okay so just as i thought this Episode was amazing and song-a-song-riffic~!!! and really portrayed in the best light and how i've always wanted her depth of Character to meet. and this did it in all spades~

this is going to be amazing~ i love it when she is written well as a Character like in a friend in deed, to many pinkie pies or apple pie

That was a lot of fun. I am loving the inclusion of more songs this season.

As befitting an appearance by "Weird Al" Yankovic there is an abundance of polka. They really took advantage of having Yankovic by having him sing throughout the episode; other animated guest appearances I've seen him on (such as Transformers Animated and Adventure Time) rarely have him sing anything.

Once again, another gift is given at the end with a rainbow shine to it. I imagine these are the keys to that harmony box.

Rainbow moved into Ponyville on her birthday, so her birthdays are extra special to her.

I thought this episode was quite a treat. Pinkie hasn't had much focus this season, so it's great to see her in full Pinkie Pie mode. Lots of great songs, a great new character, and and a pretty good message highlighted this episode. I think it's interesting that this episode got leaked so early.

An easy 10/10!

Okay, so I was really hyped for this one going into it and yeah... gotta say it lived up even to my rather high expectations. Probably one of my favorites of the season so far.

've been a huge fan of Weird Al for a long time now. Growing up, I started to learn a lot about popular music just from my interest in his stuff and I've seen him multiple times in concert. I knew he is the sort of celebrity who likes to make guest appearances on a variety of programs, and I also knew he had been asked to be on the show before, but actually hearing he'd be on Pony really just came as a wonderful surprise and got me quite excited. I've been eagerly looking forward to this one since the moment I heard it was happening. As it turned out, it was a lot of fun.

Cheese Sandwich was an enjoyable character. I think they did a good job of infusing Weird Al's humor and weirdness into the character in how he was written and especially how he was animated. it was all silly fun, from the Clint Eastwood homage to the rubber chicken. I also definitely love how they got their use out of Al himself with all of the singing. It was just a fun thing to see.

As a Pinkie episode, it was pretty good too. It was her rainbow key power thing episode, so it needed to be, I suppose. Weird Al or no, this might actually be one of my favorite Pinkie episodes in a long time. She sang a lot, which just made it awesome, but even in the quieter moments she was affecting. They had Weird Al in the episode, and yet I wasn't at all disappointed with the moments that his character wasn't on screen for. It all just held up pretty well. Of course, a with Magical Mystery Cure, the problem with a musical episode is that in needing so much time to put toward the songs, it can get a little rushed. That was the biggest fault of this episode. I could sort of feel them squeezing for time in the final few minutes.Still, it all pretty much worked in my opinion and I think they succeeded in telling a fun story.

Of course, most of the fun was in the new songs. There were a full six of them. To touch briefly on each:

Pinkie the Party Planner - If Pinkie didn't already have an anthem, this could have done the trick. Seriously nice Pinkie song, though the parts with the crowd might have made it for me. And, oh my god, Diamond Tiara sang. Yes. Yes. Yes. More of this please. It is glorious. She needs a full song of her own like immediately. :D

The Super Duper Party Pony - Cheese Sandwich's introductory song was a solid offering. It got better as it went along. Upbeat, catchy and with a lot of fun visuals. It did a great job of setting up the character and the conflict for the episode.

Pinkie's Lament - This one was fun just because it was so different from what we usually get from Pinkie songs. I actually wouldn't have been able to picture what Pinkie singing a sad song would sound like before this. it sounded pretty nice, as it turned out. It's not lyrically perfect, and the change of mood from sad to triumphant comes across as just a little quick, but it was still pretty effective, I think. I liked hearing Shannon Chan Kent show off this side of her range.

The Goof Off - The silly little core sequence of the episode in my opinion. This was just a ton of fun, especially as a fan of Al as it was pretty much a send up of one of his polka medleys. The escalating back and forth was really neat to see. The live action cutaways were of course the biggest laughs. The dancing rubber chicken was hilarious and silly and I had no idea how Pinkie was going to top it, but then Gummy just floored me. It was also pretty cool to hear music borrowed from Weird Al's actual polkas. It just gave it a genuine flair, as did him actually taking lyrics from the Smile Song and giving them the Weird Al polka treatment. I just wish it was longer.

Cheese Confesses - This one wasn't as silly or immediate as Al's other songs, but it was one of the better moments in my opinion. I'm kind of glad they gave him a somewhat more serious song. He does it well. Lyrically strong, good melody and the flashback sequence was pretty fun too. Love seeing filly Cheerilee again and I believe I saw filly Lyra, Bon Bon and Derpy at one moment as well.

Make a Wish - the shortest song was also the least memorable. Essentially it was Love is in Bloom Pinkie Pie version, except with even less to it lyrically. Not terrible, by any means, but not something I'll be replaying a lot like the others. It was kind of worth it alone for that single second of Rarity, Twi and Applejack doing some kind of idol-ish dance on the stage (not to mention the couple second of Rainbow Dash choosing to enjoy her party with Rarity <3) and I guess they couldn't have just not shown any of Dash's party. Still, if I have to compare it to the rest of the music in the episode it comes up unfortunately short.

But yeah, I loved most all of the songs. Their welcome additions to the stable of great pony music this season and the episode ranks right up there with my favorites so far.

Pinkie Pie often gets Flanderized when she isn't the focus and is nothing more then "Omg so random" which isn't really a good use of her character The first season she was often out there but she would have a reason for acting a certain way and I enjoy it when the writers remember this

Wow. Just wow. I.....I.....I can't believe it!

I've been listening to Troy Cassar-Daley's Born to Survive well before the episode went to air due to the similarities between the song and this episode and I have to say that they have hit the mark with this.

To quote from my tweet from this morning:

"I can safely say this right now, this episode was.....was....unbelievable! The best of #MLPSeason4 so far! Enough said!"

Now for those who haven't seen the episode just yet, I have spoilered my thoughts on the episode below out of respect:

What can I say? I thought the debut episode for this season or Scootaloo's episode was the major highlight of the series for me, but despite the events leading up to the episode officially airing I can safely say that this episode delivered on it's hype and anticipation promise from start to finish!

The main highlights of the episode for me were not only about Weird Al's guest appearance as Cheese Sandwich, but also Pinkie Pie and the struggles she had to go through to try and retain her status as the premier party pony and in the process, learns a valuable lesson or two along the way.

Emotion wise, if you forgot to bring a box of Kleenex before the episode aired then you might just want some tissues on hand. Pinkie Pie was put through an emotional roller coaster ride and some of the scenes actually got me a bit choked up, especially the musical number (Pinkie's Lament) where Pinkie Pie was on the edge of defeat and just about to throw in the towel. I had a bit of a bad day before the episode aired and I was on the verge of tears, so once this song came up.....

"I am openly weeping my eyes out here! No joke! I knew it! It had to be a Pinkie Pie musical number to start the waterworks!"

Apart from that, there isn't much left to say about this episode.

I also have written my full thoughts on the episode itself on my blog, which can be viewed here.

Ummm, I don't like this episode...

I love it! I have a couple gripes though. For one thing, Dash doesn't really seem like the element of loyalty here, which kinda defeated the purpose of Rainbow Falls.

My other gripe is a minor one but the live action scenes just sucked me out of the show for a good thirty seconds at least. I know it was a goof off but I found it pretty awkward.

As for the good points. I love episodes where Pinkie Pie is more than just randomness fuel. My favorite part is Pinkie's Lament. It was a great song coupled with powerful scenes. Seeing her try new jobs and putting away all her party gear got me a little teary eyed. And the vocals were top notch. Both from Cheese Sandwhich and Pinkie Pie. (Is it just me, or are the writers trying to get a shipsplosion out of these two? They were adorable together!)

I'm also so glade this episode was written so well. The writers could have just relied on Weird Al's appearance but they instead made an episode that could have been amazing without him. Not that I would ever want Weird Al out of MLP.

Speaking of Cheese. I was happy when he didn't turn out to be a shallow antagonist. That was great. And the rubber chicken key! Awesome.

I'd give this episode a 9/10

And chocolate fountain Derpy is best Derpy.

Just because she's not loyal ALL the time doesn't mean she doesn't embody her element, I mean Rarity isn't generous all the time, and she can still be loyal to someone without ever liking someone else.

Anyone else notice all the regular background characters as fillies in Cheese Sandwich's "true" backstory montage? We got to see the following ponies as fillies:

  • Pinkie Pie
  • Cheerilee
  • Lyra
  • Bon Bon (with glasses!)
  • Flitter
  • Cloudchaser
  • Derpy
  • Colgate (Minuette)

Oddly enough, Berry Punch was an adult.

I was never a big fan of Weird Al but after seeing this, I might actually give him a go. I'm also really glad they used him in the way they did, rather than a short guest appearance as if to say "Yeah! We had Weird Al!".

I also loved the music, especially the goof off part (Still dying to know what Pinkie is singing at the end though, you know, the spanish/mexican part). The little filly versions of the background ponies and the amounts of derpy were also a nice touch to the episode.

However, the best of all these things was certainly in the end where Twilight, Rarity <3 and Applejack did that little performance. Not sure why I like it so much, but I do.

The Spanish language song Pinkie sang is a traditional song sang when breaking open a piñata, I believe.

And yeah. Really wish we saw more of the dance on the stage. That was amazing adorable.

I'd give this episode a 4.75 out of 5. I'd give the episode a 5, but I tend to save that rating for the more "important" episodes where bad guys show up. But yeah, this episode ruled! :D

I've been so far behind on episodes, but I finally got the chance to catch up in time for this one!

I'm glad I did.

To be honest, I was extremely skeptical of Weird Al being in this episode. I guess a little part of me was worried that they'd fit him in awkwardly, or that he's absolutely dominate the story. That definitely wasn't the case! Cheese Sandwich was an endearing character, and extremely personable. Enough so that I found it hard to dislike him even when Pinkie Pie was dealing with him as an antagonist. The big reveal that she inspired him to become a party pony was a nice tie into everything, and certainly rounded off his character so that he wasn't just there to take over her role.

I felt like Pinkie Pie illustrated some strong emotions. Which is what I -like- about the Pinkie Pie episodes. It seems like she always exhibits the biggest, strongest range of emotions possible in her episodes. Like in Party of One, where she's angry, sad, happy, skeptical, frustrated, and overwhelmed allll in the same episode? It's always a refreshing breath of air when a little serious emotion creeps in. I was on the edge of my seat when she was looking over the photos of past parties she's done (I was especially glad they referenced her family again).

Man, Season 4 has been making it difficult for me to view things analytically. I haven't disliked an episode yet (although I felt like the opening episodes could have used a little booster). It's definitely good to see strong, character-driven narratives.

Wow... Just... Wow... They keep getting better and better!

Like most of the people above, I'm impressed with how much singing Wierd Al did, not to mention how much VA he did, I was expecting something along the lines of flim and flam's episode with Al playing the quiet brother who sang part of a song and didnt speak much.

Rough opening for me though, didnt really like the sudden contrast in Cheese's character, makes him feel very... bi-polar? not sure...

Loved the episode though, it was one huge musical with a half-dozen songs,

it was also nice to see the photos of the earlier episodes during pinkie's lament, I always squee over continuity porn ^_^

But this did some damage to my RD headcanon... ugh... still, well worth it.

Also, unless I miscounted, Dash is 21??? I thought one of the writers said she was 16!?

May post more later, little fuzzy-headed after that awesome episode...

That's true. After thinking about it, it wasn't really the idea of her picking Cheese's party over Pinkie's as much as how it happened. Of course Dash being easily lured in by awesome things was also established before so it makes more sense than I originally thought.

Also, unless I miscounted, Dash is 21??? I thought one of the writers said she was 16!?

I'm wondering if it was deliberate or just a random number of candles. I'm pretty sure it's the former, though. Never heard of a writer giving Dash's age before. :!:

For those who missed it, here is the shot that had the most background characters as fillies:

Cheese_in_the_middle_of_a_party_S4E12.png

What was interesting is there was a good mix of them as blank flanks and fillies who manage to get their cutie marks already:

Blank Flanks: Cheerilee, Derpy, Flitter, Cloudchaser.

Cutie Marks: Bon Bon, Lyra, Colgate (Minuette), Pinkie Pie.

Twinkleshine and Berry Punch (Berryshine) are adults. Not sure if on purpose or not. Another note is Bon Bon wore glasses and Colgate had braces.

Only thing that would have been more adorable would have been filly Applejack and Rarity, since it was established they grew up in Ponyville.

640px-Filly_Pinkie_Pie_juggling_rubber_chickens_S4E12.png

They also brought back Mjolnir pony and her cute wrench cutie mark unicorn friend.
