Hey, everyone! So, I checked around for a Mafia game on the site, and it looks like the last attempt didn't work out. But, that was over a year ago and I figure the time is ripe for another try! If we get enough players who like the game, hopefully we can make this a regular thing. If you are new to the game, please read through this whole post. It is large, but once you get started, the game can be a ton of fun! If you've played before and are interested, you can skip to the bottom and add your name to the sign-up list. This will be a mostly vanilla game, but it will have a pony theme rather than the traditional Mafia theme. Feel free to ask questions or share suggestions!

Mafia is a classic party game. Each player is given a role and a team, and it is their job to ensure that their team wins. The two most common teams are Ponies (Townsfolk) and Changelings (Mafia).

The game has two phases; Day and Night. During the Day phase, the Ponies will try to figure out which players are Changelings, while the Changelings will do their best to mislead the town. By the end of the day, the town will reach a consensus (majority vote) on who to arrest, and the selected player will be placed in jail (removed from the game). During the Night phase, the Changelings will talk amongst themselves via PM and select one person to kidnap (remove from the game). When a player has been removed from the game, they can no longer post in the game thread until the game has ended.

Note: As this is a vanilla game, there will be no other factions or power roles beyond what is listed in this post.

Win conditions:

- The Pony faction wins when all Changelings have been captured.

- The Changeling faction wins when they make up half or more of the remaining players.

Typical Roles:

Sheriff

- Part of the Pony Faction

- At night, you select one player to investigate by sending a PM to the game moderator. If the mod replies “guilty” then that person is a Changeling. If the mod replies “innocent” then that person is a Pony.

Doctor

- Part of the Pony Faction

- At night, you select one player to protect by sending a PM to the game moderator. If that player is targeted by the Changelings at night, they will not be captured. If another player is chosen by the Changelings, the player selected by the Changelings will be captured.

Changeling (Mafia)

- Part of the Changeling Faction

- At night, you may talk with your fellow Changelings and select one player to capture. Choose one player to send the choice to the game moderator.

Other rules:

- Do NOT talk about the game outside of the game thread, unless your role specifies otherwise (ie, Changeling).

- Do NOT post your role PM. You are allowed to roleclaim, but do not copy/paste anything from your role PM.

- Do NOT post in the game thread after the Night phase begins.

- Do NOT post in the game thread after you have been removed from the game.

- Do NOT edit your posts during the game. You may edit by posting again after your first post, but clicking on the edit button and changing things is not allowed.

- Changelings may only talk with the members of their faction outside of the game thread during the Night phase.

- The length of the Day/Night phase is left up to the game moderator's discretion.

If you are interested in signing up, here's what you do!

- Put your name in the list below (If there aren't enough numbers, add one!)

- When the game begins, you will receive a PM with your role, and a link to the game thread.

- After “Day 1 start” is posted, you may begin.

I'm glad people are interested! I'm going to keep the thread open for another day or two to hopefully get more people so we can have a decently sized game.

Also, if anyone is interested but unsure if they want to participate or some other reason, feel free to sign up as a back-up player. I hope we won't need one, but if someone has to drop out of the game for some reason and they have an important role, it's nice to have someone fill in the gap rather than just losing that role for the whole game.

Since we've gotten a good number of people signed up, I'm going to go ahead and move up the deadline so we can get the game started! I'll close sign ups at noon tomorrow, May 19th (11 am PST, 2 pm EST). That leaves a bit over 14 hours left for people to join.
