[Sweet Apple Acres] 100 Country Kisses (Closed. NO Kisses Left)

Tonight!? Willikers. She wasn't expecting her to suggest a date so recent. But she did say that any day was fine. Rara's complexion was bright and her posture was positive. Either she was really looking forward to some Apple family cooking, or she was excited to share a kiss with her friend. Probably both. "Heh heh, yep." Applejack came out from behind the counter once again and approached Coloratura. "I have kissed so many ponies today, including princesses. I can't believe even the pony of pop is here to make me feel like ah'm some kind of world-class kisser." Applejack chuckled. In her mind, the privilege was always hers, and she never considered how important her own glory of heroism or agent of harmony she was known for was to ponies of all types, include those who gained fame through their special talents.

 

Applejack puckered her lips, closed her eyes, and leaned in for Rara's muzzle. She planned on letting the kiss last longer than a normal one. Wouldn't want to shortchange the kissing agreement for three times the minimum order of apples.

 

 

 

Silverstream upon getting support from her dragon friend dropped her fear, but her ears were still lowered for sake of disappointment. As soon as it was obvious to Silverstream who Tempest was, but then also who she is now, she felt she had to clarify. "I'm not scared anymore. But there's no reason to be rude about it." She scoffed. A few seconds of silence from the hippogriff, and she decided to let out her own thoughts on the matter. She did so by increasing her voice to make sure the purple unicorn could hear her. "You know, it's one thing to have some sort of evil past you regret. But it doesn't mean you have to be a bully!" Silverstream went over to Grubber and rested a claw on his back. "I don't know this little guy very well, but I know he's a student of friendship just like me. So if you got something mean to say this poor little spiky hamster, then you'll have to deal with all of his classmates, his friends, too." Even though Tempest's temper was subsiding, Silverstream did not let her resistance fade. She did not want to take a chance on letting someone rule her emotions. Perhaps she countered Tempest's anger too much, but it would only be because she was not convinced of the unicorns more relaxed state as she was her outburst.

Rara didn't sit there passively when Applejack came in for a kiss. She leaned into it and allowed the passion of the moment to take her. She was a good kisser, she knew that. And she soon discovered to no shock of her own that Applejack was a good kisser as well. Wet on wet, warm on warm, it felt good. She'd have to give Applejack a gold star on her report card for her efforts. She leaned into it until Applejack called it off- it had been a good one. Rara smiled. "That was better than I had hoped for, even. Ha! I'll see you tonight. Have a wonderful rest of the event, Applejack," Rara ended with a wave. She put one barrel on her back, put another in her mouth, and carried one with her hoof. Walking with nothing approaching good speed she worked way out of sight inelegantly. She would free herself of this particular burden soon enough- the room she had rented in a local inn under an assumed name wasn't far off. If only the physical labor was the hardest part of her work that night- she still had to make what could be assumed to be a very difficult sales pitch!

 

Luckily for Rara, she was an excellent pitchmare when it came to the goods she was peddling.

Applejack motioned herself back behind the counter, reaching and having a tall glass of water in order to refresh herself. That had been a doozy of a kiss! She then did a quick roster of apples. What did she have...? Mostly everything left. Not much of anything but she reckoned she had enough apples to make it through the event. She poured the rest of the water on herself- her pelt felt a little warm and hot after all this time out in the sun and little sweat to cover it up- and cracked her back. Time to get on with the getting on.

Naj took a few moments to realize that she was next in line.  She stumbled upright, although once in motion it was easy enough to continue on until she arrived at the stall.

 

Naj was silent in front of the stall, and the orange mare operating it.  In retrospect it was obvious, and she'd be embarrassed embarrassed to have struggled with it for as long as she did.  But at the time, she was still getting used to normal things.  Of course it was apples, that would only make sense when everything was considered.

 

"I'll take...one bushel?" she ventured after a moment.  That seemed right.  She hoped it was right.  Apples were good, they had a nice flavor even if they wouldn't be fully nourishing for her.

By her lucky stars, the next customer who sauntered up to her apple stand was none other than Naj. Talk about somecreature that she had to have herself come around on. Naj had lived as a pony in Ponyville for some time but was secretly a Changeling, a fact that was only revealed much later. Applejack had her own, private, and absolutely awful dealings with Queesn Chrysalis. She wasn't afraid to admit that, back then, she out and out hated Changelings. It was hard to sleep, hard to be herself, after what had happened. Time doesn't heal all wounds but it certainly patches up the errors in a mare's mind, and thankfully she no longer held such views. 

 

It was partly because of Naj, no doubt. A darn good citizen and an excellent example of what anycreature was capable of, Applejack wished she had more time to spend with the changeling. Alas, everycreature had their duties ti attend to. Today, this would be her job to get Naj her bushels of apples. Talk about a fruit that could bring the world together. What couldn't the humble apple do? Naj stepped up and after a moment's hesitation asked for a bushel. Applejack nodded emphatically. "Well, sounds like you've come to tha right place! runnin' a heck of a sale today. One bushel, five bits, a kiss. Swear Ah've been kissin' so many customers today Ah've started ta get a sneaky suspicion that half of 'em aren't even here for man Apples! Imagine that, right? Hehe. One bushel, comin' right up!" She said as she hunted down below, piling up a healthy bushel for Naj. Mostly some Granny Smith's nice and sweet, a good sting and a reminder of what apples so tasty. 

"So, how've you been Naj? Ain't seen you for a spell. Everything going all right?" She asked as she was still below the counter, putting the finishing touches on it. Had to ensure a good, healthy bushel for a good friend, after all.

Ah, Fall. The season was one of Candy Cain's favorites out of all of them. For starters, the season included one of Cain's busiest and most enjoyable days, Nightmare Night. Alongside that, his own birthday was only about a week after that. That wasn't his favorite thing about Fall, though. The reason was clear to anyone who followed Cain's profession, or hung around Ponyville long enough. The pink-maned stallion was currently trudging along the beaten path, a couple minutes away from one of his favorite places: Sweet Apple Acres. It was an apple farm. Who didn't like apple farms? They grew and sold apples for all kinds of uses. Cain was eager to try them all out.

The stallion trotted along with a little hop in his step, a large, scarlet barn with a purple rooftop making an appearance behind the last of the trees in Cain's way. (at least, he thought it was purple. It could have been pink: He had slight issues with colors.) Two things were immediately noticeable to him. One was the unique scent of fresh apples. Cain grinned. He lived for that smell - whenever he caught a whiff of apple, he saw swirling shades of orange. On the contrary, when he saw the barn, he tasted tart raspberry. . . An odd mixture, but it was okay. Synesthesia was weird sometimes. The other immediate factor was the sheer amount of ponies and other folk at the barn today.  "What the devil. . ." Cain picked up the pace now. Was there some sort of event going on that he hadn't heard about? That was odd; He usually picked up info on those before they happened. Then again, he could have missed the heads-up during his candy-making. . . That wasn't all that uncommon. Besides that, well. . . Cain had never actually stuck around Sweet Apple Acres for too long. He was usually rushing around, since he tended to make metric tons of apple-related candies during the Fall. A few bushels, maybe more. Probably not this time, though. The stallion snorted. He wasn't about to buy fruit that he'd never get around to using. So maybe just two or three bushels of apples for the day. 

When he finally got close enough to pick out some specific faces, he let his candy cart drop, sighing with relief. Now, what was all the fuss about? Was there a sale going on? Cain could get behind sales. He lived for discounted merchandise. He spent too much already doing his job. . . Maybe that was why he lived in a cart like a hobo. Cain snorted. No, no, not a hobo. . . Just a frequent traveler. Call it a mobile home, Cain. A mobile home! There was a line leading to some sort of booth up ahead. . . Cain cocked his head to one side, confused by the banner. "'Sweet Apple Acres First Annual Apple Kiss'? My word, that's a mouthful. . ." Cain shrugged to himself. It was no different from his own banner, draped along the side of his cart; 'Candy Cain's Captivating Confections'. He really needed to change the name. . . it was embarrassing.

The stallion turned his attention back to the booth, leaning from the back of the line to try and catch a glimpse of what was going on (because he wasn't about to stand off to the side and watch like a creep). Apple Kiss? That sounded like some sort of sweet to him. . . If that was the case, then he'd go on and give it a try. Afterwards, he'd see what he could do about getting those bushels. He groaned. This was going to gut him, wasn't it. . . Perhaps he could try and catch the eye of one of the folks standing around that obviously ran the place? The only issue with that was that Cain had no idea who worked there. . . Once again, he'd never payed too much attention. The stallion whipped out a gum-flavored candy cane and nibbled on the end, looking a tad bit stressed out.

The young dragon found a seat on the floor and waited for her turn. This probably was not a good idea as she now would have pebble imprints on her backside. Silverstream was a rather passionate Hippogriff. Once she found a cause to root for, she was there for life. And her current cause was the fight to be nice to the giant space hamster. Still, after getting a good look at the mare, Smolder realized getting into a fight with her would not go well for anyone.  Something about the mare..The way she stood...The way she glanced about..And of course her armor...This was a solider and she would kick the snot just about anyone here. And there had to be a story behind that broken horn.

 

What was all that noise? Curious, she turned to see a pony doing a bit of stress eating. Which was never a good sign. She should be friendly. "Heya.", she could be sweet. Dumb ol' Gallus! She could do it. It's hard not to gain such skills when she spent time with Ocellus.  "Feeling a little upset? Wanna talk about it?", she fluttered her eyes-lashes as she spoke. Wait a second, she had eye-lashes?

Honestly, it didn't really surprise Naj that lots of ponies would want to kiss Applejack.  She was athletic, respected, successful, confident, honest...her positive qualities, particularly those relative to a prospective partner, made up a long list.  Though, she wasn't sure if she should bring that up.  Ponies often found that an awkward topic at the best of times, and while Naj was perhaps more comfortable around the farmpony than she used to be that still didn't seem wise.

 

“Uhh, busy.  I'm...I'm surviving,” the changeling replied, on the question of how she'd been, as she started to get out the bits.  “A mission went long, and also went sideways.”  A part of her wondered how much of this she should be talking about openly, but if nothing else she knew she could trust AJ, and then her at least working with the REA was probably common knowledge.  “It was...it was...months?...before we were able to make it back.  Got put on forced leave, came back here.”

 

As she set the bits down, she blinked and her motions slowed as realization finally hit.  “Uhh, a kiss?”  Unsure what else to do, she waited to see what AJ would do next.

[Bellosh]

 

Grubber appeared dumbfounded as the hippogriff came up and gave Tempest Shadow a mouthful. Although a subconscious part of the hedgehog was indeed grateful for the show of solidarity, years of service in the Storm Armada had conditioned Grubber into believing that he ex-commander’s behavior was entirely normal, and was not in fact bullying. On the whole, Grubber felt immense loyalty to Commander Tempest, even if both of them were these days officially connected only by the legal paperwork enabling a minor like the hedgehog to pursue friendship studies.

Hence was Grubber compelled to interject on the behalf of somepony with whom he was only dimly aware of a lack of a healthy relationship between them. “Ah, cut Tempetht thome thlack,” the runt appealed, spinning around in the hippogriff's connection; “Back when thhe wath the commander, thhe had to be the biggetht, BADDETHT grump in the fleet to keep all the troopth in line. Tempetht couldn’t make friendth either, or elthe the Thtorm King would be all like ‘Oh... No waaaaaaaay, thhe’th finding allieth to betray me; NOT cooool, dude!’ Tho then Tempetht wath able to therve the Thtorm King for tho long becauthe thhe never liked making friendth!”

Grubber yabbered on animatedly, heedless of the fact that Tempest could probably overhear him. “But if there’th one thing I know about Commander Tempetht, thhe NEVER failth a mithsion. I betcha if thhe put her mind to it, thhe could abtholutely be the betht friend anybody can ask for!”

Applejack was well aware of the danger inherent in the jobs of many who served Equestria in any number of ways. She didn't know everything Naj was doing or the exact nature of her work but it didn't take a genius to understand that any job that had that sort of secrecy and took that long was something she was best left not inquiring too much about. "Sounds dangerous. Glad ta have ya back in Ponyville safe 'n sound," Applejack asked as she finished getting the bushel set up. It was full of all the good stuff and she was sure as shine that Naj would have all the apples she'd need for pies, shakes, plain eating, juice, jams- the whole shebang!

 

She hauled the bushel on top of the counter, suddenly inquisitive. A thought had popped into her head but for all of the time that had passed she had never really learned the answer. She had Naj here, why not shut this open door in her mind? "By tha way, Ah heard from tha mayor you were still lookin' for a place ta stay. Still true?" Applejack asked, her voice heavy with expectation. If Naj could get herself situated all proper like in Ponyville than that'd be just grand. And Applejack'd be here to help! She pushed the bushel towards Naj, leaning in on the counter to relieve her hooves for fraction of a moment. "Here's tha bushel. Five bits an' a kiss, sound fun?"

Tempest flicked an ear as the pink bird pony felt the need to speak up. She groaned and looked over her back at the filly with a cold, uncaring look she was so well known for.  “I’m not gonna be baited in to that. Last thing I need is twilight sitting me down for some long friendship talk on why my discipline is not ok to use on colts and fillies.” She remarked looking away from them. 

 

But it seems Grubber had to open his trap again. At least he was not talking at her so she can’t really get angry at him for talking at another around her. Fleet days were long gone. Even if his lisp made her skin crawl. But hearing him stand up for her was… funny. He was ever faithful in his own way. For how much she hated how useless he was, he was not a total failure. His trust and willingness to follow her orders was good. Now if only he was not so lacking in all other things! 

 

Maybe when he’s older she can try her hoof at training him better? Was it even worth it? Probably not. But few were willing to go on rants about how good sh- hold up. Her ears flicked as she turned her head to look at him. ‘Best friend anybody can ask for’? It made a soft snort leave her muzzle. That was a lie. It's been almost two years and she’s not made one… Not for a lack of trying. It's not her fault. Was it? Whatever. It was almost her turn and she was getting hungry.

The commotion towards the front of the line was picking up some. Cain couldn't exactly identify the ponies and other creatures in question, as he'd likely never seen them before, but at least a couple looked somewhat familiar. Not his problem to be sticking his snout into things he didn't understand, of course. Instead of listening in on the chatting, he simply sat back, leaning against his cart slightly and breaking off the bottom piece of his candy. This was technically considered eating his own merchandise, but. . . Who was going to tattle on him about it?

The stallion was startled out of his thoughts by a young voice. He whipped his head around, eventually identifying the source as a young orange dragon. . . Who Cain also couldn't place. Welp. This was what came with ignoring your surroundings and becoming lost in your own little world for your entire life. Oh well. It was always nice to meet new folk anyway. Cain hastily put the candy away, realizing how nervous nibbling on it made him look. He made sure that he was the one the dragon was talking to before replying, glancing about. "Oh, no, Miss. It's just a habit of mine when I'm thinking." The stallion paused. Maybe now was a good time to ask. "Say, I don't think I've seen you around before. Then again, I don't see many people around. This little hobby of mine tend to be very time-consuming, you see. A pleasure to meet you. The name's Candy Cain. Who might you be?"

Another thought occurred to him as he spoke, and he nearly cut himself off before the question faded from his mind.  "Also - I was curious. I've only just arrived in Ponyville this morning, you see. I was on my way here anyway, and well. . . The long line caught my attention. Is that out of the ordinary at all?" Cain wouldn't have been surprised if it wasn't. The apples here were the greatest, after all. "And, what sort of delicacy is an. . ." he added after a pause. he'd originally considered asking what the Apple Kisses were, but it seemed better to be surprised than to just ask. Cain had no allergies, so he wasn't exactly at risk there. ". . . Never mind. I think I'll see for myself. I needed to get some bushels anyway. I'll try one once I complete that task."

"Uhhhh," Spike nerved himself as he got into the line. "Come on Spike! Twilight sent you for more apples so you gotta get them for her!" She puffed up his chest. "I wouldn't be the Princess' number one assistant if I couldn't bring her something simple like a couple bushels of Sweet Apple Acres finest!"

 

There, now he felt better. Though maaaaybe he should have talked to himself more quietly. A few ponies turned and stared at him which made him blush again. "Uhhhh yep! Nice day for ummm apple huh?"

 

Oh this was going reeeeeally well! The dragon was beginning to think Twi had sent him out here just to set him up for a nice smooch with a pretty farm mare. 'I mean she's no Rarity but still' he thought to himself as the line got shorter a little at a time. He knew Twilight had set him up for this because she'd been here earlier in the day. She knew he'd be getting a country kiss! And, everypony would see it happen! 

 

Was it too late to maybe get the apples somewhere else? Just as he was pondering the idea he accidentally made eye contact with Applejack! Well, that was that! This was happening!

 

"Oh uhhh, hi there AJ! Long time no see huh?"

Naj stares at the bushel for a time, until Applejack's question snaps her attention back to the farmpony.

The changeling blinks at the question, needing a moment to remember.  When she finally does, she replies, “...Oh, yeah.  Yeah I was looking for a place to stay.  I, um, I guess that was interrupted.  I couldn't exactly have worked on it while...while out in the field.”

 

Her bits she was able to keep track of easily enough, and so five were deposited on the counter in short order.  She also pulled the bushel a little closer, though that was more symbolic than anything, she wouldn't really be carrying them until she was ready to walk away.

 

The kiss...that still made her hesitate.  Applejack is, or at least used to be, one of the creatures she feared most.  There might have been meaner creatures, or more imposing creatures, but none of them were so close, or so opposed to what she'd thought a changeling was or would need to survive.  Eventually they grew a little more comfortable with each other, but Naj still had a lot of respect for the mare, and tended to keep a healthy distance.

 

On the other hoof, by the same token she'd probably never get another chance like this.  Even if it wasn't something Naj might have ever sought before, she would be loath to pass it up as an experience.  She nods in reply.  “Y-yes, let's do it.”

Applejack thought it time for the kiss, and so she leaned in- and then briefly, imperceptibly, stopped.

 

She gulped, though it was hidden behind a smile. Naj was not Ocellus or some new Changeling that could only be imagined as the new, friendlier, kinda doofy breed that embraced Harmony. Applejack remembered how Naj looked. She remembered what she had heard about her upbringing, what she had done. Applejack knew Naj was great and had a great heart. But Applejack had memories. Queen Chrysalis, fooling Applejack. In Roam, on a date for charity. Alone all night. Sucked dry of her love for everything, taken advantage of in the worst way possible.It had taken her weeks to recover physically and emotionally just from the attack itself, to feel something again. If sh was honest with herself it had never fully gone away, the pain of what happened, and never would. It would be a cold day in Tartarus before Applejack could forgive Chrysalis. But she'd be damned if she allowed that color her perception of anyling else, even if the last time she kissed one...

 

Applejack disallowed the cycle from starting over again, taking Naj by her cheeks and pulling her fiercely towards Applejack. The mare then planted a deep, wet kiss on Naj and allowed it to linger. When she was done she let Naj go. "Well, Ah hope you still look for a place 'round these parts. Yer a damn fine citizen of Ponyville and we're lesser without ya," she said, ending with a deep-throated laugh. She swept the bits up with her hoof. HEr heart stopped beating a mile a minute and the anxiety that had threatened to take root, the thumping of blood in her ears, banished with the dark memories. It was a good time to be Applejack and an even better time to be Naj.

 

After all, she had a heck of a bushel.
"Enjoy yer bushel. Should keep for a while. They also make good food when yer...away from town for a while. 'Course Ah'm biased, but that don't make it any less tha truth Naj. Don't be a stranger now, ya hear?"

Naj's emotional reading was never one of her well developed skills.  Her focus had been on other areas, and in her various roles focusing on her opponent's emotions would be as much a distraction as an asset.  Despite that, even she could tell that AJ was uncomfortable being this close to a changeling, or at least a traditional one.

 

Which is why, a moment after the kiss, Naj slowly broke out into a smile.  Either the farmpony had become so comfortable with her that she could do this anyways, or AJ thought highly enough of her to be willing to push through that.

 

It still took her a while to reply though.  She nodded after a moment.  “W-well, I was planning to be in town for a few days at least.  My time off is, um, non-negotiable they told me.  So you'll be seeing me around for at least a few days.  Probably.  So, er, yes.  I'll see you around.  Though I'm not sure when I'll get back to looking for a place.  Thanks for the apples!”  With a bit of effort Naj hefted the bushel, and started to walk away.

Applejack waved Naj off, happy to hear that she as going to be in town a bit longer this time. That was good, she needed to get settled. "Well, next time y'all are talkin' ta tha Mayor about getting a place, make sure ta get me. Ah might have some ideas," she said sweetly before Naj vanished from view entirely. Whether Naj would like those ideas or not, Applejack didn't know. Whether the Mayor would like those ideas, Applejack didn't know. All Applejack knew was that she had ideas and Naj at least deserved to know her options, regardless of whether she found them acceptable or not. With that Naj was off and Applejack was preparing to move on to the next customer when she noticed she had been called out by a small friend in the back of the line, somedragon who seemed a bit pensive about the whole equation

 

"Howdy Spike! Nice ta see ya make it out!" She bellowed to the end of the line, giving him a good wave. He did seem a little nervous about this. Was it because he was gonna be kissing a mare? Or to be more precise, kissing a non-Fashionista or talkative birdbrain? She had to hold in a giggle. She remembered what it was like to be that age and the poor guy had been stuck there since forever. Oh well. It was nice to see him. She also knew what type of apples he iked and knew for certain that she had a nice little collection of Honeycrisps left for him. One of the many advantages of friendship was knowing just exactly what you could do with a friend to make them the happiest in any given circumstance, and she knew that Spike would walk away from this with a big, goofy grin on his face.

 

But to do that, they needed to get to him.

“Finly.” Tempest says marching, rather literally, up to the stand where she stands tall. At first with that same dead, uncaring blank face that seems stuck on her. At least until it broke down into a smile as she holds a hoof out to greet AJ. “Hello, been a few has it? Sorry. Life has been… Busy but maybe for the better. How have you and the young one been?” She asked sounding very genuine in her words and smile. 

 

But aside from that smile and a more cheerful tone she looked much the same. Still wearing that body covering jumpsuit and black-platemail. Her face had a few more new markings as well. Scarring from cuts gained somehow from the last time AJ laid eyes on the mare betraying that she has yet to get away from finding ways to get in to scraps. But she was still tall, lean and powerful as the jumpsuit did nothing to hide the raw strength underneath it. In all, not a lot seems too have changed with her but if one knew her they can see so much has in the small act of her smiling and caring about another. Small things but so very big for her.

Applejack was pleasantly surprised to see the mare who came to her stand next was none other than Tempest Shadow herself! She was a strong mare. Combative and blunt, having led a rough life that didn't seem to play easy with her so she didn't play easy with it. New scars told Applejack that she wasn't keeping her nose entirely out of trouble but she had been keeping her name out of the papers. Small steps for big mares may not seem all that special but Applejack knew you had to take what you could get with some of the more fighty ones. And Tempest sure did qualify under that bracket.

Luckily she did eventually crack her cold demeanor with a warmer smile and a question that tugged at Applejack's overplucked heartstrings. “It's been real good down here. Same stuff day in, day out! Zap Apple's been good. Why, he has started countin' his numbers real good-like. He's gonna be tha smartest stallion in tha whole wide world Ah reckon,” she said with a mighty chuckle, though her look of pride needed no augmentation. She really did think the world of her little stallion and knew that this opinion would be shared by literally every last pony who ever met them, Celestia help those that thought otherwise if she knew about them.

“Ah hope you've been doin' well, Tempest,” Applejack said as she washed her stand top once again, partially out of nervousness. “Got worried 'bout ya. Happy ta see ya here again!” She said with a mighty big smile as a capper. She then spread her forelegs out over the stand. “So, what we got here is a nice deal. Five bits an you get yerself a bushel of fine Sweet Apple Acres apples. Not only that, but you get a big kiss from lil' ol' me,” she said with a wink. “So, what'll it be? What sorta apple's got yer name on it today?”

Tempest chuckled softly at how much AJ loved talking about her colt, it was adorable. Even if the fact that it was… stuck her as odd. Something about it just warmed her heart and she just can’t explain why. “That is good to hear and glad he’s learning well! Math gave me one heck of a time. Never was one for it or much learning when I was young. Just wanting to run about outside.” She remarked shaking her head. 

 

“And things have been… Stressing. Been trying to change my life around some. Call my crazy but I have really been thinking about just packing it all up and heading deep out in to the wilderness for a time. Maybe try my hoof at map making remote places? Don’t know. I just know city and town life has been nothing short of a fuss for me. But keeping my nose out of things to bad for now… just some scraps here or there for fun.” She says with a wave of her hoof sinker. “Now… I am willing to buy some apples. But a kiss?” She arched an eyebrow. “Well tell you what, let me crash my flank in the barn again tonight for free and maybe I will let you.” She says leaning her head back just to be on the safe side.

Applejack had to stop herself from giving into a despairing sigh. This mare- she didn't want to relax or forgive herself. Her life had done a number on her personality. She was always looking at ways to ensure that her penance, the one only she felt she needed to make, was as needlessly complicated and harsh as possible. She could just as easily hang around Twi and the others and learn how she fit into modern Equestria, but all she wanted to do was make it hard. Oh well. No big deal. Sometimes when Applejack found a wild calf and had to bring it into her dairy herd, she had to break it in. So it would be for Tempest, in a different manner.
"Tempest, y'all have a lot ta offer. If you want to be some sort of wilderness tracker, some manner of explorer, you can do it. But don't be a stranger ta us normal ponyfolk. You always have a place here in Ponyville," Applejack said with a smile, though it turned into a frown as she pointed a hoof at her erstwhile possible friend, "but don't go an' isolate yerself or get into a bad situation without a friend ta help ya. You'd be stealin' yer potential from not only you, but from us, an' Ah don't quite much like that concept not one bit," Applejack said with a shake of her head.

 

As she finished that, she looked down and started going through her apples. She was going to give Tempest something a bit tarter than normal, seemed up her alley. She piled up a nice bushel of Empire Apples. As she did that, she ruminated on what Tempest had said and laughed, though her voice carried a mixture of both jovial good-natured authority and the finality that said the words were true, even if delivered sweetly. "Ya know Ah'm not some sort of strict headmare or nothin', but you bet your booties Ah'm followin' tha rules when it comes ta mah own sales. You pay five bits an' as part of that transaction yer gettin' a bushel of apples and a kiss, not just one or tha other. What sorta businessmare would Ah be if Ah allowed y'all to change the details of tha deal on me right before we closed a sale?"

 

She shot up with the bushel down, pushing it towards Tempest and leaning on the stand. 
"Besides, y'all know you have a place ta stay here, Tempest. No need ta go guessin' as to yer welcome on this here farm! That'll be five bits, Temmy."

Tempest felt taken aback at how AJ reacted to her plans, going on a small rant about that remark. It left her just blinking, even if AJ was speaking gentle it was fussing all the same. Like some old mother mare fussing at her colt for being stuped but trying to be nice about it. It was weird. “I made no remark about being isolated, I just want to explore something that may be good for me. To find myself, my real self and learn to love what I am and not worry about…” She sighs and shakes her head. “Later, we can talk later. Plenty wanting apples and not here to see us fuss like your my mother.” She says with a roll of her eyes before nuzzling in to her sadeel bags to grab sack of coins.

 

Plopping it on counter she looked back at AJ, eyeing her up before talking. “If you must kiss me… fine. But on the cheek. Plase, all I ask is that you respect my boundaries on this.” She says pushing ten bits over. “I want two bushels… so, two kisses on the cheek? Can use some more apples on the road when I head out in the morning.” She added explaining why she wanted two, it was nothing fancy or trying to mess with AJ. She just needed some food for the road and may as well buy it from AJ.

Applejack saw the ten bits on the counter and had to suppress some excitement. Why, two bushels meant twice the health-helpin', day-makin', and smile-inducing delivery of apples to one Tempest and that could only mean the good and best things in life were aligning behind her Shadowed mind. She swept the ten bits up and hunkered down again, collecting for Tempest another full bushel. A more eclectic collection of apple varieties this time to give her the required spice in her life. Well, not spice. Apples. If the apples were tasting spicy then something was deeply, deeply wrong. After she got the second bushel, she heaved it on top of the counter and pushed it over to take its place next to its sister. “Two bushels yer payin' for, two bushels yer receivin'!” Applejack exclaimed happily, noted Tempest's second gift was now quite necessary.

The unicorn had requested the kisses be placed on on her cheeks which suited Applejack just fine. She doubted it would go well if the kisses were placed on the lips anyway. She was liable to get bit. Tempest seemed the type to bite when being affectionate. “No problem there, Tempest,” Applejack said with a chuckle. She then leaned over and gave her Tempest two kisses, one on each cheek, one a little wetter than the other as she didn't cup the face or pull Tempest in. That'd make her feel uncomfortable and an uncomfortable Tempest Shadow was liable to suplex a mare on top of her own stand. “There ya go, Tempest. Hope yer gonna enjoy them apples! They're a wonderful crop this year. Ah reckon whether yer in for a treat, baking, or just good ol' fashioned home décor and aromra yer on tha docket! Y'all have a good one now, ya hear?” She said as Tempest took her apples and left.

Another satisfied customer. Applejack took another swig of water and was ready for the next. “Come on up!”

Stellar Drift had heard about the event at Sweet Apple Acres. He was in Ponyville to visit his friend Compass Rose. She needed some more fruit, and apples were the last item on the list. He knew that if he'd come earlier, he'd have been socially obligated to participate in this kissing booth idea. He wasn't too keen on the concept of kissing a complete stranger, so he had waited until he was sure all the 100 kisses had been taken. As the sun began to lower in the sky, he figured he'd waited long enough. "No offence, Miss Applejack" he said to himself "but I'm just not interested in kisses. Apples, yes. Kisses, not so much." He made his way up the trail to the farm, thinking about what little he knew about Applejack. He knew she was one of the friends of Princess Twilight who helped save Equestria multiple times. That was impressive and respectable. He knew she was a farmpony (he only learned today through hearing of this event) which tells him she's probably hardworking. Another respectable trait. He'd also heard she was known for being the most honest pony around. Honesty is a very important trait, he thought to himself.

He walked up the road, finally finding himself approaching the booth. "Oh, horsefeathers" he complained to himself "I thought she'd be done, by now." welp, he thought to himself, no turning back, now. He decided he'd better just get it over with. I mean at least it's somepony who he has respect for. He knew she'd probably respect his wish not to participate if he asked, but he didn't want to be rude.

 

He sheepishly walked up to the booth "So... you must be Applejack." he started, trying his best to be casual. He wasn't very good at small talk. "I heard there were lots of apples that needed to be sold." he dug his hoof in the ground for a moment, not sure what he should say or do "So, um... do you have any, um..." he pulled out the list he'd been given by his friend "Ambrosia?" he read carefully "Yeah, Ambrosia apples. My friend really likes the sweet fruits, and she says they're the sweetest."

The scarred unicorn pony had received her apples and mandatory kisses. And when she started to turn away, the hippogriff began to step up with her wagon behind her to be the next customer in line, her eyes closed as she gleefully trotted up to Applejack. But, right as she approached the apple stand a light grey pegasus walked in front of her and started talking to Applejack with no hesitation. Although the pony seemed cordial with Applejack, he also appeared overly nervous. Silverstream was just confused as to where he came from, as she was sure she was next after tempered unicorn. She scratched her head as she thought out loud. "Um, I'm confused. Was he ahead of me this whole time?" She honestly didn't know, and was unsure how to proceed. The line she was in wasn't all that long, but she had been waiting at least five minutes for the chance to dumb Ponyville's token fruit into her wagon.

Why, look at the nervous stallion who came up to the stand. You didn't see ponies with glasses all that commonly in these parts. When Applejack was a youngin' she had a brief run-in with a disease that gave her some eye problems. She wore these thick rims and could swear it did more harm than good for her. But she figured that if you needed it everyday and your family wasn't doing it for a few weeks to save your eyes or somesuch than they'd spend a fair bit more on it than hers had. He also seemed rather shy, just like a lot of the stallions she saw today. At least he had a good idea when it came to what sort of apples he wanted. Ambrosia was one of the less popular types 'round these parts but she didn't skimp when it came to the proper supply of them today.

Of course there was a bit of a problem with that. He had cut the whole line! Judging by his nervousness, Applejack figured that it wasn't a case of intentional mischief as much as it was him being slightly overwhelmed. She wasn't alone in thinking this was out of place as Silverstream seemed confused.
“Ambrosia? Well, you bet yer tail Ah'll have a big ol' bushel ready for ya when you come up. But, and Ah'm sorry 'bout this fella, but there is a line and ya did just cut in front of it!” She said with a chuckle. “When you come back up in tha line Ah'll even throw in a few extra Ambrosias, on yer account,” She winked with a smile.

Which brought her back to Silverstream, a Hippogriff who didn't know the concept of being tongued tied any better than a fish knew the concept of the sun. She was effervescent and excitable and that seemed to draw in creatures from all walks of life. She was the friendly glue that held their best students together, and everypony knew that in Equestria all good glue was made from apples!
“An' here we go, just you an' Ah, Silverstream. What brings you ta mah neck of tha woods this fine day?” Applejack asked inquisitively, playing dumb, It was fun sometimes.
