Brony Pet Peeves?

QuickLime

Recommended Posts

well mine are:

  • "bronies just want attention"

-I really get annoyed when people say that

  • Quoting EVERY SINGLE THING in the show, and not even knowing who said it

  • "mlp is just dumb, im not watching it, i saw the first two episodes and i hated it"-

ok i admit, the first two episodes were a LITTLE cheesy, but still good, the thing here is, what is it with people and feeling like they have to watch the first episode of every show they watch? Mlp got better every episode, and reached its peak around episode 18 or 19, but either way, we all have different episodes that instantly caught our attention, its not always the first one (mine was party of one, go figure -3-)

  • "Bronies are just desperate nerds"

Ok, Bill Clinton, one of the U.S.A.'s best presidents, is a nerd?

and the typical parent question

  • "Son, if you're gay, let me know/I don't want you mingling with those pedophiles/Son, My Little Pony isn't going to help you get a girlfriend or get along with your little sister/ Being popular/unique isn't important son.

hey dad/mom

Remember when you were talking about those undergound 80's music groups? i feel the same way when you talk about that

but to top it all

  • -Bully response: "Hey nerd, whats that you got in your locker? Aww its a little pony, does the little baby want to comb its hair? How about a tea party?" (followed by me digging in the trash trying to find my ceramic fluttershy, but don't worry, i managed to show him that bronies aren't all "mushy" a few minutes later)
  • -Mean Girl response: "My Little Pony? I want a tough guy, not someone that wants to 'love and tolerate' all the time, and about that shirt, it looks horrible on you" (these are moments where i wish i had the ability to zip peoples mouths whenever i wanted

but most importantly, why do people have to shun you just because of liking the show?

today in class, there was this one kid who kept making a bunch of jokes about mlp, but in a bad way.... it annoyed me, and i don't see the point.

Then i told him that what if i started bashing on his love of football? All he did was shove me into my chair, and keep making jokes about mlp

.... sadly not everyone believes in kindness and comprehension..

That almost seems reasonable to me. It is fair to judge a show by the pilot. If you hate the first two episodes, are the slice of life episodes going to sway your opinion? They might if you were on the fence after the first two...

I have to agree with this, and it's unfortunate because I don't think the pilot really does the rest of the season justice. Don't get me wrong; I think the pilot was fantastic -- but for someone coming in to FiM fresh? It doesn't introduce a lot of the magical osmotic "X" factor that makes the cartoon so addictive that episodes later in the season do have. Chemistry between the characters and interesting slice-of-life type stories would be two big hooks, rather than introduction-then-go-on-magical-quest.

This is unfortunately true. However, I have to say, I don't always believe it is fair to judge a show on its pilot. Most shows use the pilot to introduce the characters and set up the story. Episodic shows don't always do this (they do if there is an overarching story like in Samurai Jack). They set up the characters and that is about it. MLP:FiM does exactly that, in fact, if you think about it, the THIRD episode introduced the overarching theme of the first season, the Grand Galloping Gala, and even then there were very few (4?) episodes that dealt with it. The rest were slice of life type situations and themed episodes. And the third episode is the first episode that, in my opinion, showed you what you were getting yourself into. Every show is different, and I do try to not limit myself to just the first story line of the series, I would have missed out on so many great series if I had done that.

It's MANEHATTAN not MANEHATTEN

Just as it is Manhattan and not Manhatten.

Luckily I have never seen that... Coming from NYC that is just unacceptable.

1. People who assume that I think RD is lesbian because she's a tomboy with rainbows. I don't. I've built my opinion on quite a few little moments in the show where Rainbow Dash acts in a way that I think indicates that she feels some attraction to another female pony. I don't like it when people lecture me about falling for stereotypes about homosexuals, since I'm one of the last people who would ever do something like that.

5. People who post NSFW pony pictures in places where a kid might see them. I can understand that thanks to rule 34 there are people who like that, but it's a CHILDREN'S TV SHOW! Don't make graphic images that show up even when google safe-search is on! What turns you on is none of my business, and let's keep it that way! If you want to draw stuff like that, feel free. I might even look at some of it. Just don't put it in a place where any little kids who like the show might stumble across it. How many parents are gonna say no when their kid asks to look up a picture of Applejack? None, because inappropriate pictures shouldn't show up there. And yet they do.

#1: I too have based my thoughts that Rainbow Dash is a lesbian on times when she's shown attraction to other female ponies in the show, not because of the stereotypes. While stereotypes exist for a reason, there is no need to zoom in and point them out. I applaud you on this.

#2: Ugh. Don't even get me started on Rule 34. It doesn't even matter what you type into Google, there will ALWAYS be some kind of weird porn or hentai. And seriously, the internet is so completely covered in smut, it's a wonder I can do anything at all without running into sick stuff. I always have safe-search on, because if I so much as type in the name Rarity I will see dusgusting, perverted things. What if I was a 5-year-old looking up my favorite pony? I might run into things that would scar my impressionable little brain. Thats not to say I don't think sex and the like should be open topics, but seeing pony-porn everywhere is revolting.

Also, trying to add non-canon places that are huge cities/countries/geographic region when there are plenty of tiny towns to be created, and even beyond that little or no detail filled in for some of the cities that ALREADY exist. Come on people, do you know how much mileage you can get out of just describing your city block? It just smacks of wanting to be first on the slide. But sometimes first adopters should be thinking of how their planning affects the rest of the RPs that will happen in the area.

Unfortunately, it's a terrible pilot. I watched it on The Hub for its premier (I was so excited about the show coming out!), and it just made me groan. More lame kids stuff, right? WRONG. It got good RIGHT after the pilot! From this experience I have learned not to jude by a pilot, but its still frustrating that it's such a bad pilot...

blarg, I actually do have a pet peeve now that I think about it

I hate it when people make pony generator ponies with ugly colours, or when they put them in ugly poses D: or when people use the directly exported image as a user picture instead of cropping all the white space out. every time I see that, I wish I had the time to draw them a decent picture of their poor pony (º∩º)

Las Pegasus was confirmed to be an analogue of Las Vegas, not Los Angeles. It was on the writer's twitter that I'm too lazy to dig up at the moment.

I posted a picture of his comment on this board somewhere. Too lazy to find it. I REALLY want to see an Las Pegasus episode now. Imagine the music we'd get. Imagine the cameos. :blah:

The point of a pilot is to gain your interest. The writers may or may not succeed in that, but it isn't the viewer's fault if the pilot fails to grab them. It is irrelevant to me that the pilot is not a representative episode. It is the episode that they chose to be the first exposure for most people. Anyone who watches those 44 minutes with an open mind and still rejects the show has my complete respect.

I'm an explorer. I love finding new cool things. I have spent probably hundreds of hours wading through bad webcomics looking for a diamond in the rough. This experience has taught me what kinds of things to look for, and how to rapidly judge comics effectively. When I find a comic with bad art, only 10 comics, that hasn't been updated in a year, and a lame story, I don't have to read much of it to know it is time to move on. But if a couple of the elements are promising, I will spend a little more time checking it out. The pilot does many things right, and even if you are not thrilled with some of the elements, perhaps a few of them were interesting enough to move you on to the next episode? That is all that matters really.

I didn't HATE the pilot. It wasn't very good at all, and I disliked it. But I didn't hate it, and I saw some character potential. Besides, Fluttershy was always cute <3

I totally agree with that assessment. I just don't personally agree that it is always fair to judge a show on its pilot due to personal experience. If someone watched the pilot to a show, including my little pony friendship is magic, and decided they didn't like it, I would respect their decision if it was firm. If they at all seemed on the fence, they should continue with at least one or two more episodes.

With respect, the purpose of a pilot episode is to impress corporate executives.

Well sure, but it is unfair to say that that is the only purpose.

If you were to take a scientific approach, you would probably want to take a random sampling of episodes.

How is that the scientific approach? That seems like a terrible idea. I don't hit the random button (as a method of determining if a webcomic is good) when they exist on the webcomics because there would be no context for it. I start by looking at the beginning, and glancing at the end to see the evolution. Something in the middle won't tell me much.

That is literally the ugliest pony I've ever seen. Although, his special talent IS trolling...

Ah shucks! Yer making me blush! :smug:

While I didn't think the pilot was the greatest thing EVAR, I did enjoy it, and it did its job. Got me hooked on the show. And after re-watching it a few times later, it's actually rather grown on me.

I actually loved the pilot... but then I'm a fan of Magical Girl series, which is what I was kinda expecting... though I agree it's not an acurate representation of the series as a whole...
