I work at Giant Food (a grocery store)

I'm usually working up front as a cashier or a bagger, but I also work in the bakery, deli, produce department, pharmacy, and in the back office doing invoices and accounting.

I'm also a freelance artist for commission in my spare time (for fun and on occasion to pull in a little extra cash) I do anthro, anime and pony art :)

I'm a University student. I study Japanese culture etc.

But during summer, I work. I worked in a Zoo. Taking care of animal is quite fun, especially if they are bigger than you... If you are not careful you are in for some trouble.

Also, I worked at a workshop as a welder. Not much fun, but at the same time not much trouble.

Now I'm hoping to get my scholarship for studies in Japan and go there.

I sadly do not currently have a job. Yay for being a college student! Bluh. The job I held from two summers ago to this past summer was at the, like, number 3 or 4 luxury theater in the nation. It's in Kansas. Imagine that. Actually kinda crazy sounding. It was a fantastic job for the most part. I kept busy and enjoyed it and I was a great team leader towards the end of my time there when I got to run teams. And it wasn't like the jobs where you SPECIFICALLY do one thing. I did everything. I sold tickets, I tore tickets, I prepared/sold concessions, I cleaned and handed out and collected 3D glasses (customers don't get to keep ours; we rent them and keep them all fancy. Top notch stuff goin' on at my theater), I cleaned the whole building from top to bottom (except the balcony and projection; those were different businesses in themselves, practically). It was fun. I miss those peoples. I don't, however, miss working during Jackass 3D and having guys, who'd BROUGHT THEIR GIRLFRIENDS WITH THEM, come out and flirt with me while I'm trying to make sure nobody runs off with our 3D glasses. Yeah...

What I'm hoping to do next semester when I don't have an 8 o'clock class to worry about is work at the school library, a public library, or one of the gaming shops (not Gamestop, but, like... TCG and Tabletop RPG shops) around town. I'd be the only girl there. They'd get so much more business. They need to hire me. XD

We all want to work at Gamestop or something, in reality....I mean hello, paid to play games? Too bad they want gaming experience for FPS which I don't play at all.

Nope, we don't play games while at work. Heck, if I did that I'd be fired

Nonono, we get paid to talk to customers about games and give them suggestions on what games would be right for them and such depending on what they want out of a game. For example, a customer comes in and says, "Hi, I'm looking for a FPS game..." okay, that's pretty broad. You would try to find out more info about his preferences in FPS such as team based, ultra realistic, what I personally call "rambo" style, or maybe he wants something with a bit of an RPG element like Fallout and Deus Ex. If he asks about my personal experience with any of the games I suggest, if I have it, I give it. If not, there's always your co-workers who may or may not have played it. If that isn't available either, you fallback on reviews you've read or such.

Point is, as long as you have some fundamental knowledge about gaming, the rest you learn through practice. I mean, sure, you do get paid to play games, but you play games while you're at home or such. You are technically getting paid to share the knowledge and experiences you gather from playing the games with your customers.

Heck, before I started working there, I only knew about Mario games, Legend of Zelda games, a few PS2 games like Xenosaga and Final Fantasy (which I really don't like), and what little knowledge I had about PC games like Portal, TF2, and WoW.

If you are interested in working at a Gamestop, I'd highly suggest you put in an application ASAP because most stores, especially mall stores like the one I work at, will be hiring for seasonal help. Go in "professionally" dressed with your resume and ask to talk to a manager. Introduce yourself, get some face time. Hopefully they'll hire you and if they decided you're an asset to the team, maybe they'll keep you on board after the season. That's pretty much how it went for me.

So, basically what I'm getting at is that working at a Gamestop is pretty much this...

Well, no, its not about playing games on the job... in fact i doubt they EVER get to actually PLAY games on the clock... but its more about it being something i'm knowledgeable about, and something i'm interested in talking about... Chicken is delicious, but you can't make a conversation piece out of it, and theres not really much discussion about which chicken would be best to get...

but at Gamestop or something, i know about games, i can talk about games, i can help people find games, etc... it's something i know and enjoy, and just talking about and being able to be around what i enjoy that would be fun... playing games all day would be fun for a while, but thats not really what i want.

Now, be warned though. You will have access to a lot of tools to help you learn about games. Mainly your paycheck. If you work at a Gamestop, and you enjoy video games. Your paycheck will return to the store one way or another. As an example, Batman Arkham City(which I bought and I'm loving it) just came out and in November you Halo Combat Evolved, MW3, Skyrim ( :kissy: ), Lego Harry Potter, Assassin's Creed Revelations ( :kissy: ), and a bunch of other titles.

I will be broke by the end of the month

Still, good luck if you decide to try it.

I Currently Work For My School. (I'm not in trouble or anything, It's an actual Job.)

Basically I do most of the Physical Work no one wants too. During the Summer, we do Everything. Mow every yard in town (school owned houses.) and any other manual labor you can think of. XD

But during the School years, i pretty much take out Trash, Change Lights, Etc.

Exactly, Tales, except they'd be singing about my amazing ability to roll Natural 20's, and the fact that I play a BA Demon/Tiefling Hexblade with an epic Intimidate skill! No spellcaster stands a chance against me.

Also, there will be no hand-holding and running through the store at the end of the song. XD

I work two part time jobs and go to school part time. I work for the university I go to, doing boring security work. I make sure no one causes a ruckus (rarely), steals anything (surprisingly rarely, though someone did try to steal a spinning wheel out of the ceramics lab once), and lock up at closing. Mostly it translates to me getting paid to watch Netflix, or ponies. Cushy student job, really.

I also work for a small dental marketing firm as "web support", which means I update dentists' websites, transfer domains and emails, figure out why things are broken and fix them, aaand for some reason design print ads. It's pretty nice, and I'm glad I'll have something on my resume other than "I sat in a building all night for minimum wage, and before that I bathed uncooperative, bitey dogs, also for minimum wage. HIRE ME."

I'm seriously considering going to Guildhall for grad school. There are so few jobs in art education now, unless I want to move to Houston or look for a teaching job out of state (I don't). :/

Oooh, fun. I work in Games Development in Concept Artist and Quality Assurance. My usual art is much better than the rubbish I post here, but I'm just starting out drawing in the FIM style.

When I'm not doing that, I'm a published novelist, and I write from my house in Manly. It's quite beautiful, and I enjoy both of my jobs to the fullest. I'm actually writing something now, you're going to love it.

I'm weaning myself out of my 3-year fast food job and into a new career at a local company specialising in mail-order game rentals/sales, corporate/party event management and shipping for rewards programs. At the moment, I'm doing part time at both, as I promised the bosses at my old job I'd at least give them til the end of November, and as much as I just want to up and leave them, if I don't have my word, I don't have anything.

The new job is quite a ton of fun though, the people are awesome, the work slightly mundane at the moment, but tolerable. I get to listen to my Ipod at work, and we get early copies of games like any other game retailer. November is gonna be a crazy busy month though, what with all the new releases. Might need an unemployment topic when Skyrim comes out too XP

I'm a PASTRY CHEF

Yes, all Mrs. Cake in the house here.

Long and storied career

Went to art school, then went to a tech college to learn web design, then the dot-com crash, then unemployed doing freelance illustration and art, then went to culinary school, then cooked in different jobs. Oh, even as a pastry specialist, I make pretty lousy money right now. Screw you, economy!
