  1. Along with Pinkie Pie, Applejack has also proven to be problematic. However, her problem was the exact opposite, she was just so level headed and straight foward it proved difficult to come up with a good move set for her out side of one move does 100 damage, the other does 120. All she had going for her was high HP, attack and defense stats, and honestly wasn't that fun to use. Finally, I've found the solution. She is now a momentum character. When she attacks, the number 2 appears on her portrait, and it continues to grow every time she attacks. How it works, is she also has a Combo command, where she deal 65% of the damage she normally does. While this may sound useless, the catch is she attacks the same amount of times she has built up on her portrait, and each hit still has a chance of being a critical hit. While by default, she can only build up 2 hit, an addition 6 can be unlocked. If 8 hits are built up, she will essentially deal 520% damage in a single turn. This of course comes with a setback. Everytime she uses one of her special moves or an item, her hit counter will decrease by 1. This was implemented for balancing issues more than anything. Also obviously, using her Combo attack automatically sets the counter to 0. With this, Applejack is easy the hardest hitting character in the game, at the cost of patience and practicality. Now if only I could perfect Rainbow Dash's Fly ability...
  2. Not really weird, but rather stupid. A friend of mine bet 5 dollars I couldn't eat a piece of wasabi the size of my fist. I left with 5 dollars and a stomach ache.
  3. It's still in the pre-alpha stage. After completing Pinkie, I'm considering going back and re-working some of the characters, so it may take a while. I'm hoping to have a demo out by the end of the summer though.
  4. Thanks, that will really help. I do not have much on the locations themselves as of now, but I will send you some screens as soon as possible. If you want, I can also type up a small summary of the script and a description of certain areas and characters. In fact, I'll get started on that right now for future reference.
  5. Of all the characters, Pinkie Pie has probably been the most problematic of them all. This is due to her random nature, something that just took me a while to figure out how to recreate. I considered giving her a list of moves that would alternate randomly, but then it just made her seem unreliable and useless, since it would be impossible to plan a strategy around her. I also considered giving her a large moveset, but that made her too powerful, good for any occasion, along with eliminating the random factor. Finally, I came up with the solution. In battle, Pinkie Pie has only one move, Pinkie Slots. It works similar to Setzer's abilitiy from FF6, except it can be upgraded. By default, it is very limited, four options, two of theme kind of suck. Edit: Those 4 options sucked in a practical sense, so now she has 8 by default. However by upgrading her ability, she can actually pull off some of the deadliest moves in the game, provided you are lucky enough to use them. Through this and her decent speed, she will not only remain useful, but will also retain her random nature. And I'd be lying if I didn't say she wasn't my favorite design so far. * One of her Pinkie Slot abilities is literally throwing her enemies a party. It does damage... somehow. And confuses them. It's also one of her best attacks. ** The enemies shown are stand ins for the Pre-Alpha testing. *** Try not to get 3 Pinkie Pies in a row, it will crash the game, hee hee.
  6. Hello everyone, over the past few months I've been working on a game, however, I've come across a bit of a problem recently as I am now in need of some music for it, and I suck at composing my own. So as you may have guessed be the title alone, I'm looking for someone who is good with making MIDI music files for it. The games an RPG, so just to give you an idea, I'll need themes for: - Ponyville - Canterlot - The Train - A Frozen Wasteland - A Frozen Castle - Normal Battles - Mini Boss Battles - Boss Battles I should note I'm looking for high quality original tracks, stuff that could be compared to the SNES or Genesis for example. Also they will need this feel of desperation in a bitter winter overtone to them. Oh yeah, I'm also going to need at least 50 different songs, so I may recruit multiple people for this. If you think you can help, please post below or send me a message. Also, if you think you may know where I can find MIDI artists willing to do the job, please let me know. I won't be able to pay anyone for their help, but I will make sure whoever gets involved is credited. All help will be greatly appreciated.
  7. Chad Rocco from that guy with the glasses occasional does a video centered around FiM. He's also part of what got me into the show.
  8. I used to be a considerably more cynical person, often using the phrase, "This series really needs to end." That phrase punched me in the face when MLP FiM, a franchise I felt needed to die years ago, wound up being good. Now, I never say something needs to die, but rather something needs to get better, and this is how it could get better. I'm still cynical and overly critical, but now I've started looking more in depth with my criticisms looking for the positive aspects while also finding ways to mend the bad. If anything I lost a little and gained a lot.
  9. I'd be shocked, if anything. Then, I would take it home (assuming I wasn't already home) and would do some research to see if this had happened to anybody else. I'd probably try to keep it secret, last thing it needs is a horde of scientists and bronies and news reporters constantly badgering the poor thing. With the existance of super natural being now proven, I'd spend whatever time I need to find a way to send the thing back to where it belongs, away from a world not fit for it.
  10. I just typed up a 10 page paper on the brony community and a 25 page outline of research. I could email them to you if you'd like, the outline itself covers almost every aspect of the community itself, good and bad, but mostly good. I would just have to correct the grammar, I was up till 2 o' clock typing it, so it gets pretty bad near the end. EDIT: Oh nevermind, didn't realize it was taken care of before posting, sorry about that.
  11. You know, whenever Celestia looks towards the screen, I just get this bizarre Tezuka feel. Anyone get that?
  12. I know a lot of people find him annoying, but I absolutely love Gilbert Gottfried.
  13. When I first started developement, one of the first things I decided to do is use OC's for most of the supporting cast, allies and enemies. This was because I wanted to tell a story, without rehashing old ideas already done before. To start off the OC entries, I'm going with the Conductor, the first encountered in the game. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*The Conductor's Sprite is outdated and will be replaced later during development Name: Unknown (Many just call him the Conductor) Race: Diamond Dog Description: The Conductor is one of the deadliest thugs in Equestria, often taking jobs targeting ponies in high positions of power. He specializes in marksmanship, however he is not nearly as effective close quarters. It should be noted, he has only failed three hits in his career, one on Celestia, and two on Krastos the Glue Maker. He also always disguises himself for every mission, this time being a train conductor, hence his nickname. Personality/Relationships: He prefers to keep to himself, just to avoid any possible backstabbers, but will also become totally loyal to anyone paying him to do a job. He is more than willing to take hostages and even endanger bystanders in order to complete his mission. His relationship with clients are purely business, and he has no problem going after an old client if the new one is paying him well enough. He also doesn't hold grudges against Celestia or Krastos, both were simply targets, nothing personal. He however, has took it upon himself to hunt down his nemesis, Beanseh. Role in the Game: The Conductor will act as a recurring boss character and the main mook working for the main antagonist. Everytime he is fought however, he will make use of a different weapon, and will get more and more creative as to how to subdue the heroes. His character will be expanded everytime he appears, including his morals and backstory. Who knows, I might even reveal his name. That's not a hint, I currently am still deciding whether or not to even give him one. Please, if you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to leave a comment below. Early Concept Sketches:
  14. Welcome to Canterlot, the people here are real friendly. *Reads title* Just stay away from my pansies. *Cocks shotgun*
  15. The game will feature 21 playable characters, all of which will have unique abilities to help the player succeed. These abilities include: Twilight's wide range of skills Rainbow Dash's flying Pinkie Pie's attack command has random effects Fluttershy's ability to summon beasts and much more... Some characters have proven to be, problematic, due to constraints of the RPG 2003 engine. Because of this, certain abilities might have to be removed, such as: Derpy using 2 items in one turn and the CMC doing team attacks Note: All 21 characters are at least in the pre-alpha stage, I just erased some names to avoid spoilers. Also, the 21st character is an extremely out of place guest character with no role in the story. He/she is only there due to my strange sense of humor.
  16. So I'm currently working on a game, using the RPG Maker 2003 engine. It's coming along nicely but I'm still in the pre-alpha stage. The battle system still has a few bugs in it and the skill shop will take some time to program for every character. So I'd like to share, if anyone's interested the finished design for the world map. Note: the game will primarily take place in the Griffin Kingdom, however Ponyville and Canterlot will appear. While development has been slow (considering I have a one man team) the game should come together very quickly when I start actually programming the story. I hope to be in the alpha stage by July and have the game completed by November. No promises are being made. I'll also release the first trailer once I have footage for a trailer. I'd also like to note that I'll be looking for help into making MIDI music in the future. I'll probably start auditioning halfway through June.
  17. I quite enjoy it when a fantasy story is able to take an interesting approach to the genre. It can play into cliches, as long as it's fun and creative enough to keep me interested. For example, dwarves mining for ore, is a common cliche, but perhaps explaining further that a certain kind of ore can power a machine capable of bringing rain to a desert will help make the world more emersive. Another pet peeve of mine is deconstructing a genre and forgetting the part where it's supposed to be fun. This is most prevalent in comic books, where they just portray the heroes as punching bags, jerks or both, I'm looking at you Kick-Ass. Though on the opposite end, are those stories that play it so safe it feels like everything is covered in bubble wrap and the characters are nothing more than sock puppets played by some overly conservative soccer mom forcing there morals down my throat, I'm looking at you every movie I was forced to watch in Elementary School. What I'm trying to say is, characters and worlds need to be flawed to be interesting, but also have enough redeeming qualities to make me root for them. One of my favorite aspects though, are what is not explained. Star Wars episodes 4-6 established the force as this mysterious power used by the Jedi, Darth Vader was once a good guy but turned towards the dark side because unexplained drama, and the Storm Troopers where just a neat design for a mook that needs some practice at a shooting range. I don't know about you guys, but for me the whole thing with the medichlorites (or whatever they were called/spelled), Vader's boring and annoying back story, and the Storm Troopers all being clones of the same guy just took so much of the wonder and mythos away from it, that I have trouble watching the original when all I notice is the the Storm Troopers are now lower than mooks, they by story telling aspect don't even have faces. After typing this out, I have realized that this is why I love FiM. Cliches are given interesting twists while new concepts are constantly being presented. It deconstructed the girly merchandise driven show genre and then reconstructed it into a fantastic series with a world matching it's fleshed out characters, and most of all, it leaves a LOT to the imagination, hence 99% of the fan-made material.
  18. How about popular ones. I know it's cheating, but the more popular something is, the more people hate it for no reason.
  19. Super Writer was just the result of it being fun to say, like banana and Bill Clinton. Luckily, I thought of Super Writer before those two, ha.
  20. Dude that's awesome, I wish I knew how the use that C++ stuff. By the way, here's an OC you could use. Name: Hakeem the Griffon Sage Picture/Description: Hakeem is an old griffon who has dedicated his life to mentoring future heroes and protecting the land. However, he is extremely lazy and apathetic, and will only really do his job if it is a case of an emergency, or if his lazy habits are at stake. He specializes in magic tablets, that can grant whoever is worthy of them great power (something he hasn't been able to use for many years). Interests: Skipping work, reading magazines while not working, drinking while not working, and not going to work. Cutie Mark: n/a Relations/Friendships: He is a hermit, but does occasionaly go into town for the newest magazines and drinks. He also considers his boss, the Griffon King to be a nag, and prefers to not interact with him. Home/Location: He travels, but prefers the mountains. Ideas for your character's ingame dialouge: Make it quick. You remind me of myself when I was your age, stupid enough to do someone else's dirty work. Have you read the paper recently, this fool keeps talking about the "sun moving on it's own". What a nut, right? Character Events: His tablets have been stolen by some diamond dogs while he was taking a nap. He'd go get them back himself but he found a sap to do it for him (you). After retrieving his tablets, if you have a skill shop system, he could open one up for the player. If not, he could also give advice or teleport the player for a small fee.
  21. I like to look for mistakes. Like in the first episode, the ladder Spike is standing on falls over, but is standing up again in the next shot.
  22. My story is Loooooooooooooooooooooong so I'm going to keep it really short. It began when I noticed Pony related content on various websites. I thought it was just the new exploitable meme, like 60's Spiderman. Later, one of my favorite critics did a retrospective on the entire franchise, ending with a lengthy talk about bronies and FiM. During the arrow to the knee incident, I came across a Derpy comic. Despite not being a fan at the time, I found it quite funny. While checking out Brony humor, someone posted a link to the "Baby Cakes" episode. With nothing better to do, I decided to check it out. I quite liked it, and before I knew it, I had watched half of season 2 in one day. Funny thing is on hindsight, I feel "Baby Cakes" is one of the weaker episodes.
  23. They may have been nothing more than dumb muscle, but I quite enjoyed the Diamond Dogs. Along with being bloody hilarious, I feel they add a lot to the world of Equestria through not being another pony or super powerful being, but rather a different species all together. Their designs are also a plus for me, personally. Beside them, Chrysalis and the Flim Flam Brothers are great.
  24. Ooh, looks neat. Are you using an RPG Maker engine? The sprites look familiar. I look forward to seeing where this goes.
  25. Thanks, Rosewind. I'll just by not to be, overly critical on the forums.
