought being in that gang would be pretty cool, so naturally she said yes. Since then, she's been really bonding well with her new family, and particularly with the leader, Steel Wing, who is like a father to her.
Character Personality: Tough, outgoing but emotionally guarded, adventurous and a little reckless.
Character Summary: Silver Haze is a thrill-seeking, tough-as-nails pegasus who loves living the gang life with her gang family of The Steel Wings. Her best friend and mentor, Steel Wing is like a father to her. She enjoys spending time with her fellow members and the many ponies they interact with.

    Roleplay Type: WoE
    Name: Steel Wing
    Gender: Stallion

One day, he met a younger pegasus named Feather Hazel. She was a fun filly who loved to fly, but she was much less showy than Steel. They became fast friends. One day, when flying together, Steel Thought he'd show Hazel a trick he'd mastered. Flying on his back. She thought that looked like fun and wanted him to show her how to do it. He did, and they worked together until she finally was able to very slowly but steadily fly on her back. They were both so happy! Thes Steel's flank began to glow! He'd gotten his cutie mark! Years passed, and Steel and Hazel were inseparable. They became a flying duo that would turn heads wherever they went. Steel doing death-defying jawdropping stunts, and Hazel doing some graceful flying to accompany. One day, they each got their letters from Wonderbolt academy! They were both accepted! They worked their tails off in the academy, quickly rising to the top. Steel as lead pony, Hazel, his wingpony. They smashed records and they climbed leaderboards. After they finished at the academy, and while they were waiting to hear if they would get to be Wonderbolts Reservists, Steel wing had gotten a crazy plan to help them train and be the best fliers they could be. He was reckless like that. He told Hazel of a place they could go that had such strong winds most pegasi would never be able to make it. but he was confident they'd be fine. She excitedly joined him to go there to train a bit before they got their results tomorrow. They flew through the cavern, the winds stronger than usual, barely keeping steady. Hazel was beginning to have more and more trouble. "Steel? are you sure we can do this?" she screamed through the wind "Don't worry, Hazel. You and I are tough ponies. We'll make it." he screamed back. Just then, a particularly strong cross breeze blew them both out of balance. Steel used his exceptional flying skill to turn his faltering into a showy moebius followed by a barrel roll and he was steady again. "WOOHOO!" he screamed "That was crazy. Did you see that, Hazel?" There was no response. He looked around, his heart racing, and he saw her. She was struggling against the currents, tumbling and hurling at breakneck speed toward a cliff! "HAZEL!" he turned and flew as fast as his wings could carry him.
    He was too late.
later, at the hospital, he paced the hall waiting to hear how she was doing. A doctor came out to say "I'm sorry, sir. We've done everything we can, but... her wounds were too severe. She's gone."
Steel didn't even go back to hear if he'd gotten in the reserves. Even if he got in, there was no way he could do it without Hazel. He cursed himself for his stupid, reckless idea. He wished his friend was still here.
Many years passed, and now Steel lived in Manehattan. He'd grown a lot since that day at the hospital. he learned to stop blaming himself, and move on. He still missed his wingpony, but he was finally able to go on without her. He still didn't know if either of them had gotten into the Wonderbolts Reserves, and honestly, he didn't really mind not knowing. He was happy in his new home. He even had some pretty good friends that he flew with all the time. Nopony as close as he and Hazel had been, but they felt like family. One day, he decided he and his group of friends would make themselves a name for their group. Make it like a club. One of them joked that Steel Wing was kinda thes leader anyway, the way he always played concerned father. Why don't they call their group after him? "Y'know," said another friend "That's actually not a bad idea. I mean, we all follow him, and he's always been the best flier and- hey, don't give me that look, Steel, you know it's true. And i think he'd make a fantastic leader. Even if he doesn't."
"All those in favor of calling ourselves the Steel Wings, and appointing Steel the Leader?"
    All his friends emphatically agreed.
"Well," Steel said, chuckling "It looks like I've been out-voted."
They all laughed and had another round of cider.
Years more went by, and most Steel's co-founder friends moved on from the gang life and settled down. Since it's founding, he'd recruited a pretty decent member count. He was getting up there in years, but it didn't stop him from enjoying every minute with his gang.
One day, he met a little filly who was making it all on her own in the big city. She seemed young to be on her own, but she was tough and there was something about her that he couldn't ignore.
He asked her if she wanted to join the family and live the gang life. She was all too ready.
That's when he knew what drew him to her. She reminded him of Hazel. Her name was Silver Haze.
Yet more years have gone by, and Haze had shown herself a very capable filly... except she was a grown mare, now.
Steel saw all his members like his own children, but Haze was his wingpony, and he hoped, his successor.

  14. The Steel Wings

    An Equestrian Pegasus Gang

    Overview:

So I'm sure you know about earth's motorcycle gangs, mostly prevalent in the United States and an identifying part of American culture? Yeah, just like that, but maybe a bit different. Given the atmosphere of Equestria, it would be unlikely for violent gangs to arise, but the tough exterior and free-spirited nature of these groups is still a likely thing. This group, The Steel Wings, is one such gang.

The pegasi of this gang fly around Equestria in a sort of loose pattern (sounding like a fleet of WWII planes), doing stunts and generally being unsafe and reckless. However, unlike a certain unnamed group that doesn't seem to mind putting other ponies at risk (cough)Washouts(cough), they aren't in it for fame or bits, they're just having fun. Sometimes, the gang will play harmless pranks on friends of theirs, but that's about as far as they go. They mostly just like to fly with like-minded ponies who they see as "tough" and who gel well with the rest of the gang. They conduct themselves more like a family than anything, and they are fiercely loyal to one another.

While, by the nature of it being a gang of pegasi, they only travel with other pegasi, they have been known to dub non-pegasi who they are exceptionally fond of as "honorary" members. Who, when they come around, can join their fun, and at any time can call on them for favors and protection.

    Leadership and Foundung

The founding and current leader of The Steel Wings is the elderly Steel Wing, himself. Though he is in his elderpony years, he hasn't lost one bit of his sprite or toughness.

At any point should the members of his gang feel he is unfit, they are encouraged to challenge him to a wing wrestle. When he wins, they back down. He hasn't lost yet. Steel Wing views his members like his own children.

    Membership:

There are many members of The Steel Wings. Some of them have moved on, retiring from the lifestyle, some come and go from time to time. Only Steel Wing himself knows how many ponies are members.

The named members (that is ponies who have roleplayers) are:

    ("H" denotes an Honorary Member)

  15. Windward jumped at the sudden introduction, nearly falling on his haunches. The pony had come at him, practically tackling him in his enthusiasm. Windward smiled and chuckled a little bit remembering how he'd been as a child with his father. Not a whole lot different than this.

He'd asked him a simple enough question, and offered employment. Windward decided he'd make it interesting for the stallion.

He hoped it wasn't going to turn him off, but judging by the docks he was on and his he'd introduced himself here, Windward figured he wasn't having much luck.

"Well, as it turns out, mister Cain, you're right. I am in luck. I was just thinking I was going to need a deckhoof. Have you been to Neighpon? I was just finishing getting set to go. You can come, free of charge, if you agree to be my right-hoof pony for the trip. Don't worry, I don't bite... often." he smiled at the pony trying to appear friendly. While he was mostly just giving him a way to feel useful on the ship, he really was grateful he might have some help. While it was possible for him to sail this ship by himself, it certainly doesn't hurt to have some help.

"Of course, if you'd rather, you can come as a passenger, but you will need your own papers." that was another thing, he'd just realised. If he came as crew, he would be covered by Windward's merchant papers. Otherwise, he'd need his own.

"If you don't mind my asking, what has you leaving the harbor in such a hurry?" then he added quickly, while still sounding natural "Whatever it is, you'll be safe on my boat." He gestured Candy to his boat so they could finish their conversation on deck while he got the crate in place.

A relatively small sea-green stallion in a wind-swept sandy-blonde mane pushed a cargo crate large enough for him to stand in across the dock. The crate had a red sakura blossom stamped on the side. It was headed for Neighpon. It wasn't one of his more common routes, but certainly one of his favorites. As he pushed, he thought what fun it might be to have somepony to sail with. "I should post a wanted ad in the tavern." he thought, aloud. Referring to the one place most sailors and experienced passengers go to find work, or routes. But then, he realized, he'd have to wait for a response. He kind of wanted to leave now, while the winds were favorable. Just then, he noticed a rather excited-looking pony he didn't recognize sitting, looking about, next to his boat. He smiled "Or," he started "perhaps, I don't need to." he'd been in his line of work long enough, he recognized a pony looking for a "boat to anywhere" like the back of his hoof. It was really a stroke of luck he'd chosen this particular dock. Most of those folks found the docks on the other side of town. Those sailors were always more than happy to take an extra passenger for a price. Here, the sailors were mostly grumpy and anti-social. In fact, Windward was only here cause his client insisted they met here to sign off his cargo, and then left in a hurry.

He decided he'd push the last crate onto the deck first before talking to the pony. He figured he should have his hooves free so he could give this pony his full attention. As he pushed his crate toward the boat, he had no clue the pony was planning to make first contact.
